Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open June 24th, and apps are open July 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: A LITTLE FRENZIED
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Do you hear something weird? Some kind of strange, constant humming? Hopefully by now you know enough to know that it's probably not nothing, and maybe you should run. If you don't, well- the Door has brought in some Winter Lanterns, from the Bloodborne video game.

Winter Lanterns are rather hideous creatures that hum constantly and glow orange when they detect someone's presence. They can grab you with their tentacles and take a nice bite out of you, which is super fun, or they can mess you up just by looking at you too long. Yep, hanging out in the gaze of a Winter Lantern for too long will end with you being afflicted by Frenzy - blood shooting out all over the place. Not great for the health, really, so maybe don't get into a staring contest. Maybe just run.]

S O R R O W / L O V E

SCENARIO TWO: HAUNTED
[You thought you might never see them again, but now they're here. That person you loved - that person you miss terribly. Except that you seem to be the only person who can see them, and you also seem to be getting steadily weaker.

So that's what it comes down to, then. This ghost that's haunting you will take your life so it can live, even if it doesn't mean to. Do you have the ability to stop them? You'll have to kill them to do it, and you love them so much. Now's the time to make your choice - but be careful. They're strong enough to be visible now, and one of your friends or even a passing stranger might have something to say about your decision.

This is a mini version of our Ghosts That You Know event this month!]

T R A N Q U I L I T Y

SCENARIO THREE: SLEEPING SICKNESS
[For some reason you can't quite put your finger on, you're tired. Like really tired. Like slurring your words, stumbling over your own feet, nodding off if you stop for a second tired. You can't seem to get enough rest no matter what you try - because it's always a light sleep. The slightest sound or movement will wake you up, leaving you just as tired and irritable as before.

What are you going to do? Try to find a quiet place to nap? Good luck. It seems like a lot of other people have the same idea as you - it might be hard to find a truly empty place. Or maybe you just can't take it anymore, and you're going to lay down and take a nap right in the middle of the street. Or maybe you actually feel fine, but everyone around you is falling asleep - and they glare at you when you make the slightest sound.

Maybe you should wake them up? Sleeping in the middle of the street isn't exactly safe. But then, maybe you just want to join them and argue over who gets the most comfortable bit of road.]

Well... maybe. But if you can't beat it, aren't you more useful alive than dead?

[Like Tatara can talk, actually. He's always been the weakest member of HOMRA. He's a pacifist, and even if he did fight, he didn't really have the strength to do it with.]

A student? Well, I've always been fond of long stories. I've got an ear if you want it.

[He checks around a corner and then rounds it as he tries to look for a decent hiding place. He points to a nearby shop.]

There! Come on.

[He jogs toward the shop and then holds open the door for his new comrade.]

Hurry, I don't know how far that thing is behind us or how intelligent it is.

[Raidou keeps an eye on their backs the whole way, and as they dart into the shop, they seem to be in the clear. He lets out a short sigh of relief once inside, but he knows better than to let his guard down.

He uses this moment to reload his pistol while they talked. No modern student wore a uniform like his, and certainly no usual student walked around with a sword and gun openly on themselves.]

I'm a devil summoner. I've fought plenty of creatures along the lines of whatever that was, but few things so hearty. Everything has a weakness, we just need to find it.

Ah, so that cute little thing was a Devil? How can something adorable be called something so terrible?

[He's laughing lightly.]

I don't know anything about weaknesses. I'm no good at that. Running away is about all I'm good for.

[Or sneaking into headquarters to get hidden information on a Strain. But don't expect him to bring that up anytime soon.]

Besides, there's nothing like that where I'm from. We've got people with weird abilities, but no actual monsters.

Do you know how to find it's weakness?

[Whether that's an offer for help or a genuine curiousity seems to be a bit ambiguous.]

[Raidou did crack a smile at that comment.] Oh, Jack Frost... Yes, well, don't let him hear you call him that.

[He reholsters his gun and keeps an eye on the windows. So far so good. No sign of the Lantern.]

Just keep fighting it. It wasn't too weak to anything I threw at it yet, but I have a few more options. And if it doesn't have a weakness I can exploit, I'll have to make one.

Jack Frost? Like the fairytale man that makes winter? With the Christmas song about him nipping at your nose?

[Tatara looks genuinely amused by this. It's rather interesting to see how someone else's world functions. With myths and legends coming to life right before him.]

Do you have more of those Devils to use? Or is it something else you plan on?

[Probably the former. But Tatara would like to know the game plan, just in case.]

What will you do if it has friends now?

I can't say I'm familiar with the song, but yes, that sort of Jack Frost. And just one other, unfortunately. Hopefully he can help. Please stand back,
he's rather large.

[He draws out one of the tubes from the bandoleer on his chest. There's a green flash of light as out comes Nue, who's easily the size of a lion. He asks his master what he wanted of him, but Raidou tells him to just hold tight for now.

With regards to Tatara's last question:]

If it has company, we will definitely have to split them up somehow. Unless we can find a way to kill them quickly, we're no match against multiples.

[Tatara does as he's told and steps back considerably. And when the light flashes and Nue appears, he looks genuinely amazed.]

Oh, wow. Now that is interesting. Where do you find them?

[Tatara seems... hesitant... at that last piece of information.

After a little longer, he gives a slightly nervous laugh.]

Well, then, let's hope it doesn't come to that.

[He does have one trick he can use. And if it comes down to it, he'll use it. But it takes alot of his energy to do it, and he doesn't know how far a tiny illusion will get them.]

What should I do, then? So I'm not a burden.

Around. [It sounds like an evasive answer, but it's really not.] Some people can see them, most cannot. There's also a realm where they live, when not in our own.

Raidou gives Tatara a quick appraising look. He's not one to really judge a book by the cover, though.]

Depends on what you can do, I suppose. But you just told me all you're good for is running away. You don't have to go back out there if you don't want to.

[It might sound a little cold, but he's not judging, really. He's perfectly fine going after this thing alone again. No different from any other day, really.]

[His smile never breaks, even as Raidou appraises him.]

Yea, pretty much. Unless you think it will take well to a negotiation. In which case, I could definitely do that.

I'm a pacifist, anyway. I won't be much good in an aggressive situation. The best I could be is a distraction.

[Which... he's fine with. If only by request.]

I'm not sure they're willing to listen to reason. [He's negotiated with a few demons in his day, and this one seemed far too hostile.]

You don't have to go back out there. I'm used to dealing with this sort of thing all the time. If it gets a hold of you, I can't guarantee I can get you out right away.

Alright, if you insist. I'll wait right here.

[He absolutely has no problem with waiting back here. He'll watch from the safety of the shop. That way if Raidou ends up over his head, he can jump in with his last resort.

He finds a storage box to sit on and makes himself comfortable, giving a smile and a wave.]

[After another moment of thought, right before he leaves with his demon, Raidou turns around and unholsters his gun, and hands it to Tatara grip first. He doesn't like the idea of handing it over, but he also doesn't like the idea of Tatara sitting here defenseless.]

Take this. In case I don't come back. It's better than nothing, and though it probably won't kill it, it will buy you some time.

[Hoo boy, that sure is a gun. Tatara might have paled a few shades behind that smile. He passes it off with a nervous laugh.]

Sorry, but I won't use that. [His hands go up in the surrender motion, refusing to take the gun.]

I really am a pacifist. If it comes after me, I'm sure it'll all work out somehow. You're better off holding onto it.

[Raidou doesn't look too happy to leave Tatara defenseless, but he nods, respecting his decision.]

You're probably better off staying in here until it's taken care of. I think it's too big to fit through the door. That doesn't mean it doesn't have other tricks up its sleeve, so stay vigilant.

[Raidou looks out the door himself, and when the coast looks clear, he lets Nue out first. He gives Tatara another nod before he takes off towards where they had come from.]

[Tatara nods in response to the orders with another smile.]

Aye aye, Captain! [He mock salutes.

And then he scoots his way to the windows after Raidou leaves, trying to see if he can keep an eye on the situation while keeping himself placed inconspicuously between the wall panels to try and stay hidden, in case one of those monsters really does come his way.

Just in case Raidou might need help after all. He wonders if the soldier-in-training will be alright.]

[The boy and his demon run out of view, and are gone for several minutes - what probably seems like a lot longer. The sound of a scuffle is somewhere nearby, and involves some more gunshots, Nue's roars, and what sounds like the crackle of electricity.

He does come back, though, victorious, though Nue isn't to be seen. He's walking alright, but he's taken some hits, and there's some blood on his face he's trying to wipe off with his sleeve. He double checks to make sure there aren't any other ones around before darting back into the store with Tatara.]

Ah, well, I managed to defeat it. And it seems to be the only one nearby for now.

[Well, that's no good. When Tatara sees the traces of blood, he trots around the store, looking for anything that he can use for first aid. ...Unfortunately, this doesn't really seem like the shop for such a thing. He grabs some towels and a bottle of water and makes his way back to Raidou.

He does wonder where Nue got to, but this is what's important now.]

Please sit down. [He pours some of the water onto one of the towels and moves to start cleaning up the blood.]

[Raidou blinked at Tatara for a moment. His eyes were bloodshot, too. Apparently that's where the blood had been coming from. Yikes.

He was about to protest, but you know what? Sitting down sounds like a good idea right now.]

That thing... It does something to you when you look at it too long. I hate to think what might have happened if I had kept it up.

[Tatara smiles gently as he cleans the blood from Raidou's face.

Well, then, perhaps it's time to find another tactic. Losing all of this blood isn't good for you.

[He pours more water onto a clean cloth before continuuing.]

Besides, you don't want the worse to happen and get stuck in a group of them, right?

[It's obvious he's a little embarrassed having a total stranger do this for him, but his vision is blurry and his head was still swimming.]

If there's more than one of them, we'll definitely have to rethink tactics. But that's the only one I've seen out there so far. I guess this means it's time to figure out where we are, now.

True. If there are more. [Tatara gives a light chuckle.]

Well, wherever we are, I don't think it's Heaven. But it's not scary enough to be Hell, either.

[Tatara, that monster was totally scary...

He holds out a freshly wet cloth to Raidou.]

Hold this over your eyes. It might help.

[Then he gets up and looks around the store for juice, thinking of what they give blood donors to keep them from feeling faint.]

[He does as instructed, because boy that feels so much better right now.]

I don't think it's either. You're probably right on the latter.

[Please, he's been in some pretty scary places like this, and they weren't Hell either. Even if they were crawling with demons.]

That's good, though. That means there's hope that we can find a way out.

[Tatara shuffles through a selection on the shelf before coming back with tomato juice and orange juice.

Although his eyebrows raise curiously at Raidou's statemtent - to find a way out. And for a moment he feels hesitant. He's not sure what it would be like if he left here. Heaven it's not, but it did bring him from the world of the dead.

If he sets foot out of here, will he die again? His grasp on this world is hardly more than that of a dream right now.

He gives a faint chuckle.]

Well, if you want out of here, I'm happy to help you. Maybe there is a way out.

Tomato or orange? You really should drink something.

If there's a way in, there's a way out. Even if it's not the same route. And considering I'm not sure how I got here...

[Oh, right. He did lose some blood, didn't he.]

Oh. Orange, please.

[Tatara presses the orange juice bottle to Raidou's hand before sitting himself on the floor beside the other man, accepting the tomato juice for himself.]

I'm not sure how I got here either. Though... It's what makes me wonder. Can you be so sure there's a way out?

[His tone is even, more contemplative than anything, and then the smile returns to it as he looks back toward Raidou.]

I distinctly remember getting shot, and dying in someone's arms. [The tone saddens slightly; they were Yata's arms, and all he could to Yata was that he was sorry, but everything would be alright.] If there's a way out, I don't think I can go back.

[Would watching Mikoto, Anna, and the rest of HOMRA from Heaven be better or worse than to be breathing in a tangible world such as this one? Anna hadn't told him either that he'd come back from the dead. Only that he would die if he continued to follow Mikoto.]

Maybe it's even Purgatory.
