test drive meme #16
Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open January 24th, and apps are open February 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.
Two quick points here as well:1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!
Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R
SCENARIO ONE: THE CREEPY CRAWLIES
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.
Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something lurking in the shadows, waiting to impale you on its giant claws and crunch your bones between its mandibles. That's right, this time the Door is bringing you bugs from Starship Troopers, in all their giant and disgusting glory!
Bugs are, well, giant insects that come in all shapes and sizes, depending on the rank, and are way too tall or too heavy than they have any right to be. They can move quickly, most of them have the ability to fly, and their exo-skeletons means that it's difficult to really hurt them unless you've got some muscles on you. Or a really big boot, I guess.]
C O N F U S I O N
SCENARIO TWO: WHO'S THAT IN THE MIRROR?
[Something's lurking in the dark. Something that really wants to ruin your day by any means necessary- that includes preying on your darkest fears, or just, you know, simply killing you. But that's not a problem, right? You're big and tough! Except, so is this creature out to get you. And it knows all of your weaknesses and insecurities too because, well... it is you.
Doubles of characters will be flooding the city and attempting to ruin the originals lives by whatever means necessary. This generally involves killing the original and then impersonating them, but it can also mean killing people you love or just bringing up your awkward teenage years to traumatize you in front of all your new cool friends.
What can you do to stop it? Well, you could kill them first, that certainly won't require a few trips to therapy later! There's always locking them away, or maybe trying to befriend them because hey, who's better at ruining your life than you?
This is a mini version of our Dead Ringers event this month!]
T R A N Q U I L I T Y
SCENARIO THREE: CAN YOU JUST LIKE, CHILL FOR A SEC?
[Embrace tranquility! Or rather, get pulled, kicking and screaming into an event during which you magically have to find some chill, or else Tranquility will force chill upon you.
For this prompt, characters will find themselves in a state of sudden peace and calm, without much anger or meanness to go around. That guy you hate? Maybe you should give him a peace offering. The chick who stole your girlfriend? Maybe you should congratulate her! Everything is peaceful and everything is... sorta gray.
Don't get me wrong, it's nice to be able to relax, but we have an emotional spectrum for a reason. Pretty soon, the tranquility of this might turn into something a little creepy, even Stepfordish... but it's hard to really care when everything is so damn pleasant, right?]

Asgore Dreemurr | Undertale | i didn't mean for all of these to be depressing it just happened
[There are two Asgores standing here, facing each other. Only one is armed.
That one holds his trident loosely, apparently not ready to attack just yet. For now he's just watching, fixing the other with a steady stare. If they're being watched, neither of them seems aware of it; they may as well be alone.]
...you know, I do not think there is anything I can do to destroy your life that you have not already done. How pitiful.
No. I do not suppose there is. [He accepts the truth of that. Perhaps this double is meant to be somehow evil, but it is not saying anything he's not said to himself. Never aloud, of course. A King can't do things like that. But there are too many empty rooms in his house, too much silence. He spends most of his time with himself these days.
Now he's somewhere else, without even his duties. Strange as this is, it almost seems fitting to have this conversation.] What will you do, then?
[A small smile plays across the other's lips. He shifts the trident, angling it so that the points almost but not quite scrape the other's breastplate. He twitches, not quite flinching, just looking away.] We both know what you are asking. Say it. Or are you still too afraid to do even that much?
[3]
[Asgore is generally a calm person to begin with, both by nature and because...well, he's learned what even a moment of anger can do. He cannot allow himself to feel that way ever again. So perhaps, were he consciously aware of what had happened, he might even think it for the best.
He doesn't really seem terribly different on the outset; he's just brewing some tea. Normal stuff. But for the first time in a long time, he doesn't feel that hideous mass of guilt in his stomach. He is not disgusted with himself, not living with the ghosts of his regrets.
He doesn't feel much of anything at all, to be honest.]
2 THAT USERNAME I WEEP
Frisk should still be on bed rest, that much is true. Within the hour, their back aches more than it should; though it's their sides that are the worst, each bruise pulling and tugging in ways that make their breathing uncomfortable, make working harder. But they're done, just sitting around and doing nothing. They're done with that. The ways they can help are so painfully small, but at least...they can offer some assistance here and there, even if it's as small as taking care of a few less than tidy streets.
And then there's him.
Frisk doesn't need to ask. There's no double take, the words aren't surprising. They've seen him sad; sadder, and sadder still, watched him die and caused him to die, listened to him tell them that they remind him so much of a child with eyes full of hope, right before he-
So it doesn't take much thought for a broom to fall from their hands. The sound of a wooden handle striking the pavement echoes far too loudly, but they're already in position by the time it echoes. Pushing at that trident with no fear, as if the very touch of it isn't enough to cause their fingers to ache.]
Stop.
[You firmly tell Asgore to Stop FIGHTING.]
no subject
Frisk! [He grabs their shoulder and tugs them behind him, as flames start to light around the double's hands.] Frisk, run.
Apologies for my slow; just started a new job ;u;///
The only difference is this one doesn't seem so guilty. And that's fine, because they know he isn't real. The sudden pull on their shoulder has them tensing, blinking into folds of fabric. Cloak. It's a cloak.
He's just trying to keep them safe. They're not leaving.]
...Excuse me, mister not-Dreemurr.
no subject
The double smiles. It's not a particularly nice expression.]
Hello, human. Just hold still for a moment; this will be just like a visit to the -
[And that's about when Asgore summons his trident and, keeping the tines carefully pointed away from Frisk, smashes the blunt end into his double's face.]
no subject
It's not Asgore's fault they flinch. It's not; it's compulsive, at the sight of that trident being used. The sound of magical energy hitting flesh and bone, even if it wasn't human. This is the part where Frisk steps back, stays out of the way, and hopes for the best.
That isn't what happens. They can't do that.]
Hey. [An urgent tug on his pant leg. They look up at him, insistent.] Let's go.
[Stop FIGHTing.]
2. MOM HOLY FUCK
Lemme tell ya, the only thing more terrifying than seeing the king of all monsters driven to take forceful action is seeing two of 'em squaring off.
All things considered, it ain't real difficult to pick apart which of 'em is meant to be the fake here. Some of the doubles do a better job acting up than others. Some don't bother.
Lucky him, looks like Asgore ended up with one that don't see the point in bothering.
There ain't much you can do against a solid wall of muscle and magic and 80 ATK. Asgore is rightfully one of the strongest monsters Underground, and his double is no exception. Still, a bit of key distraction might be enough to make things - less horrible and slightly more tolerable, if only for a moment.
It takes little more than a slight exertion of pressure to turn the double's SOUL blue, rooting him to the spot. Just a bit of a grounding presence, y'know?]
no subject
The real one winces a little, reaching up to turn the tines of the trident aside. The presence of one of his people here changes things. This place, wherever they are, is dangerous. He cannot think about only himself; he should definitely not let Sans get involved in this fight. Asgore lifts a hand, summoning a wall of flames in front of Sans to intercept the fireballs that the double is already sending towards him.]
no subject
A wave of fire surges at him, and he realizes very quickly that he's, uh, completely out of his element. He's out of his element ha ha get it goddamnit he is going to die
So now he's just kinda gotten Asgore worried about Sans's well-being in addition to his own. Which is just fantastic for everybody, y'know, just real top-notch.]
I'm thinkin' we should get outta here, your Maj.
no subject
[Now that he's feeling...well, a little more present, it seems like flight is the only option. Maybe he could defeat this thing alone, but he doesn't wish to leap straight to killing it. What even is it?
With Sans to protect, though, it would be too dangerous. Too likely that he might fail. With Sans, it would only take one stray bullet. For all that Asgore's huge and bulky, he can move surprisingly quickly when he cares to; he sends a harried, spiraling pattern of flame at the double, and retreats back towards Sans while it's distracted.]
Are you hurt?
no subject
Point is, engaging Asgore's clone - his real clone, and boy is he glad that Papyrus ain't around for this - is liable to do more harm than good at this juncture.]
Me? Nah, I'm fine.
[He's tired and scared outta his skin (heh), but yep, he's fine.]
Think maybe we should take a quick route outta here?

2 - SLAMS INTO DAD AT WARP SPEED
Sickening, right? Awful of him. He should know his dad is a big fuzzy pushover, wouldn't hurt a fly. But... he remembers waking up in a garden, wasting weeks with that stupid king, trying to feel something. Remembers finding out the king had taken the lives of six humans. For revenge. Remembers seeing cold, hard proof that killing had been the only way, that he got Chara killed all over again, wasted their sacrifice, turned to dust for absolutely nothing.
But he... he has to believe the best in his dad, doesn't he? The real Asriel loves his dad. The real Asriel doesn't doubt people. He has to be good.
So he casts out his paws, summons his magic, puts something between the bad Asgore and the good Asgore.
It's - it's frighteningly easy. It's practiced. It's not a fireball like Mom could do, not the flames his parents taught him to make.
It's a ring of shapeless white friendliness pellets, circling the Asgore who holds the trident like they're ready to snap his SOUL at the last second.]
L-leave him alone! You're just being a big bully!
no subject
........oh.
Has he died?
He's visibly shocked by Asriel's appearance. The double is less so.]
Of course. We are doubles, are we not?
no subject
He rushes between the two, one paw outstretched fiercely toward the double, keeping the ring of feeble little bullets in place. The other he reaches out behind him - not to summon more bullets, but to offer his dad his other hand.]
Just... just ignore him, Dad. He only wants to make you unhappy because he can. Let's just leave, okay? I can explain everything, but I don't want to do it around the bad one.
[He doesn't... Asriel doesn't think he can muster a lot of range on those little pellets, truth be told. Strong magic requires a strong soul, and he doesn't really have any soul at all, does he? He always did have a rough time facing his father down as Flowey. Couldn't even get him to hand the human souls over by force.
But maybe... he can bluff? He learned a lot about how to lie when he was a flower. He got really good at pretending to care about people, ha ha.
That's not funny.]
no subject
Ah - alright? [what is going on tbh. He hesitates for a moment, afraid of what might happen, then reaches out and takes Asriel's hand.
Solid. There.
The double opens its mouth, but Asgore lifts his other hand, and a circle of flame shoots up outside the circle of little bullets. Let's keep that in there.] Let's go quickly. [He would like to lead the way, but he actually has no idea where they are, so]
2 - hello from Hadriel's UT cast :)
They know that they should be at home with Frisk right now, but despite it all, Chara couldn't rest. There was a bit of a morbid joke in there somewhere but the child wasn't up to narrating it. Or much of anything, at this time. So they had gone for a walk to clear their head and ran across....
...oh.
Oh.
It's to be expected. The Door brought anyone it pleased without care for those who were already there. Not that seeing Asgore again was a bad thing...okay it kind of was. Considering everything. Considering the path Chara had chosen to walk, back in the Underground that left it empty. Considering...
No. There's no point in thinking about those things right now. They know their appearance will be more than a shock for the Boss Monster but those doubles had proven more than capable of hurting everything around them. Chara takes a deep breath before stepping forward to speak.]
I would recommend you leave him alone, for your sake double.
8D
Both Boss Monsters just stare at Chara for a second. One of them starts tearing up, though he doesn't quite seem aware of it.]
Ch...Chara?
[Maybe he's died already, and he simply forgot.
Asgore is entirely focused on them. So when the double lifts a paw to send a wave of fire magic at Chara, he is not quick enough to forestall the attack.]
no subject
But both Chara and Frisk have fought Asgore many times and Chara themselves had more than good reflex thanks to Sans. Moving through the fire bullets was easy, but they both needed to get out of here.]
Run! I will be right behind you sir.
[Please run. Please don't let the shock be too much that he can't.]
no subject
- ha. Toriel has asked him that. It really is his double after all.]
Chara, you -
[He doesn't understand. He doesn't understand any of what's happening. But he knows he can't have them here, and they don't seem like they're leaving. Asgore hesitates for a moment, as if trying to think of something else to say.
Then he turns, releasing a stream of fire bullets far larger than what he's ever used against the children. He still doesn't especially want to kill this...whatever it is, but he's more invested in this. It's easier to speak without looking at them.]
Go. I will be right behind you. [Why should they cover the retreat? He's a bigger target, he could shield their back even while fleeing.]
no subject
They won't abandon him. That much was firmly established in their mind. But they're also a bit of a liability here. Chara begins to back up slowly, keeping an eye on Asgore's double. Again, 80 ATK and Chara's gotten far to used to even 1 ATK being enough to kill them.]
Follow me when you can.
[Chara waits until things are stretched thin. Then they bolt, hoping he will follow as soon as he can.]
(no subject)
3, shakin it up but rounding out the UT cast screaming and running here at top speed
Asgore, for instance, is one of those things.
She hasn't seen him in... god, months now. Since everything started going wrong, and then ending up here. She wasn't sure she was ever going to see him again.
Alphys isn't even sure she should approach, at first. But eventually she comes quietly, hands pressed together as she tries to be as small as possible.]
... A-Asgore?
no subject
[.....it seems like there's something else he should say. Honestly, he should probably be worried about her, here on her own in this place, but just now the whole place is seeming perfectly nice and peaceful. So there's no problem, right?]
Would you like a cup of tea?
no subject
[It's... partially a relief to see him again, but something still gnaws at her.]
I'd, uhm, l-love to join you for some tea. If that's okay, and I'm not, uh, intruding or anything.
[She shuffles over to sit nearby, hands balled in her lap to steady herself.]
When uhm, d-did you arrive?
no subject
Only recently. How long have you been here?
[He doesn't seem particularly concerned about her; just kinda vaguely curious. She's been fine, right?]
no subject
[Something like 3 or 4. In all honesty, she hasn't paid much attention to the time passing. It all feels kind of off to begin with.]
It's been, uhm... okay, I g-guess. There's a lot of humans, though. It's, uhm, k-kind of strange to be interacting with them so much.
