Test Drive Meme #24

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open September 24th, and apps are open October 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: TITAN TERRORS
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

In this case, the monster behind you may as well be the monster above you. No, not anything flying overhead, but the freakishly giant nude monsters hellbent on shoving your crunchy body into their mouths and chowing down.

Titans are large humanlike creatures who have superior strength, though more limited intelligence. Much like zombies, they desire only to devour all of the humans in their vicinity and will use any tools at their disposal to do so. Get your steel guitars ready and get pumped, because sie sind das essen und wir sind die jager!!!]

SCENARIO TWO: PAINTBALL ROYALE
[You've got a gun.

Okay, it's not a real gun- it's actually a paintball gun, which seems to knock people unconscious when you hit them. That's a pretty sweet deal! Except, you really want to be the last one standing, and you'll knock out countless people to do it. Every fight feels like life or death, whether you're waiting in the shadows to get the drop on someone or spraying paint all across the open streets in the fain hopes that you might get a tag or two.

Either way, if you lose, you'll find yourself waking up in a party! That's not so bad, right? It's a giant gathering of all the paint-covered losers in the city, with free food and drinks and a distribution of excellent prizes. What did you win? Fight your friends, but not in the dark and trauma-y way, and be the next winner of our Hadriel death (not really) match!

This is a mini version of our Party Royale event this month.]

C O N F U S I O N

SCENARIO THREE: WALK WALK FASHION BABY
[Your trusty leather jacket is gone. So are your worn and torn jeans, all your summer dresses, your boots and high tops and heels. Suddenly, nothing is where you expect it to be, not even that load of clothes that you've left in the laundry for the past few weeks (oops). In the stead of all of your beloved duds, you find some stuff that... might be a little questionable.

Whether you were the lucky recipient of the hand shawl, the face skirt, the suspender sweats or some other wild atrocity, you'll be sure to have some fun trying to maneuver around the city in your weird, cumbersome outfits. At least you don't look as silly as that guy over there in the sea urchin costume!]

[Margaery was unfamiliar with shellfish until she moved to King's Landing which was next to the sea]

Perhaps? The so-called gods are capable of many things.

[ It's been awhile since he had fresh fruit as well, and so claims a slice of her recommendation as well as a few sandwich wedges... there's more on his plate than he's been able to eat in one sitting since before Chorus. He'll probably go back for seconds but for now it's definitely a lot to try. Wash stuffs the crab puff in his mouth in one bite, and makes a muffled sound of approval before swallowing. ]

Not bad.

[ Not exactly hearty either, though, and he's got an appreciation for filling foods above fancy ones. ]

[Margaery is used to feasts with twenty-plus servings. coming to Hadriel and having to get her food out of a can was difficult, not just because she'd never cooked before. she didn't even know what canned food or a can opener were]

See? I told you.

[back home, Marg was expected to take and eat little pieces of everything and keep her figure. not exactly easy]

[ Wash has never been to a feast. This is an insane amount of food to him, for the number of people here. Rations life. He's stuffing another pastry in his mouth before answering, like now that he's started eating he's realized just how ravenous he is. ]

You did... guess I should be glad you came along.

[ Just to confirm that the food was safe. He takes another bite like he hasn't eaten the whole time he's been here... because he hardly has. ]

[this to her is average. her second wedding feast had fifty courses, not counting the pigeon pie and the poisoned wine that killed her second husband]

Yes, you should. Otherwise, you might still be staring at all of this wonderful food and not eating any of it.

[Marg may not trust the gods any further than she can throw The Wall, but she didn't figure they'd bother with poisoning food]

You're gonna make me dance, though... you might regret that call.

[she laughs brightly] You can't be that bad.

If I step on you, you'll still be feeling it tomorrow.

[ The armor nearly doubles his weight. ]

I'm sure I'll survive.

[and with that, it's on to the dance floor?]

[ If she insists. Wash takes the last bite of food off his plate and is full enough for the time being -- it's hard not to just stuff himself, when there's so much available, but he can always get more later -- and follows Margaery. Stops beside her on the dance floor, helmet still tucked under his arm, looking completely out of his depth. It's probably been at least a decade since he danced. He's not sure he knows how anymore. ]

[she is honestly not sure what to do with the helmet, but since he seems intent on keeping a hold of it, she's going to work with that. she immediately rules out all Westerosi styles of dance since he seems to be uncertain about how to dance in general]

Now, you put your arm around me--the one with the helmet--and I'll take your other hand and hold it up like this [takes his hand and holds it up in demonstration].

[ When was the last time he was even this close to someone he wasn't fighting... Wash tries not to think about that. Instead he stands there awkwardly a moment longer before setting his helmet down on the floor and stepping in, wrapping an arm around her and settling his hand on her back. His other hand lifts as instructed. He can handle this. ]

[she takes his free hand with hers] Now, I'm going to lead at first since you seem a little bit nervous. Is that all right?

I'm not.

[ He is.

He's fought off entire squadrons by himself, and he's nervous dancing with this strange, charming woman. Even when he did go out with others on shore leave, this wasn't the sort of dancing anyone did. And he'd never been particularly good. He'd always been the awkward one, the butt of the jokes. ]

Lead away.

All right.

[yeahhhh, she can tell that he is. but she also figures that drawing attention to it would be a Bad Idea]

I will. [she starts to lead him in a slow box step, simple enough to keep up with and predictable]

[ Well that's easy enough. He isn't moving his body much besides just stepping after her, though. ]

[she continues this for a while before asking] Do you feel like trying something a little more challenging?

Sure. What did you have in mind?

A waltz? Someone taught it to me. He said it was an Earth dance. Are you from Earth?

...sort of. I grew up on an Earth colony called Minab.

[ It was glassed while he was away fighting the war... something dark flashes in Wash's eyes at the mention of his home world. ]

I've seen waltzes before.

A colony of Earth? [she tips her head to the side in mild confusion I didn't know that Earth had colonies.

[Margaery does see it, but chooses not to pursue it. she assumes it would be something painful]

They're very simple, once you catch the rhythm of it.

Earth has lots of colonies. Or we did... we lost a lot of them in the Covenant War. Including Minab.

[ And that's all he's gonna say on it. She didn't have to ask, in the end, but he's done. ]

Teach me?

You lost your home? I'm so sorry.

[and she is. she technically lost her home, too]

[brightens] Yes, of course. It's really very simple. [explanation of how to waltz goes here, I don't knooooow]

It was a long time ago.

[ And he still hasn't found anywhere to call home. Maybe he never will. It's just been one damn thing after another ever since he was drafted.

For now he focuses on dancing, following Margaery's instructions easily. He's still stiff, but he's certainly keeping up well. Catching on fast. He hasn't stepped on her yet, either, which is good considering how much his armor weighs. No missteps, no slip ups. The hardest part of it all is really just being so close. He can smell her, something sweet and floral and pleasant, and though he can't feel her warmth through the armor he can feel that her body is soft and yielding. He could crush her hand in his and she couldn't do a thing. But she's staying this close, trusting him. A complete stranger in combat armor.

Wash has to wonder why. ]

Do you do this sort of thing often? Take complete strangers under your wing?

That doesn't necessarily make it hurt any less.

[she can feel how stiff he seems and has to figure that it's not just the armor making him so. but he's still going along with her, at least for now, so that makes her pleased. the armor is unlike anything she's ever seen before, looking far more advanced than anything she's seen thus far. she wants to ask about it, but isn't sure that questions would be welcome]

I do. Why not? And you seemed--uncomfortable.
