TEST DRIVE MEME #5
Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open January 25th, and apps are open February 1st.
Two quick points here as well:1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!
Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R
SCENARIO ONE: HERE KITTY KITTY
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.
Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something on the rooftops watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to separate you from your group and tear you into pieces. This time, the Door has brought in coeurls, from the video game Final Fantasy X for you meet.
These cat-like monsters can use elemental magic to attack, as well as their teeth and claws. When injured, they can cast a spell that will drain energy from their attacker and give it to them - and they are even able to temporarily petrify you. So if you decide to fight, let's hope you can finish them off quick!]
SCENARIO TWO: BURIED ALIVE
[What a wonderful day to find yourself - or a friend, or a stranger - buried six feet under. Covered in thick earth, the sturdy oak walls of the coffin trapping you in darkness, all alone. Not a soul to hear any cries of help.
Either you're in a coffin yourself, trapped, hoping for rescue, or you've got a GPS, a set of coordinates, and a shovel. Will you try to claw your way out of your possible grave, using only your bare hands and pure terror? Or will you be the one digging, hoping that down below is someone you love, waiting for you to unearth them?
Just don't take too long. Their air - your air - could run out at any moment.
This is a mini version of our Buried Alive event this month!]
R A G E
SCENARIO THREE: PET PEEVED
[Everything seems to be going just wrong enough to drive you right up the wall. Maybe your shoes keep coming untied, or you slammed your finger in the door while you were leaving the house. Maybe your friend keeps using the wrong form of 'your/you're' when they text you. Maybe that guy in the shop with you won't get off his damn phone.
Whatever it is, your day has been full of tiny annoyances, enough to leave you on edge and just about ready to explode. They're such little things, nothing that should inspire so much anger, but one after another - well, shouldn't anyone understand why you're mad?
And then someone else comes along, perfectly primed to push your buttons. Maybe they keep pronouncing your name wrong, or they won't stop staring at your scar, or they have hair just the right color to remind you of your last ex. You're already primed for a fight, and they seem just as pissed as you. What will you do?]
T'alabali Wazi (WoL OC) | Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward | Here Kitty Kitty
[A normal person or adventurer would actually try their best to fight the feline beasts and run away as soon as possible. However, no one in this place knew T'alabali and how she handled such challenges. Neither did the coeurl because it was currently trying to buck the miqo'te summoner off its back.]
Down boy!
[It was said with a little laugh but given everything she had gone through lately, a big shocker kitty was nothing. It wasn't like she was defenseless or anything. In fact, the creature tried to bite her and she opened up her grimoire, a blasting spell hitting him in the face.]
I said down!
no subject
[When Rainier first comes upon her on the cat's back, his first thought is that she needs backup, especially the way she's blasting it in the face with magic. At the same time, he didn't make his way to rank in the army by being rash and not looking over the field of battle, first.]
... Maker's breath - are you breaking that in to ride it?
Okie dokie, all good!
Mayhap...
[He probably can't hear it due to her mouth being covered but it certainly sounds like it. The kitty certainly didn't like being hit and its whiskers start to spark.]
no subject
... Miss, I really think that thing's going to get ugly soon - [He doesn't want to attack it while she's on it but it looks ready to start some shit.]
no subject
It's at least weakened and can't move as swiftly. But it won't hold.
no subject
[Rainier's armor and sword and shield isn't just for show and he readies the both, now that he doesn't risk hitting her as well.]
Any weak spots I should know about?
[Since she seems familiar with it. Otherwise he's just going to go for it.]
no subject
No particular spots but it favors lightning. Mayhap if we brought it around water it may make the beast prone to its own attacks...
no subject
So color him surprised when he sees one such riding the back of a coeurl as if her intent were to make it into a suitable mount! However, what with being a bit of a trainer of chocobos, he knows well where the flaw in her breaking in lies; but most paramount is the fact that these coeurls are likely not ones that are tamable.
Especially when assaulted by magic to its face.]
—My lady!
[Quickly as ever, he has made his way over, but staying far enough away so that he might not be so haphazardly mauled by the distressed feline.]
Pray dismount the beast so that it may yet be laid low!
[He has his hand on his sword's hilt, cracked shield already on his arm. She may also see the distinct hole in his chainmail that has yet to be mended. Unfortunately for both of them, Haurchefant seems to not recall her with any familiarity—the cost of dying, or perhaps being brought into another world entirely.
To him, she is but a miqo'te he has never met before, and naught much more.]
Oh hello~! And I need to make a more shocked icon ;;
!
[Her voice suddenly dies when she tries calling out his name and that's enough to get the big cat bucking again. This time Tala is distracted enough for her to fly off and roll on the ground. Unfortunately she loses grip on her book and it spins out her reach. Dammit why didn't she stick with Puglist training?!]
Getting icons can be such a pain with FFXIV but it can be done!
Not to mention the fact she is now unarmed.]
Look out—!
[He calls as he rushes forward, putting himself between her and the coeurl just as the beast turns to attack the miqo'te that was causing it such distress. With his sword drawn, he parries the claws of the beast, deflecting the attack with no short measure of skill. Causing the feline to stumble back—though it catches its balance in the next moment, growling at the elezen.
He stands at the ready with both shield and sword, his eyes transfixed on the feline as it stares him down in reply, neither making a move.]
Quickly—pray arm yourself so that we may yet slay this monster together!
This is true!
A lot of the time it's just awkward in the middle of a battle.
Haurchefant speaks and she sees her grimoire near, sprinting as fast as she can to grab it. It'll take too long to summon an egi and she doesn't have enough aether gathering in her body to go into the Dreadwyrm Trance; the best she can do is send a Bio spell to weaken the big cat first.
He is right about needing to slay this together but Tala can at least play her part in it.]
F-forgive me.
no subject
The force alone makes the beast nearly topple over, blood coating his silver blade as well as the ground in a splatter. Roaring in pain, the coeurl replies in kind, desperately charging its whiskers with electricity before shooting a blast off at Haurchefant.]
Halone protect me—
[He says it all too quickly as he brings up his tattered shield to blunt the force of it. Were his shield in better condition, it very well may have done what he was hoping, but alas it sends him stumbling backwards from the force, and does little to stop the shock of the attack.
With Haurchefant properly stunned, the Coeurl (though slowed by its wounds) takes the time to rush at the elezen, surely with the intent to pounce upon him if given the chance.]
no subject
Without a warning and to the coeurl's surprise, she thrusts her book out as a beacon of light shoots out and hits the beast with a Fester. And to make sure, she pulls out her quill and proceeds to write in the air as a dome of light surrounds the beast.
...ok, that might have been a bit overkill but she has a reason for doing so.]
Can...can you stand?
[Her voice shakes but her hand extends out. Did she just save a dream...or mayhap a primal?]
no subject
By the time he has regained his wits, Tala is offering him a hand. He smiles up at her, taking it with his own, rising to his feet with her aid.]
Aye, that I can, though little would I be able to had you not stopped that coeurl dead in its tracks.
[Though he looks a touch bashful for a moment.]
Here I had come to offer you mine aid, but it looks as though 'twas I who needed yours. I thank you, Lady—
[He lets that trail a bit, as if an invitation for her to introduce herself.]
no subject
You...don't remember me?
[It's easy to scream and cry at the sudden revelation but where would that go in the end? Here she is talking to a dead man and things are not making sense. But when did her life make any sense since stepping into Ul'dah that day? It's not like she can say that she's been a ward of his family for a bit and that she was there when he was stricken down by the Heavens Ward. ]
no subject
...Pray forgive me, but scant can I recall our meeting...
[He brings a hand to his chin as he strains his mind further, closing his eyes as he tries to remember, despite already figuring it a hopeless endeavor.]
It would seem since arriving here my memories have suffered so... I do apologize for what distress their frailty may be causing you.
no subject
It's alright, you have no fault in what happened.
[As for her, she tries to put on a small smile for him. She'll be okay!]
Besides, you told me before that a smile better suits someone like me.
[Oh she remembers what exactly was said at the Vault but that might be too much for him. Probably.]
no subject
His eyes open suddenly, and he's left staring at her in a mixture of disbelief and confusion. Is it—could it truly be..? He knows full well what he said to his dearest friend, his last request so that he might die seeing the one he cared so deeply for, who he waxed lyrical over time and time again, smiling.
His voice dies in his throat as his mouth opens to say something—anything, but the words won't come out. How could he have forgotten who she was, what she looked like, and if this really truly was her... why then was she still so unfamiliar to him?
After a moment's struggle, he finds his voice. Tentatively and soft:]
Is it true—are you truly the Warrior of Light?
[He wants to believe it, but at the same time he finds himself wary. Fear was a cruel god indeed, and he wonders if this might be one of his tricks. After all, last thing he would want is for his dear friend to be subjected to this realm when she had more important duties to attend.]
no subject
That's what most like to refer me as but I don't think of myself as that mighty; I'm still an adventurer who just does what is right and help her home. It's better to hear T'alabali or Tala but that's only my own thoughts.
[She looks around just in case there are more creatures ready to attack them both.]
Mayhap we should continue somewhere else? It would be unwise if more of the creatures' friends decide to show up.
Whoops sorry for the delay!
—Aye, we should not linger here any longer than what's truly necessary. Lady T'alabali, pray follow me.
[He does his own scan of the area, before gesturing for her to follow. At least the walk to the spire will give him time to think and consider. He is still feeling wary, and waiting for any moment she may prove some sort of hallucination, or other dreadful thing Fear might have conjured to torment him, but until then, he will take the chance she might be exactly who she claims herself to be.]
s-same ;; do you accept hot cocoa?
You know, for very good reasons.]
My thanks. If I may...where exactly are we?
[Is she stuck in a dream world or some place in between the realms? Tala couldn't tell.]
