TEST DRIVE MEME #5
Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open January 25th, and apps are open February 1st.
Two quick points here as well:1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!
Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R
SCENARIO ONE: HERE KITTY KITTY
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.
Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something on the rooftops watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to separate you from your group and tear you into pieces. This time, the Door has brought in coeurls, from the video game Final Fantasy X for you meet.
These cat-like monsters can use elemental magic to attack, as well as their teeth and claws. When injured, they can cast a spell that will drain energy from their attacker and give it to them - and they are even able to temporarily petrify you. So if you decide to fight, let's hope you can finish them off quick!]
SCENARIO TWO: BURIED ALIVE
[What a wonderful day to find yourself - or a friend, or a stranger - buried six feet under. Covered in thick earth, the sturdy oak walls of the coffin trapping you in darkness, all alone. Not a soul to hear any cries of help.
Either you're in a coffin yourself, trapped, hoping for rescue, or you've got a GPS, a set of coordinates, and a shovel. Will you try to claw your way out of your possible grave, using only your bare hands and pure terror? Or will you be the one digging, hoping that down below is someone you love, waiting for you to unearth them?
Just don't take too long. Their air - your air - could run out at any moment.
This is a mini version of our Buried Alive event this month!]
R A G E
SCENARIO THREE: PET PEEVED
[Everything seems to be going just wrong enough to drive you right up the wall. Maybe your shoes keep coming untied, or you slammed your finger in the door while you were leaving the house. Maybe your friend keeps using the wrong form of 'your/you're' when they text you. Maybe that guy in the shop with you won't get off his damn phone.
Whatever it is, your day has been full of tiny annoyances, enough to leave you on edge and just about ready to explode. They're such little things, nothing that should inspire so much anger, but one after another - well, shouldn't anyone understand why you're mad?
And then someone else comes along, perfectly primed to push your buttons. Maybe they keep pronouncing your name wrong, or they won't stop staring at your scar, or they have hair just the right color to remind you of your last ex. You're already primed for a fight, and they seem just as pissed as you. What will you do?]
Hannah Washington / Until Dawn / spoilers imminent
not the best welcoming committee
[ Hannah cries when she finds herself in the arena.
She cries because she's lost and afraid, and because there's something like a nightmare lingering at the edge of her mind -- something terrible that she can't quite place. Hunger claws at her like a beast, so fierce that her stomach aches and she gags and wretches but there's nothing but bile.
She's shaking when she finally staggers to her feet and makes her way out into the streets. Everything here is strange and unfamiliar, and for a while she entertains the idea that she really is dreaming.
But soon a low growl up ahead startles her into a sort of hyperaware state that makes her forget how hungry and weak and confused she is. When the cat stalks into view Hannah freezes on the spot. There's something familiar about this, facing a creature that shouldn't exist, and she doesn't like it.
She turns and runs as fast she can, throwing glances over her shoulder, until she collides with someone. She clings to them but doesn't face them yet, still frantically watching for the cat. ]
We have to--
[ Her voice is hoarse and cracks from disuse so she tries smaller words, ones that are easier on her aching throat. ]
Go! Run!
no subject
Then she's turning and running, and running into him, and she's so solid she can't be anything but real. But that's impossible, there's no way -
There's no way Josh is going to let anything happen to her.
That thought, that need, pierces through him sharp enough to drown out the rest of his messy, confused thoughts. He turns, holding on to her, pushing her ahead of him, away from the cat monster.]
You run! I'll keep it back!
[And then he turns to face the monster, because he might have no weapon, but if Josh has to punch an angry cat monster in the face to protect his sister, he absolutely will.]
no subject
[ Hannah yelps his name and freezes, too shocked to keep running. It doesn't seem real, that her brother would be here in this strange place -- it makes no sense.
She can't shake the feeling that this isn't the first reunion they've had under strange circumstances either but there's no time to dwell on that with a gigantic cat stalking towards them. She grabs his arm at the elbow and tugs, urging him to run with her.
She won't leave him. She doesn't want to be alone here. ]
Josh, no! Come on, please.
no subject
It's all too much to spend time worrying over. He makes a split second decision and grabs her hand, turning to run.]
Up ahead, there's an alley. Maybe it won't be able to follow us!
[It's about the best he can do for now. If he could find a weapon, or somewhere safe - something, anything - they'd be better off. But for now, running is all he can do.]
no subject
Something very bad happened. She remembers that.
Thinking about it is almost too much and her feet feel like lead as she runs with Josh. She's ready to give up by the time they reach the alley and she doesn't even wait to make sure they're safe before she's sinking to her knees and clapping a hand over her mouth to stifle a sob. ]
no subject
Nothing. As far as Josh can tell, they're more or less safe, at least for the moment.
So that's fine. He can ignore the rest of the world, drop to his knees in front of Hannah, and put his hands on her shoulders.]
Hey, you're okay, I'm here. Nothing's gonna happen.
[He doesn't know what's wrong, exactly, but some part of him wants to cry too, because she's here and alive and he's pretty sure it's even real, she's real.]
no subject
it's frustrating but for now, she has to ignore it. right now, her focus is on whatever is lurking in the shadows and if engaging in it would be worth the effort. her tracking is halted by a sudden sound, turning and looking back just in time for someone to run straight into her.
the collision causes a moment of a shock but she quickly realizing that she is staring at the dark hair of a young woman close in age to her. she blinks once, glancing beyond them and frowning. run, huh? a witcher doesn't run. ]
I won't allow it the pleasure of chasing us down.
[ she steps past the other girl with a frown, putting herself in front of her and pulling her sword free. ] Stay behind me.
no subject
Okay. The woman has a sword.
That's... something. Hannah still isn't totally convinced this is the best course of action though. ]
Are you crazy? What are you doing?
no subject
[ she narrows a look on the creature, watching for signs and signals that ciri has recognized through her last few fights as attack patterns. after all, this isn't the first one she's seen today and it certainly won't be the last she kills either. these things are nothing compared to the wild hunt. ]
And I'd honestly rather avoid being impaled a large chunk of ice or struck down with lightning. It would certainly sour this first meeting of ours, I believe. [ reaching down at her belt, she pulls her dagger free and holds it back to the other woman. ] Yet if you still believe it wise to run, then run and I shall hold it back. Take the dagger for your own safety.
[ if hannah takes the dagger or not, ciri quickly turns back and focuses on the monster nevertheless. she watches it's fur raise on end and feels that familiar drop of pressure in the air. there's the lightning, she thinks and takes off to put distance between her and the other woman. each strike nips at her heels, the booms almost deafening but it's left the creature open during its casting and she'll take advantage of it.
for her, each step is like a part of a dance and she gets up at the creature with nimble steps while avoiding it's powerful blasts of lightning. she's breathless but pushes forward until her blade finds purchase and cuts upward into the beast's neck. it doesn't kill it instantly but it doesn't have much time and nor do they because it's hard ignore the loud growls seemingly raising up from every corner.
well, shit. ]
no subject
No fucking way.
For a moment, the whole world stops, and Emily feels like she's choking on air, on I'm sorry, on I didn't mean to hurt you, on well, not like the way you got hurt-- but if Hannah is here, if Hannah is bumping into her, grabbing onto her, saying we and urging her to go--
This is impossible.
But so is that weird cougar thing, that mountain lion or-- whatever, there's no time.]
Come on!
[And that's as much as Emily concedes before she's off, running as hard as she can. Her self-preservation instinct is too strong, too focused on herself, but the guilt is enough that she's looking over her shoulder to make sure Hannah is still with her. Hell, she might even try to hit this thing if she finds something to hit it with. If she managed to outrun a fucking wendigo born of literal cannibalism, she can outrun this thing, right? And she can-- she can even help Hannah, maybe.]
Hurry, Han!
[Baby steps. Is there a bat somewhere? A shovel? She's looking for one, between the glances at Hannah.]
no subject
[ Hannah sputters her name in disbelief, not quite sure if she's imagining things or not, but there's no time to think about that with the cat lumbering towards them — and no time to wonder about the funny, familiar little spark of anger she feels ignite deep inside at the sight of her friend, either.
Emily's off in an instant anyway and Hannah has no choice but to follow, feet pounding hard against the pavement as she runs with all her might. She doesn't spare any more glances back at the cat. She doesn't need to; she can hear it gaining on them.
Keeping her eyes ahead works in her favor, though — she notices the front door is slightly open on one of the strange-looking buildings that line the streets. ]
Emily, wait! In here!
[ She ducks inside, ready to slam the door shut as soon as Em makes it in too. ]
no subject
She has to turn around to get to the door, has to take a few steps towards the thing chasing them. Her heart hammers in her chest, drowning out every sound but the creature's growling.
But she does it, turns and heads for Hannah, dives through the doorway as the mountain lion thing leaps at her. She hits the floor hard, scraping her hands, but she's inside. She hears Hannah shut the door, hears the thing snarling at them from the other side.]
God. Shit.
[She gets up, breathing heavily, shaking as she dusts off her jeans -- goddamn expensive jeans, too. But at least they're not torn up.]
Han-- are you-- are you okay?
[What a stupid question. Hannah is here. Hannah is alive.]
God, Hannah, I-- I'm so sorry.
[Her voice cracks a little, tears stinging at her eyes. Emily's a bitch, sure, but she's not a murderer.]
