Yes, there are people I treasure. They will make eternity bearable.

What about the world itself; its beauty?

It has been a long time since the world has touched me. Venice in the 15th century is the last time I felt such awe.

When was the last time you sat alone in a garden and watched the bees?

Bees? Why bees?

[strangelic]

There are so many different kinds, and they all have different ways, different lives. Some live alone, others live in vast colonies. There are some bees who live less than a week; they are created as warriors only, and guard the mouth of the hive against attackers.

Bees are beautiful, brightly colored and devoted. They dance. Their sounds are so happy. They make honey, of course. And without them, there would be no life at all.

I did not consider them to be so important before. Or interesting. Are they your favourite?

Yes. I like them very much.

If you spent a week or two watching them, I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

They live in the library.

Not at all. But we released them there, and they seem to find it livable.

How do they sustain themselves? They eat these alien books?

[strangelic]

We bring them flowers and fruits, and any sweet things we can find. Bees are very easy to please. It's unfortunate that these ones don't make honey, but they have some interesting habits, even so.

Would this 'we' welcome another companion to this ritual? I would like to see the appeal of this.

[strangelic]

I can't imagine why not. I'd like to show you the library.
