TEST DRIVE MEME #5

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open January 25th, and apps are open February 1st.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: HERE KITTY KITTY
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something on the rooftops watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to separate you from your group and tear you into pieces. This time, the Door has brought in coeurls, from the video game Final Fantasy X for you meet.

These cat-like monsters can use elemental magic to attack, as well as their teeth and claws. When injured, they can cast a spell that will drain energy from their attacker and give it to them - and they are even able to temporarily petrify you. So if you decide to fight, let's hope you can finish them off quick!]

SCENARIO TWO: BURIED ALIVE
[What a wonderful day to find yourself - or a friend, or a stranger - buried six feet under. Covered in thick earth, the sturdy oak walls of the coffin trapping you in darkness, all alone. Not a soul to hear any cries of help.

Either you're in a coffin yourself, trapped, hoping for rescue, or you've got a GPS, a set of coordinates, and a shovel. Will you try to claw your way out of your possible grave, using only your bare hands and pure terror? Or will you be the one digging, hoping that down below is someone you love, waiting for you to unearth them?

Just don't take too long. Their air - your air - could run out at any moment.

This is a mini version of our Buried Alive event this month!]

R A G E

SCENARIO THREE: PET PEEVED
[Everything seems to be going just wrong enough to drive you right up the wall. Maybe your shoes keep coming untied, or you slammed your finger in the door while you were leaving the house. Maybe your friend keeps using the wrong form of 'your/you're' when they text you. Maybe that guy in the shop with you won't get off his damn phone.

Whatever it is, your day has been full of tiny annoyances, enough to leave you on edge and just about ready to explode. They're such little things, nothing that should inspire so much anger, but one after another - well, shouldn't anyone understand why you're mad?

And then someone else comes along, perfectly primed to push your buttons. Maybe they keep pronouncing your name wrong, or they won't stop staring at your scar, or they have hair just the right color to remind you of your last ex. You're already primed for a fight, and they seem just as pissed as you. What will you do?]

[Well that sure takes the wind out of Emily's sails for a second. Not that Ashley isn't chickenshit enough that she won't be cowering either way if Emily yells at her, but what's the point, if Ashley won't be able to think about that same moment, won't be forced to face her mistake and regret it?]

Did you tell her what happened? If not, I have no problem bringing her up to speed with what a bitch she turned out to be.

[Yes, that would be the point. It doesn't matter that Ashley didn't make it that far into the night before coming here. It happened. It still would've happened.

Just like how they all survived in the end.

Oh god. That means--]

Matt's all right?

[Matt made it back safely. He survived whatever he faced after trying and failing to help her as she dangled from the tower. Matt, the only person she can really trust anymore, after all the things she'd said to him that night.]

How-- How was he, after everything? Was he hurt?

Ash got kind of the quick version of everything.

[It had been difficult to retell the story, let alone all the details of it, and it had been most important that Ashley knew about Josh being behind everything and about the wendigos. She didn't need to know anything unnecessary that would only make things worse for her.

And at Emily's next questions he again pauses, though he doesn't look at her this time. There's no good answer to this.]

I don't know, Em. He wasn't with us, so...

[So he doesn't know. It's possible Matt is still alive; surely the police would be going back to look for him, and for Jessica and Josh even though he's pretty sure both of them are dead. Maybe Matt made it though, he just... Doesn't know.

Finally, he turns back around to face her, abandoning his search for food for the moment.]

You and me, Mike, Sam, and Ash made it out. That's... That's all I know for sure.

[He's quiet again for another few seconds.]

I'm really sorry.

[It's a different apology than before, because this isn't something actually his fault, but he really does wish he could tell her something different. Even just knowing for certain that Matt--or Jess, or Josh--were dead would be better than just being left to wonder.]

[And almost getting Emily shot hadn't been part of the quick version. Nice one, jackass. She'll fill Ashley in on that bit, don't worry.

The news -- or the lack of news -- about Matt drains away the brief influx of hope from just a moment ago. He has to be alive. He has to be. If he isn't--]

I should've-- [Tried harder. Been nicer. Treated him better. Told him how important he is, how much he means to her.

She will. She'll get her chance. He has to be alive.

Shit, Jess wasn't with them, either? Sure, Emily could fight with her forever for what she did, but they were friends. She isn't supposed to die until she's old and wrinkly. And Josh-- Josh isn't allowed to die or disappear until each and every one of them tells him his bullshit pranks had gone too far on the mountain. Maybe until everyone had been given the chance to slap him, too.]

Shit.

[Chris watches her reaction, quiet; he wants to do something to help, but what can anyone really do in a situation like this? Again it crosses his mind--as it has often recently--that they shouldn't be in this situation. None of this should've ever happened at all.

But it did.]

Yeah.

['Shit' about sums it up.]

And um... Please, Em, don't tell Josh that we don't...

[Don't know if he's alive or not. Chris is pretty sure he isn't, after what Mike said; he's already accepted it, but hasn't said anything to Josh about it. They're not speaking all that much anyway.]
unfollowing: (whatever)

[personal profile] unfollowing 2016-02-05 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, no. None of this should've happened. They shouldn't have come back to the mountain this year. They should've noticed Josh was a bit off in the last month or so.

They shouldn't have played that stupid prank on Hannah.

Chris's request pulls her from that train of thought, from looking back on things they can't change. Here and now there's a whole other mess to deal with, and there's time to think ahead.

And thinking ahead to seeing the others who made it here gets her focused again. Emily narrows her eyes, brow furrowed with the anger still burning inside her.]

The only thing I want to tell Josh is how much of a shitstain he is.

[Besides, she doesn't want him dead. And she refuses to believe that he doesn't make it through the night. He and Matt and Jessica have to be alive. They just have to be.]

[personal profile] thechoiceisyours 2016-02-06 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
[That's about as much of an agreement as he was expecting, and he just gives a small noise of irritation in response; not at her, specifically, but...]

Yeah, good luck with that.

[Josh is still his friend, and Chris doesn't want anything bad to happen to him, but he's also still angry. But it's not even anger, not really--it's hurt and betrayal and frustration--but it's so much easier to be quietly furious than deal with the real problem.

It would be different if he thought Josh was even slightly sorry for what he did, but he doesn't.]
unfollowing: (it was just a prank)

[personal profile] unfollowing 2016-02-06 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
What's that supposed to mean?

[Not that it matters. Pretty much nothing that anyone could say to her will deter Emily from telling Josh off. And Ashley, for that matter. She doesn't know which one of them she wants to run into first. It doesn't really matter.]
thechoiceisyours: (Default)

[personal profile] thechoiceisyours 2016-02-06 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean I don't think it's going to be very satisfying. He's from like, before everything happened, and when I told him we all knew about it he just kept asking if it turned out as 'amazing' as he'd planned.

[Which had been simultaneously infuriating and nauseating.]

So yeah. Not gonna get through to him much.
unfollowing: (whatever)

[personal profile] unfollowing 2016-02-07 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Okay, she's got to admit, Chris is right. Not right enough to change the fact that she's going to yell at Josh anyway, but still.]

I'll tell him exactly how amazing it all turned out.

[Because if anyone can get the point of a good fuck you, you asshole across, it's Emily. Even if it's not as satisfying as it could be.

All of this is what finally lets Emily start to feel how tired she is from last night, from winding up in this weird place with its magical cats, from yelling at Chris. She goes over to the nearest chair (the design of which is about as weird as that of the rest of the house), and sits.

It's more comfortable than she thought it'd be. She shifts a little, settling in for a long, relaxing break from standing and running and falling.]

So there's food and water here, if you've been here really long. What about first aid supplies? [The bite may not be infectious, but it can still get infected.]
thechoiceisyours: (Default)

[personal profile] thechoiceisyours 2016-02-09 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Emily is definitely special that way, and even though Chris doubts her yelling at Josh will do anyone any good he's not interested in even trying to deter her further.

He's happy to shift the subject, and at the question he nods.]

Yeah. Not a lot of it, but we've got some. There's a clinic here too that's run by like, an actual doctor so...

[That might be a better idea in the long run, but since there are horrible giant cats running around making do for now is probably the right way to go.]

I'll get what we have though; I'll be right back.

[He figures she'd like to stay sitting for now.]
unfollowing: (it was just a prank)

[personal profile] unfollowing 2016-02-09 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's a talent.

She is, in fact, going to stay sitting for a while. She's been through a lot, okay? Almost getting killed several times in several ways by several people (or monsters) takes a lot out of you. Not to mention being bitten by a monster and everything else that happened in the mines.]

Hurry up. [she calls to Chris as he goes to get the supplies.

It's how she shows gratitude.

In the meantime, she pulls the strap of the satchel with the flares over her head and sets the thing on the table. When Chris returns, she will greet him with]
What took you so long? [because that's how she shows her appreciation.]
thechoiceisyours: (Default)

[personal profile] thechoiceisyours 2016-02-10 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
[He totally ignores her first comment because he likes to think he speaks pretty good Emily at this point, and even if she were someone else complaining it's not really in his nature to make anything of it. It's not far to the bathroom where they keep the medical supplies, and he returns a minute or two later and sets the little box they're using as a first aid kit on the table.

Her second comment gets a sassy response, but a good-natured one.]

Oh, you know. Had to battle one of the flying snakes that live in our air vents on my way.

[Place is lousy with monsters and all. He manages a tiny grin to make it obvious he's joking though, before beginning to dig through the supplies to figure out what they have and what would work best for Emily's injuries.

He should probably redo the bandages on his fingers while he's at it, but that can wait.]
unfollowing: (sass with a dash of salt)

[personal profile] unfollowing 2016-02-10 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[At his response, Emily arches a perfectly shaped eyebrow at him.] Wow, Chris. So manly.

[But there's the barest hint of a smile on her face. It's kind of funny, now that they're not in danger.

As he sifts through the kit, she lifts a hand to her shoulder, pressing on the bite through the fabric of her shirt. It's ruined already, torn and dirty from the madness on the mountain. What's a little more blood? She winces. The bite hurts, but it's not as bad as it could be, all things considered.

It's only now, when she glances at the first aid kit, that she notices Chris's injuries. Well, that's a lie. She'd noticed them earlier, but he'd seemed okay, and she'd had more important things to do, like escaping almost certain death and yelling at him.]

What happened to you?
thechoiceisyours: (❄ ɪ'ᴍ ᴀʟʟ ᴀʟᴏɴᴇ)

[personal profile] thechoiceisyours 2016-02-10 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
You know me, Em. Super manly all the time.

[Just another day in the life of the guy whose voice totally doesn't approach the same pitch as a fourteen year old girl when he's even slightly startled. Not that he really cares; he'll leave the macho stuff to Mike and Matt no problem.

Okay, looks like they have enough stuff to at least clean out the bite would if not bandage it; he's not super sure how one would do such a thing anyway with where it's located. Hopefully it doesn't need stitches, but if it does they can probably wait to get done at the clinic once it's safe to go out.

He's about to start suggesting what to do first when Emily asks her question, and it gives him pause a moment. He doesn't want to tell her--she's got enough to worry about--but lying to her would be absolutely pointless since she'd see right through it. Besides, she deserves to know what kind of things happen here.

Chris keeps his attention on pulling pieces of newly washed fabric for bandages out of the kit and folding them unnecessarily, so he has something to look at besides her when he response.]

It's uh... I'm okay. Some messed up stuff just happens here.

[Which is par for the course for them at this point, really.]

A few days ago like, half the people here woke up buried alive in coffins.
unfollowing: (listening)

[personal profile] unfollowing 2016-02-10 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, this is going to be kind of awkward. Her shirt may be a mess, but Emily doesn't want to destroy it much further. There are already tears in it around the wound from the wendigo's fangs (ew), so getting to the bite won't be too bad. But Chris might still have to cut some more fabric away. At that point, she may as well just take her shirt off. Honestly, though, if she could, she would clean it herself, but she hasn't got much of a choice.

The first part of his answer earns him a frown. No shit. There are monster cats outside, and these buildings look ridiculous.

But then he tells her what actually happened, and her eyes go wide.]
What the hell? How?

[And then, only a moment later, when her mind finishes processing the magnitude of what he's said--] Were you buried?
thechoiceisyours: (❄ ᴍʏ ʙᴏᴅʏ ᴀᴄʜᴇs)

[personal profile] thechoiceisyours 2016-02-10 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[He'll just let her do whatever she's comfortable with as far as getting to the injury goes, though they do have a terrible pair of scissors if she wants to go the route of just cutting the hole wider.]

How uh... How do you want to do this?

[He asks first, as a distraction from actually answering, but finally gives a small shrug.]

'How' is kind of crazy, but I guess nothing's that crazy after wendigos, right? There're these guys here that say they're gods and get energy from our emotions or whatever. Fear thought burying people would be a great way to get a pick me up.

[And he wasn't wrong. There's another brief pause before he decides how to answer the last question.]

Yeah. Me and Sam. Josh and Ash were out, though; they found Sam, and this guy called Beyond got to me.
unfollowing: (listening)

[personal profile] unfollowing 2016-02-10 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[She has had enough time to think about this, and you know what? Fuck it. It's the easiest way, and it'll be funny if he squirms.]

I'm taking my top off. You're not going to faint seeing so much skin, are you? [asked with full sarcasm and all of that.

She slides her coat off as he starts to answer, ready to agree about nothing being genuinely weird after being chased by wendigos (with an eloquent and succinct "no shit"), but the second he says "gods", she reconsiders that assessment. She's never been sure of God as she's learned of from living in the US. There being more than one is straight-up bullshit, right? It's supposed to be.

But then again, curses and wendigos were supposed to be bullshit, but look how that had turned out.]

Goddamn.

[To all of that. Gods that feed off emotions, Sam and Chris being buried alive (what the fuck, Fear), Josh and Ashley actually doing something useful for once.

Goddamn.]

So what happened to your hand?

[There's room to make another jab about manliness, but for once, she saves it. She has class, okay?]
thechoiceisyours: (Default)

[personal profile] thechoiceisyours 2016-02-10 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll try not to.

[He politely averts his gaze toward the ceiling while she starts taking off clothing, trying to keep his blushing to a minimum while he does so. Talking about the event definitely helps keep a somber expression on his face, and he's glad he had a good excuse to just stare off into space.

The explanation he gives to her question is very short, but should get the point across well enough.]

Wood's really hard.

[He'd kept his calm most of the event, but it was pretty impossible to avoid at least one for of panic in the three days he'd been trapped. A few broken nails and scuffed up knuckles are a lot better than a lot of people had ended up.]
unfollowing: (sass with a dash of salt)

[personal profile] unfollowing 2016-02-10 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Too easy, Chris. Too easy. Emily may be smirking a little as she drapes her jacket over the empty chair next to her. Steeling herself for a bit of extra pain (or discomfort at least), she pulls off her shirt, hissing a short stream of curses as the fabric that had been sticking to the bite tugs at the skin when it peels away.

This is a little less casual than wearing a two-piece to the beach, but it's not enough to faze her. Especially not when she shoots a glance at Chris, who is dutifully looking away.]

Okay. You can look. Not that you're going to see anything. Jesus. You know what a bra looks like, right?

[(Hers is beige, by the way. The lacy ones, alas, are still on the mountain.)

She rolls her eyes, listening and making all the right assumptions that his little explanation leads her to. She hates thinkin about it -- it was bad being lost in the mines, but she could walk, she had light, she wasn't really confined. Chris was--

Ugh, god. Fear sure as hell knew what he was doing.]

How long was it before they found you?

[She's kind of scared to hear the answer, which of course means she looks more annoyed than anything else.]
thechoiceisyours: (❄ ʀᴜɴɴɪɴɢ sᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ)

[personal profile] thechoiceisyours 2016-02-11 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[The real tragedy of Until Dawn is the loss of Emily's lingerie. While she's taking off her shirt Chris steps over to the sink to get a cloth wet; he only sort of knows what he's doing, but surely cleaning out any dirt or bits of fabric that might be in the wound is a good step.

When Emily tells him he can look he very carefully looks at her face, and then down to her shoulder which looks... Well, it could be worse of course, but he still winces a bit on her behalf.

Her first question prompts him to look her in the eye again, so he can give her a properly unimpressed look.]

Of course I do, geez. Doesn't mean staring at a girl is cool.

[Also tv may or may not be the only place he's ever seen a woman in a bra.

Returning his focus to dealing with the bite, he carefully begins to dab at the injury and surrounding skin with the cloth, mostly to at first be at least able to see what they're dealing with. It's a good distraction while he answers.]

About three days.

[So true, though. That particular set had cost a few hundreds, fit just right.]

Oh, honey, don't lie. It's not a good look on you.

[She almost offers him a Victoria's Secret catalogue, except she doesn't have one (she shops at much better stores, thank you), and she's yanked from those thoughts when he starts to clean the wound.]

Ow, fuck! Gently, you idiot.

[It doesn't actually hurt that much, but better he be too careful. Also, she hasn't actually seen it, so she's not sure of the magnitude of the bite, and therefore exaggerating is the one true way.

Emily wants to believe that he's exaggerating, too, but he's not. No one would joke about something like that. Well, maybe Josh would. But not Chris.]

That long? Shit, Chris. What about Sam?
thechoiceisyours: (Default)

[personal profile] thechoiceisyours 2016-02-11 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, you didn't ask if I'd seen one in person on a person.

[Geez, Emily. It's a good thing he's not super insecure about the subject, though he doesn't always appreciate the teasing either.

When she yelps he lurches back, half afraid he hurt her and half just on reflex, but once he realizes it's just Emily being Emily he sighs and goes back to what he's doing.]

You got bit by a monster, Em. There's only so much being gentle's going to help.

[It's just going to hurt, though he really does hope it's not truly that bad. He has to think about her question a moment, everything about the event kind of blending together, but...]

Yeah. I think it was like two or two and a half for Sam. We're both okay, just...

[It had been a pretty awful experience. Still, no lasting physical harm done, except for some scrapes and bruises.]

Ooo, got me on a technicality. You want a trophy for that?

[Cue heavy eyeroll.]

A monster with razors for teeth, swear to god.

[But she grits her teeth and bears it. It's not so bad now that she's getting used to the temperature of the water and the texture of the cloth against the mix of raw flesh and torn skin that makes up the injury.

All of which she'll take over being buried alive for that long, any day.

What the hell do you even say to that. Jesus.]

Glad it's over. [Glad she missed it, too.] Hope it doesn't happen again.

[She's quiet for a few moments, wincing as Chris works, thinking about how fucked up life has been since that night last year. All the death and guilt and anger, the weird tangle of emotions from that stupid prank and the breakup and Jess goddamn betraying her. All this shit from last night, and al that's happened here even before she arrived.]

What's worse, being here or being on the mountain?

Nah, it's cool. I can just enjoy my moment of victory.

[The bantering is a nice contrast to the rest of the conversation, keeping his thoughts from drifting too far at some of her words. Razors for teeth, yeah, probably; razors for claws, definitely.]

Yeah, me too.

[Something else totally messed up might--and probably will--happen, but hopefully not that again.

He's making progress in cleaning up the dried blood and getting a better look at the injury, but he's not entirely sure what to do from there. Just cover it? They have some disinfectant and that's probably a good idea, but he's not sure Emily's going to be too excited about how much that'll sting.

Despite his focus, her question gets an immediate answer.]

[Emily will never admit it, but Chris isn't bad company when he's not voting her out into certain death.]

So how bad is it? How ugly will the scar be? [How much is it going to cost to get it as erased as possible? Or should she leave it there to remind her of what she saw in the mines, of how she contributed to it, to Beth being dug out of her grave and Hannah ending up who knows where as she starved to death?]

“Nothing to fear but fear itself.” [She scoffs.] Bring it on, fucker.
