I think Delmar would be very moved / touched. It would certainly be the first time someone told him he reminded them of a positive/signficant presence in their lives. I don't think delmar's lived experience (i.e. always being on the outside, never being important to anyone) would lead him to feel at all hurt or cheated by being a reminder of another person if its a positive thing. i think he'll be honored to have been thought of at all in the first place.
