test drive meme #23

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open August 25th, and apps are open September 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: SLIPPERY NAKED PEOPLE
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

No big deal, but there's a freaky wall-climbing zombie thing stalking you. Maybe you should get inside? Or run. Or just accept death. This time, the Door has brought in some Descendants, from the Uncharted video game.

Descendents are emaciated, man-eating monsters that used to be normal people until affected by a virus - you know how that goes! Terribly, always. They are fast and agile and quite strong, and they will stalk you and crawl up walls and maybe break your neck if they can. Badass.]

S O R R O W / H O P E

SCENARIO TWO: THE FUTURE ISN'T BRIGHT
[You found a mirror. It's your mirror, created just for you, and when you look into it - well. You might not want to look more than once, because it shows an image of the worst possible future you could imagine for yourself. Maybe you're dead. Maybe someone you love it. Maybe you've lost everything. Basically, it sucks.

What are you gonna do? Throw it away? Smash it? Keep looking over and over because you love pain? Or maybe someone else threw theirs away, and you're the one that found it. You really, really want to look. Invasive, maybe, but your curiosity is killing you. Just a peek...

This is a mini version of our Bad End event this month.]

L O V E

SCENARIO THREE: VISIT ME AND EXPLAIN YOUR PASSIONS
[You know that totally inconsequential hobby? The one that you love? Or maybe your favorite TV show or comic book? Wouldn't it be great if you had someone to talk to about it? Someone who would listen patiently while you explain the family tree from that obscure fantasy novel you reread every year?

Well, wait no longer! Your time is now! The moment you make eye contact with someone, you'll know they want to listen to you explain your obsession. They've just been waiting and hoping you'll come along and educate them! So go to town, buddy, tell them all about your waifu.

Or maybe a stranger just walked up to you and started talking about their favorite knitting pattern. That's... cool. Are you gonna interrupt them? Walk away? Get into an argument about how your favorite knitting pattern is so much better? Now's the time to show your passion, or possibly your complete disinterest! Go for it!]

Would you believe me if I said they were really old Spanish conquistadors?

[He hazards, moving around the guy and picking up his cane before pressing it into his outstretched hand. Not far away the descendant of Their Majesties' New World mission screams, black spittle flying from its mouth as it pounds its bony fists on the ground. At the very least it's sensed that it's outnumbered, though if they hang around much longer the tables will turn. Those aren't odds he wants to face right now, not when the last time he recalls being surrounded by them ended so poorly.

Nate's new acquaintance wouldn't be wrong about the distinct lack of fear. He lives for this kind of shit.
]

I can give you the grand tour once we get out.

[Or...something, since there's that whole "sight" issue. Distantly, Nate is concerned as to whether this is going to be the third time in as many months that he has to physically carry someone away from the Coliseum. He opens his mouth to speak again when the creature interrupts with another disgusting gargling sound. Nate shoots it a dirty look.]

Muerde mi culo, dickhead. [Then, quickly, to the new guy:] ...that was- for him, not- ...you. Uh. Looks like it's backing off, though.

Honestly, I think I'd believe pretty much anything right now.

[Every time Matt thinks things have gotten as strange as they can get, he has to go and readjust his entire threshold for weird. Eventually he'll learn to not be surprised by anything.

His fingers curl around the cane. Well, if they can get out of this without a fight, all the better. He doesn't particularly feel like giving away all his secrets to whoever might be watching. Not yet, not if he can avoid it.

He can't hold back a startled laugh of a sound at that. Well.]

I was hoping not. Lawyers are known for pissing people off, but we did just meet.

[That said,] Backing off is good. Maybe we should do that too?
nonscriptum: I have committed Not One Sin! (Look at this innocent face!)

[personal profile] nonscriptum 2017-08-30 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, lemme just give him a parting gift so he thinks twice about getting his friends.

[Normally, Nate would be inclined to live and let live, but he remembers seeing Eddy Raja get dragged into a hole in the floor screaming bloody murder. The guy was an ambitious jerk, but he didn't deserve to be torn apart by those things. Leveling his firearm, he takes aim and clips the side of its head as it scrambles back into the shadows, hissing. The only weapon that ever really worked on these was a shotgun or a full hail of assault rifle bullets, neither of which are all that accessible - if it returns with a swarm, they can't be here.

He holsters the Beretta and finally turns back to look at his new acquaintance: lawyer, who apparently understands Spanish. If he's that used to pissing people off he must be a defense attorney.
]

Met my fair share of lawyers, they're not all bad. It's a rough gig.

[Nate speaks from the experience of having known a few assigned to his various cases in various countries, before charges were either dropped or dismissed from lack of evidence. Nothing high-profile. He was always lucky.]

...do you need...like, an arm, or...?

[personal profile] sightlessly 2017-08-30 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Matt can hear the bullef strike true, knows that this guy has hit the thing in the head and mostly just made it mad. Though it's apparently pissed off enough to draw back. So there's that little silver lining. Matt is already certain he has no desire to encounter its friends, at least not entirely unprepared for it as he is right this moment.

So getting out of this place sounds great.]

That'd probably be the fastest way.

[Not because he couldn't keep up perfectly well without the physical guidance, but because it is a great deal easier than trying to explain why he could. Of course that illusion will last only as long as they aren't met with any other hostile creatures a bit more intent on attacking.]
nonscriptum: one time I had coffee-flavored ice cream (hey I'm fancy)

sorry about the delay my dude, August is the worst work month for me

[personal profile] nonscriptum 2017-09-08 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nate has spent the last few "new arrival" days serving as an assist to needy people out of the goodness of his heart and the fact that it's one of the few things here that can really get his heart racing. Imminent threats have a way of doing that to a guy.

The lawyer seems strangely unruffled, but he might just be one of those people who maintains calm in most scenarios while screaming on the inside.

Reaching for the guy's right hand, Nate affixes it to his left forearm - he needs his gun hand free, just in case - and starts steering the both of them out the way he came, intent on putting some distance between them and the slippery naked people.
]

Next time we go to prom together, you can be the escort,

[he quips without thinking, eyeing the high walls of the Coliseum and the many holes in them from which new assailants might climb.]
sightlessly: (Matt11)

no worries :D

[personal profile] sightlessly 2017-09-09 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I just hope it's a better prom theme than 'Subterranean Creature Feature' [Matt answers without hesitation, sparing a quick smirk of a smile in Nate's general direction. His hand grips lightly onto his arm. It works to make sure they don't get separated as well, and since he has less than zero idea where they are or where they're going, he'll let Nate lead.

He keeps up easy enough at least. Matt's attention is focused around them as well, listening, paying attention to the way the very air stirred around them, the faint but unmistakable smell of whatever those things were. He didn't plan to be snuck up on.

Except. His fingers tighten around Nate's forearm.]
...not this way.

[A tilt of his head, angling an ear in that direction.] It's not clear.
nonscriptum: we're gonna turn this debacle into a straight up "bacle" (don't worry. it's gonna be fine.)

[personal profile] nonscriptum 2017-09-18 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nice to know that there are people out there who can throw a zinger right back at you. Nate huffs a laugh through his nose and leads the way.

They’re about a minute from the exit when he feels tension in the fingers wrapped around his forearm, pulling slightly, and he glances back to the lawyer. He's stopped (clearly), his head tipped to one side, and Nate swears the guy is actively listening to their surroundings, like that’s really going to help their situation unless something is right on top of them.
]

It’s not clear?

[He clarifies, raising an eyebrow and looking down the left side of the fork in front of them. Nothing jumps out at him immediately as “abnormal.”]

What, do you have super hearing?
nonscriptum: why doesn't everyone just drop their sandwich on the floor?! (no! you can do that?!)

[personal profile] nonscriptum 2017-09-18 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Just as quickly Nate sobers, remembering the way that this place works, and lowers his voice as he moves closer.]

Do you have super hearing?
sightlessly: (Matt19)

[personal profile] sightlessly 2017-09-19 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Matt grimaces at the first question, before shaking his head. Not clear. He doesn't know if he can explain it in a succinct enough way, when really, he thinks they should keep moving before they find more unfortunate company down here, shuffling along the damn walls.

Well, no help for it.]

I hear better than I see. [Smart ass comments aside, he sighs before admitting, voice low, quiet, on edge because he's quite certain that they're perilously close to being not alone, and he'd rather not get into an all out fight.] I can hear them. Their movements, their... it's not a heartbeat, exactly, not a normal one anyway.
nonscriptum: no, too much, let me sum up (let me explain)

[personal profile] nonscriptum 2017-09-27 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Judging by the comments that more or less nimbly dodge his question, Nate makes the immediate assumption that the lawyer does have super hearing, and it’s the kind of detail he would have appreciated earlier.]

Yeah, no shit.

[Nate snorts, grabbing his elbow without further ado and steering him another way.]

They’ve been alive since the 1600s, if they were normal I’d be real worried.
sightlessly: (Default)

[personal profile] sightlessly 2017-09-28 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
[And Matt will allow himself to be steered.] Fair point.

[There's something entirely unsettling about thinking about these things, the more he hears.]

This way sounds clear.

[Matt informs him... helpfully]
nonscriptum: I think that's what terrifies me the most (you're completely serious)

[personal profile] nonscriptum 2017-09-28 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[If he wants to be really unsettled, he should stick around and see how these things eat.

Er- hear how they eat.

Whatever.
]

Thanks, [he replies in a rush, tugging perhaps too forcefully but surprised that the guy is actually capable of keeping up.] I'm Nate, by the way.
sightlessly: (Default)

[personal profile] sightlessly 2017-09-28 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hard pass. Extra hard pass.

Matt keeps up quite easily, probably too easily, but hell. He's already admitted he hears way better than your average man on the street, it's a hop skip and a jump to actually all my senses are enhanced to the point of perceiving better than most sighted people; also I was trained as a fighter']

Matthew. [A pause, and he amends,] Matt. Thanks again for the hand, Nate. I wasn't looking forward to trying to fend that thing off. Or any of its pals.
