test drive meme #21

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open June 24th, and apps are open July 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: A LITTLE FRENZIED
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Do you hear something weird? Some kind of strange, constant humming? Hopefully by now you know enough to know that it's probably not nothing, and maybe you should run. If you don't, well- the Door has brought in some Winter Lanterns, from the Bloodborne video game.

Winter Lanterns are rather hideous creatures that hum constantly and glow orange when they detect someone's presence. They can grab you with their tentacles and take a nice bite out of you, which is super fun, or they can mess you up just by looking at you too long. Yep, hanging out in the gaze of a Winter Lantern for too long will end with you being afflicted by Frenzy - blood shooting out all over the place. Not great for the health, really, so maybe don't get into a staring contest. Maybe just run.]

S O R R O W / L O V E

SCENARIO TWO: HAUNTED
[You thought you might never see them again, but now they're here. That person you loved - that person you miss terribly. Except that you seem to be the only person who can see them, and you also seem to be getting steadily weaker.

So that's what it comes down to, then. This ghost that's haunting you will take your life so it can live, even if it doesn't mean to. Do you have the ability to stop them? You'll have to kill them to do it, and you love them so much. Now's the time to make your choice - but be careful. They're strong enough to be visible now, and one of your friends or even a passing stranger might have something to say about your decision.

This is a mini version of our Ghosts That You Know event this month!]

T R A N Q U I L I T Y

SCENARIO THREE: SLEEPING SICKNESS
[For some reason you can't quite put your finger on, you're tired. Like really tired. Like slurring your words, stumbling over your own feet, nodding off if you stop for a second tired. You can't seem to get enough rest no matter what you try - because it's always a light sleep. The slightest sound or movement will wake you up, leaving you just as tired and irritable as before.

What are you going to do? Try to find a quiet place to nap? Good luck. It seems like a lot of other people have the same idea as you - it might be hard to find a truly empty place. Or maybe you just can't take it anymore, and you're going to lay down and take a nap right in the middle of the street. Or maybe you actually feel fine, but everyone around you is falling asleep - and they glare at you when you make the slightest sound.

Maybe you should wake them up? Sleeping in the middle of the street isn't exactly safe. But then, maybe you just want to join them and argue over who gets the most comfortable bit of road.]

"I don't know where we are, but there are people here from all over. Different times, different planets, different earth's. You're a child of Athena right? So tell me how that can be Luke if he's in the Underworld? Or if he's been reincarnated? That doesn't exactly make sense, right?"

Will stood in front of her, crossing his arms over his chest. She looked 'okay', maybe a little dazed, could probably use a meal and maybe something to keep her blood sugar up. And like she could use a nap.

"You feeling alright?"

Wait...what? Was that even possible? As if there wasn't already eniugh craziness in her life, now someone had to abduct her too? And drop her in some weird...interdimensional...cave thing. Wasn't she supposed to be done? She'd finished everything they'd asked her to do, couldn't she just get a peaceful life now?

"Yes. No. I'm...a little overwhelmed and a lot done with all the...ridiculousness."

"It's not that bad." Maybe Will only thought so because he had never been on a quest before. Or maybe it was because he was more easy going than Annabeth, or most demigods were. He wasn't too bothered by it.

"Although I haven't had as much ridiculousness as you have." He crossed his arms and looked at her. "You just overwhelmed or are you hurt?"

"How is it not that bad?" Probably because evrything was "not that bad" to Will. Everything always had a good side, even if he had to make it up to find one. It was exactly that bad as far as she was concerned. Better to be prepared for the worst than complacent because someone told her it was "not that bad."

"Not hurt, I promise. I'm just...not sure what to make of all this."

Annabeth had a point. A good point. But trust Will to always look at the sunny side of things.

"I used a cell phone and didn't get attacked." Hey, that was totally an upside! I haven't been here long, but the monsters I've been told seem to be confined to the colosseum and tunnels, at least for now. And we have experience with Gods which puts us at more of an advantage than the rest of the residents who don't know what to expect."

He was watching you Annabeth, and he had a backpack full of nectar, ambrosia and snacks if he didn't believe you.

She wasn't going to be the one to burst his bubble and say that she'd also managed that a time or two. Something told her hers wasn't going to work or she'd have pulled it out to check by now. Because it could never be as easy as calling someone to come pick her up, please, she's gotten lost and ended up in a cave. Yeah, that one with the city and the colosseum in it, you know where it is.

"Should I ask what's keeping them there or is the answer 'the gods did it?'" He was right that they at least had some kind of advantage in dealing with occasionally temperamental gods. Maybe that would help?

Yeah let's not rub in the fact that she's been able to use a cell phone a time or two. Or actually owns one. Or is able to live outside in the mortal world and has seen a movie in the theaters. One day he'd have to ask her how she managed it all. Maybe it was because she was one of the 'a-list' demigods. One of the ones who had actually gone on a quest.

"I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure the answer is 'the gods did it.'"

"Wonderful." Just because it was a reason she'd learned to accept didn't make it any less stupid or frustrating. So ridiculous. The gods did it. That left absolutely no room to solve the problem because the moment she tried she'd end up as a tree or a bush or something. Although, that hadn't exactly stopped her in the past.

"Okay, so what now? You've been here longer than I have."

At least you understood Annabeth. He'd been here for weeks with mortals who weren't used to being around Gods. It was frustrating, more frustrating that apparently mortals weren't even safe from them.

"I've just been keeping my head low, working at the clinic here. I want to try to be at the Colosseum when apparently newcomers arrive. They might need a good medic. These buildings are insane though. You might want to take a look, if you ever want to design something completely crazy. You're into architecture right?"

Will paused. "And you might want to kill the monster impersonating Luke."

Of course not. It was never that easy. She should be used to that by now, really--they all should be, quest or no. Some monster or god or...whatever was always out to hurt people.

"Yeah, I'll take a look once I get a moment to breathe. If that's even possible." She doubted it. She never got a moment to breathe. And being cut off from the gods she knew didn't mean that she wasn't going to be just as busy for these ones.

She blanched a little, though, at Will's suggestion. Yes, it wasn't him, but still...

"Uh...y-yeah." Easier said than done.

He reached over to touch her hand again, gripping it tight. They weren't friends, he didn't know her that well really, they walked in different crowds at Camp. His only connection to her really was Nico, and that he'd stitched her back up after she got stabbed with a poison blade. But at the moment, they were all they had.

"I know. But it's not Luke. Just remember that. It's a monster, or these gods playing hackey sack with us." Now there was a wonderful mental image.

He paused. "Do you want me too?"

"It's easy to say that..." She sighed. Could she even do this? As much as she knew she had to, when she looked at him--no, it--it still looked like Luke. She couldn't look at him without losing all of her resolve. She couldn't do it on Olympus, what made her think she could do it now?

"No! Yes. I don't...I don't know."

Re: Annabeth Chase | Percy Jackson Novels

Yes but on Olympus, it really was actually Luke. This time....well it still looks like Luke, but it's not Luke. "I'd say leave it but....I'm not sure it's going to get easier if you wait. And I don't think he's likely to go away." He squeezed her hand.

It wasn't fair, hadn't Annabeth been through enough? She'd been on multiple quests, been at camp for years longer than the demigods he knew. But, it was never going to stop. That was the fate for heroes. Tragedy.

Will was right. Annabeth knew he was right. That didn't make it any easier. It was one thing to know and another thing entirely to do. It still looked like Luke, and that made it harder. Maybe it knew that. Actually, knowing that it was a monster, it probably did.

"It...it's fine. I-I think I can do it." Maybe. She was shaking, but she could at least try, right? What was the worst that could happen?
