Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open July 25th, and apps are open August 1st.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: WORKING TITLE
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect chance to swarm around you and chow down. This time, the Door has brought in a few Working Joes, from the Alien: Isolation video game series.

Once simply androids meant for mundane jobs, working Joes have had their programming altered to isolate and eliminate threats onboard their ship- which they now believe to be Hadriel. Super strong, yet slow and plodding, an android may ask you for identification before throttling you when you don't have the right answer. They are quite sturdy and difficult to destroy without the right tools. Have fun!]

H O P E

SCENARIO TWO: BEAUTIFICATION DUTY
[The city has always looked a little drab, but now with some tools from Hope, it's up to you guys to spruce it up a bit! Your character will find themselves in a shop filled with various paints, home improvement tools, window stickers, streamers, and various other items and tools used to improve the appearance of the neighborhood.

You're encouraged to add your own little flair to the project in order to improve living standards and make Hope the happiest god in the pantheon. So, what will you do? Paint a mural? Sweep up some rubble? Install a skylight! The cave is your oyster.

This is a mini version of our Extinction v2 event this month!]

SCENARIO THREE: CRY ME A RIVER
[When you wake up in the morning, something feels... off. It feels like you just watched 20 ASPCA commercials in a row and then topped it all off with the first ten minutes of Up. You're beaten down, depressed, upset by all the horrific acts and trauma in the world, and it's enough to make you want to cry.

Turn on the waterworks, because Hadriel is about to have a shortage of tissues and everyone's getting dehydrated. You might run into your neighbor crying while you're scavenging for food, or you might just find that one whole asshole in the entire movie who isn't affected.

Either way, it's time to get some hugs, some kleenex, and maybe a little bit of chocolate. Happy... crying?]

[Bang! Bangbangbangbangbang! A pistol shot or two might not do much against these androids, but a nice sustained burst from an assault rifle definitely does a decent job of sending the second one juddering to the ground, leaking weird white robot fluids.

Sato and his delighted smile come meandering around the corner of a storefront, absolutely armed to the gills with military gear and, rather notably, not lowering the barrel in the least. Now that the android is down, it's pointed at Kaneki instead.]

Oh, why hello there. Looks like you ran into a bit of trouble.

What a great question Kaneki won't ask because that's not the sort of thing to ask someone who just saved you (though it's very questionable if a robot like that could actually harm a ghoul). ]

Ah thank- [ thank you??? Please don't point the gun at him???

Kaneki gives a step back, wary because of the gun. Again, it wouldn't harm a ghoul but Kaneki still holds himself as human and thus that sort of thing still freak him out ] They suddenly jumped me... [ slowly rising his arms now because that's what people are meant to do when someone points a gun at them, right ? ]

[Hands up? Ah, how boring. The muzzle drops, although not too much in case of more entertaining targets appearing on the scene. Sato's smile fades off, rather eerily fast.]

Ah, my apologies, no need for that. Please, you can put you hands down. You just can't be too careful, especially out here on your own with all these creatures on the loose. I've heard some people talking about monsters deeper in the caverns too. My, what a terrible world we've all come to, isn't it?

[ kaneki is totally boring. There is nothing interesting about him, nope, nope.

Sato probably never saw someone so relieved to see a gun being dropped - or he probably did, knowing his track record. In any case, kaneki IS quite relieved and ready to step forward, so glad at least this person doesn't want him dead (why does everyone want him dead???) ]

Thank you! [ repeating ourselves, aren't we? Kaneki's hands of course drop right away and he looks back at the robots who are getting up. At least they are slow ] What do you mean, monsters? Like these robots?

[ They should probably move as they speak, so Kaneki looks around, to find somewhere to go. Running seems like it might be a good option too, since the robots are slow, so Kaneki points to a deserted street] That way...!

Not rightly sure, myself. I can't say I've had time to get properly adjusted yet, or heard more than a word or two about it.

[Sato's in no real rush, moving deliberately rather than quickly, trailing behind if Kaneki's the kind to run on ahead]

Are you sure you know where you're going?

[ when the word "monsters" is thrown around, all Kaneki can think of are ghouls. But the robots might fit that description too - in a way, he hopes so? Not that all ghouls are bad, but his experience with them hasn't been entirely positive.

At least he doesn't think Sato is one: he has guns, after all. Ghouls use their kagunes as weapons since they are much stronger than guns.

All of these are issues to think about later. Right now, Kaneki wants to gain as much distance as possible from the Working Joes. he glances at the man as he continues to walk, to answer ] I don't know, I just arrived.

but this area doesn't seem to have those things. [ makes sense. Plus, they didn't go down with bullets, so it's not like they know how to kill them and Kaneki isn't about to try using his kagune. He probably should, though-

just around the corner, another one pops up and Kaneki's response to that is to suddenly kick its knee enough to break. Please don't startle a ghoul. ]

[Sato helps by firing another few rounds. The thing burbles a bit about 'dangerous firearms' but isn't going anywhere, at least. On the downside, Sato still seems relatively unconcerned -- like he's off for a light walk in the park, rather than being loaded down like an ex-marine (accurate) out hunting killer androids.]

My, whoever built these things sure made them to last.

[Just ignore the feeling of much more intense scrutiny. It takes some heavy artillery to down these things and this kid breaks its knee with a kick?]

Why don't we find one of these buildings to hole up in for a while? They seem to be mostly abandoned. Then we can compare notes and try to figure out what's the best course of action to take from here on out. It isn't safe to be out here alone.

[For good measure, he fires a few more rounds into the fallen android, which finally fizzles out, red eyes fading.

Really, the more the merrier. Firing off all those shots could very well draw a lot more attention, and with how slow-moving they are, things need to be spiced up a bit. Hopefully they'll be milling in the streets by the time he finishes a chat with the kid.]

[ the shots get a jerk out of kaneki, who quickly steps out of the way and tries covering his ears, which comes only too late because his ears are already ringing.

He looks back at the man once again and quickly nods to answer him ] We need to make sure they aren't inside the building though. [ so it's only smart to choose a smaller house, something they can check out fast. Kaneki uncovered eye looks around the place, heart racing fast from the fear and panic, but as Sato shoots again and the Joe stops moving completely, his attention is turned to the thing ]

... it stopped. [ he dares to approach just a bit ] The head could be a soft spot... [ at least they know these things aren't indestructible and can be stopped ]

Could be, could be.

[Sato heads inside, checking those corners with the assault rifle with practised, unconcerned ease. Quite conversationally, he adds:]

You know, in the original Doom, there was no such thing as a headshot? It's a pretty recent invention that really only got popular after Goldeneye. Do you like video games at all... ah I'm sorry, I don't think I caught your name.

Er- I guess, I don't play much- [ WAIT IS HE TALKING ABOUT GAMES

Kaneki will just follow the man, listening to him without commenting on how inappropriate it is to be talking about games while you are running for your life. it's not like he can criticize the guy carrying a gun anyway. ]

I'm Kaneki- Ken Kaneki. And you?

[What's with these kids that don't play video games? Disappointing. Honestly, what's the world coming to.]

Ahh, that's too bad.

[Satisfied that the building is cleared out, Sato finds a dusty old chair out of the windows' line of sight and settles down, resting the rifle up against the end table.]

You can call me Sato. Now let me see here... I'm guessing you don't have much of a game plan yet, do you? Being brought to a strange new place, operating under its own set of rules... a bit scary, isn't it.

[There's that reassuring grandfatherly smile again. Almost easy to forget he was grinning like a maniac when he first showed up.]

[ he has other things in mind! Like having a terrible awful live.

kaneki waits for the man to do his reccon, and when it seems everything is safe, he approaches the window to look outside. he still isn't sure about all of those weird robots, of course, or this place. Maybe he is just dreaming, hallucinating? No way all of this is real-

oh the man is talking.

kaneki turns to him, to pay him full attention. Sato-san seems like a... nice person even if he's armed to the teeth and was sort of creepy while shooting those robots. And kaneki nods softly, almost shyly ]

i'm not sure what to make out of all of this, to be honest. It all sounds so surreal...

You seem like you know exactly what you are doing, Sato-san.

[Sato chuckles, adjusting the tilt of his hunting cap.]

Unfortunately, I'm still making it up as I go. I'm just willing to play along, is all. It's quite the change of pace, compared to where I'm from.

How about you, Kaneki? I understand all sorts brought in here, with all manner of strange powers and so on. [Oh yes, he's already been on his phone, scoping out the network. And don't think he forgot seeing that kick that broke an android's leg. He's perceptive for a guy that never opens his eyes fully.] But you seem like a nice young man.

Oh- there is nothing like this in my world. Robots don't try to kill people. [ robots aren't even that advanced. They are roombas. Kaneki looks around, looking at the house ] Even the buildings are different, and there are no strange "Gods" bringing people in...

[ kaneki glances back at Sato ] I'm pretty normal. I don't know why am i even here. [ because your life is awful, that's why. ~~also don't lie to your elders young man~~ ]

Pretty normal, huh. Can't really say the same for myself, but it isn't a bad thing to be different from everyone else.

[Sato says encouragingly, leaning slightly backwards to have a peek out the back window. He's not really sure how much he can coax out of the kid, but he's definitely got a feeling that he isn't going to be a lot of fun. Unlikely to play along nicely with plans.

But that's fine, since it won't be too long before the party can get started. They're coming all right, drawn towards the sound of his earlier gunfire. There's only a couple androids that he can see, moving purposefully towards the building, but there's sure to be more out of view.]

Eh? What do you mean?

[ well, someone carrying that amount of guns and shooting so happily probably ins't very normal, but they are talking about people "with all manner of strange powers ", like Sato said.

But Kaneki can ear the androids aproaching, quite well in fact, including one that is limping and dripping some weird fluids from its broken knee.

kaneki rushes to the window, his breathing quickening ] W-what do we do? [ what does kaneki do?? ]

I don't suppose 'Ajin' means anything to you? No, I see. Well... put it this way, I just can't seem to stay dead for very long.

[All delivered in his calm and friendly voice, almost jovially apologetic for the fact he's immortal. He tips the chair forward again and goes over to the window, patting Kaneki's shoulder. That smile of his just doesn't quite look right, not any more.]

It's not what are we going to do. It's what are you going to do? I do believe we're surrounded.

[ stay dead what?

Kaneki turns to Sato again, clearly confused. he has no idea what Ajin are neither what that means. ]

W-what?

[ WHAT.

You just saved him, the n locked him inside a house, and now you are going to abandon him? Taking all back about Sato looking like a nice person! ]

I-I don't know what to do, I'm not- [ he gestures ] an Ajin? [ what's that even! ]

Ah, now that is a problem, isn't it.

[It's kind of hard to tell if he's actually serious.]

Don't worry though, a strong young fellow like yourself, I'm sure you'll figure something out. Here, how about this.

[He unclips a sheathed machete from his belt and offers it. Mind you, his assault rifle is still resting up against the table, too.

He figures it could be pretty entertaining if Kaneki goes for it, or even just try to make a break for it and get through the slowly gathering crowd. See what he can do... or if he gets strangled to death instead, it doesn't much matter to Sato. He just hopes the kid doesn't give up entirely instead, thinking back to when the first met. Hands up... totally worthless. Maybe this will give him a kick in the seat of the pants.]

[ kaneki won't be reaching for the riffle. He doesn't know how to shoot and he isn't about to fight an old man for it when there are more pressing matters to worry about. ]

Y-you are serious? But a gun can't even do much damage...! [ much less a machete ]

[ what is happening? and why is it happening? What does this guy even want?!

Questions he can't answer because the Working Joes are already banging on the door and telling the two of them how hysterical they are being. And because Kaneki is starting to panic, he ends up grabbing the machete in the end.

Maybe he can use it to run through the robots and gain enough distance. or he can climb a building, yeah- it's not like these robots could, right? ]

Go get 'em, tiger.

[Despite being the one who put him in this situation, Sato at least sounds genuinely encouraging. Although who knows what that means any more. After patting the kid's shoulder again, he meanders back to the table, calm as can be, and pats down the pockets on his combat vest, checking for remaining ammo, then plops back down in the chair and picks up the rifle, just hanging out and waiting.

Not that it'll be long, since there's the sudden crash of glass as one of the windows breaks in another room.]

[ he isn't going to get anyone. he is just going to run forever until he somewhere safe without some crazy old man with guns and crazy murderous robots.

Kaneki watched the other who seems far too relaxed, and without having much time to say anything else, a working Joe tries to make its way inside the house. Startled, Kaneki steps back, but given they are so slow, maybe this can be a good thing: just get this one away from the window and use it to escape.

That could work. Maybe.

Kaneki looks back at Sato once again, somehow no longer expecting anything from him, before he rushes to grab a chair and breaks it on the android's head. With the brute strength Kaneki does that, it causes the robot to dive inside the house and fall flat on its face, hard.

Alright, nice going! ]

[Not expecting anything from Sato other than that very nice, very cheerfully empty smile is about right.

He's just taking his time, finally picks up the M4 carbine and squints down the barrel towards the door briefly before contemplating the one that's already faceplanted inside the building, watching it struggle back to its feet, red eyes gleaming in the dim interior.

The pounding on the door gets louder and there's the crack of the splintering wood. He gives it another minute at best and wait until they're right on top of him. A big ol' mob at point blank. Should use less ammo too, which, quite honestly might be a good idea when he's not sure how to get more here and they are definitely more resistant to improvised weapons.]
