test drive meme # 26

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open November 24th, and apps are open December 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

This time, the monsters are a bit more transparent, as the Door will bring in a few skeletons! Skeletons often accompany the fear of death and can such be found as entry-level monsters in many different stories and games of all kinds.

Skeletons are well... skeletons.... but they move around like they're still alive. Some of them use weapons to make you fear death by killing you, which is cool for them I suppose. They're not particularly smart and they can be tricked very easily, but once they hone in on a victim they won't rest until they make everyone else just as dead as they are.]

SCENARIO TWO: SQUAD GOALS
[Hey, look to the guy or gal to the left or right side of you. Did you guys just become best friends?
I think you did! For the next little while, you find yourself entering into these odd platonic relationships you'd never considered before. That guy who you kind of awkwardly made eye contact with at the grocery store last week? Best friends! The lady who's friends with your roommate's sister? Inseparable pals!

This event, based off of our recent event of the same name inspires you and all your weird facebook acquaintances to suddenly feel like you're best buds. You guys will share everything together, do everything together, and just generally think the world of one another. Enjoy your new and beautiful friendship!]

S O R R O W

SCENARIO THREE: INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS
[You know that voice deep in the back of your head that you generally ignore? You know, the one that tells you that you're stupid or worthless or that you should push that old lady into traffic? Well, usually you ignore them- we know you do, because you're a decent person who doesn't experience that kind of self doubt.

Now, though, all those little voices seem to have some merit. You're not sure why, but suddenly just giving into your weirdest impulses sounds like a good idea. You'll have to fight even harder to ignore them, particularly the ones that tell you to do something. What would that guy do if you just up and punched him in the face? What about if you just broke that chick's window? You'll have to find out!

Alternatively, all those thoughts about how lame you are and how you'll never succeed at anything are a bit more believable too. Hopefully you don't have too many of those- but hey, if you do then you can always drown your sorrows away at the local bar!]

Elizabeth blinks, before channeling energy through her cards and tossing them as if they were dancing lasers at the skeletons. Were not all means of divination magical? What an odd question, does this mortal no... Of course not, he probably lacked the potential and the awakening, and she really didn't have time to go through a lecture.

"They are the portals to my first guest's soul."

Shrugging as they reappeared in her hand and stepping aside as Thanatos roared a ghastly wail and charged into the skeletons with its sword she looked over at Tim, "Why, are you a wizard?"

Portals to a soul ... OK then. Is it weird that this is actually not the strangest thing Tim's ever heard of? That's a question he'll have to ponder at another time; there's a skeleton shuffling toward him with a sword in hand, swinging wildly, and Elizabeth seems to have things more or less under control from her end, so Tim focuses more of his attention on not getting chopped.

"Only when it comes to computers!" he calls over his shoulder, grabbing for the skeleton's sword-handed wrist to block the downward swing.

"Then let loose the electric faeries! Let loose all to stop this and protect the great seal!"

Sadly, Elizabeth still is a bit vague on what exactly computers do, but still, she's enthusiastic as she fights in her rather overly enthused style.

Batman would find her style too unfocused, and not with enough gadgets. Superman would find her philosophy on collateral damage to be a bit disturbing. Wonder Woman would be fine with everything but the giant avatar of death buzzing around her ripping skeletons in half. The JLI as a whole would simply say "Wow, that's how Jonn fights if you take away his chocos."

Tim can only make sense of a fraction of what Elizabeth says, but enthusiasm for fighting is something he can definitely appreciate. The only computer he's got on him is the tech in his gauntlet, and from the looks of these skeletons, he's guessing it's not practical to try using it against his opponents, so no, he won't be unleashing any electric faeries at this time, but thanks for the encouragement all the same.

There's nothing soft on a skeleton to cushion the blow of punching, so Tim's careful to do more grabbing and throwing work than landing actual strikes against the skeleton that is the most immediate threat. With expert precision, he wrests the sword out of its bony hand and slides his foot behind the skeleton's bare ankles while pushing backward on its rib cage. The skeleton topples over backwards, and Tim jab the pointed end of the sword through its ribs and into the ground underneath it, pinning it in place.

"What seal and where is it?" Please don't say the great seal again, Elizabeth. Tim needs more information.

Where is it, explaining the collective unconsciousness of mankind to one who has not signed a contract in the middle of a fight is probably something she shouldn't be doing. Also it was an endeavor that was almost as difficult as making an airport look pretty, so it was definitely not a thing that Elizabeth decided was a good thing to do. Still, she had to say something.

"Thanatos!"

With that her persona flew to her and circled above her as she shouted, "I bring you MEGIDOLAON!" as allmighty energy crackled around her towards the skeletons.

"The great seal is near where one signs a contract for power like that."

The more she talks, the more her explanation sounds a lot like word salad to Tim's ears, but Elizabeth seems to be fighting the monsters and not harming anyone else, so that's good enough. The energy blast is a little startling, but it's damn effective; once the dust settles a little, Tim makes his way back toward her, scanning the arena for additional threats. Are any skeletons still up and at 'em?

"You sign a contract for power like that?" That's. Not the usual way for the metahumans Tim's used to dealing with, but hey, they're clearly not in Gotham anymore.

Tim, you really need to talk with fewer metahumans, aliens, and street levels and hang out with the magical heroes more. They could blather one and on to you on the various subtle ways that magic gets in the hands of people. Still Thanatos is flying off, eating (yes eating) the last few skeletons as she shrugs a bit.

"How else would one be held accountable for what they used such power for? Even as an outlier I did not obtain this power for free. Is that not how it is everywhere, or are the rules of the game different here?"
