Test Drive Meme #27

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open December 25th, and apps are open January 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: DON'T FEED THE WILDLIFE
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

This time, the monsters are very large and very scary, with the crocodiles from Lake Placid, a 1999 movie that was about... well, giant crocodiles.

These critters are massive, measuring over 20 feet in length and full of raw power. They're capable of taking down bears, eating full cows, and decapitating unsuspecting victims. Despite their size, they are quite fast and could definitely take someone by surprise with their quick movement. Look out for those formerly-still ponds, they back a serious bite...]

A L L

SCENARIO TWO: SHINING, SHIMMERING, SPLASHING
[Everyone's gotta drink sometimes and when you're in a new environment, that dehydration is kicking in double. Unfortunately, the water in Hadriel right now is... tainted. Nothing about it tastes particularly off, but one drink of it and you'll find yourself with strange and unusual powers. These abilities aren't necessarily gamechangers, and they aren't the full power, but they're definitely there at your fingertips.

Give your friends nightmares, give your enemies a super strong punch to the jaw- the sky is the limit, but be careful for when it wears off and those you've affected seek their revenge with their own water-powered abilities. Maybe you should find the memory erasing pond...

This is a mini event, based off of our shining, shimmering, splashing event going on this month!]

S O R R O W

SCENARIO THREE: HAIR OF THE DOG
[Were you partying last night, or are the gods just exceptionally cruel? Either way, you have what seems to be a killer hangover. Stomachaches, headaches, and general feeling like the undead- it's all happening and you're feeling the worst of it.

You're welcome to try and attempt your own hangover cures, but little seems to alleviate this. It just takes time, and maybe a friend or two to rub your back and make some food for you- that is, if you can keep it down. Or maybe your friends are in the same boat as you are and you need to commiserate. Either way, you're in for a hell of a day.

Maybe just take it easy for awhile.]

At least he managed not to get sick, but he did have to close his eyes when the entire world actually did start moving without him. Some more warning next time please, Seel. But seeing as there was not uch that Swift could do while he was being carried, he just tried to focus on breathing and ignoring how much his head hurt.

It didn't work very well.

Things were much better when he was on the ground again. Or at the least he felt less likely to make things worse.

"Thank you. I don't...I don't know what happened."

Your consort was really trying not to laugh, Swift. But you were young and adorable and did he mention he almost forgot he married a child? A child who barely understood the ins and outs of humanity and if you were human, he would have been arrested. But thankfully you were not human and right now was just one of the many ways you were showing it. It was so cute. He helped him a little ways into the house and then onto the couch.

"Why don't you sit, I'll get you some water. How much did you have to drink?" And thanks for not getting sick all over him, Seel really appreciated that.

"Let me guess. Your head hurts, your dizzy, nauseous, the light hurts? Am I getting close?" Seel went to the kitchen to get a glass of water (all by himself!) and pressed it into Swift's hand.

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-21 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sitting was good. Sitting he could do. It didn't do much--like everything else--but it was better than having the risk of falling over. He blinked a few times in complete confusion before he managed to look up at Seel and answered, rather bemusedly.

"Nothing. I didn't drink anything." Why was that even a question? Granted, he'd probably do his fair share of it eventually when he was really trying to forget the things that had just happened to Galhea and his family, but that hadn't started yet.

"Yes, that's exactly it. How do you know?"

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-22 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh. I just figured you found something really, really strong." Pity too, Seel would have asked for some.He didn't fancy a hangover, but something that strong had got to be kind of fun. And honestly, he could use fun right now. That way he didn't have to keep remembering what's happened here over the past few months and what was waiting for him back home.

"Sip it slowly. It's called a hangover. Humans used to get it when they drank too much alcohol. " Or when they raided Cal's parents liquor cabinet and drank all her champagne and raspberry cordial. And then the whiskey. That was a very well stocked liquor cabinet. He doubted Cal's parents ever noticed.

"It should go away." Although, considering, he didn't know what caused it, he wasn't exactly certain of that. But there wasn't any point in worrying Swift. "You have to drink though."
swiftlet: (Thought)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-22 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Why?" There probably wasn't an answer for that, but he couldn't help asking either. Humanity was still so very strange to him and it still seemed like he was learning new things about them. This, though, seemed to be about the most useless thing ever. And why would he even be feeling it now? He wasn't human and hadn't been drinking.

He sighed before he took a drink of the water, suddenly rather grateful that it wasn't anything stronger. He probably wouldn't have kept it down.

"This is completely ridiculous."
dreamsallotted: (look right)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-22 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Ag he felt old. Maybe it wasn't that Swift was younger than him, but that he was older than Swift. Old enough to remember being a different species and things like ferris wheels and phones and grape flavored lube.

"Because humans were weak. They couldn't handle the alcohol like a har can. Like most of the toxins in the world. Kind of like how humans get sick and we don't. " He had to admit, it was pretty useless. Seeing Swift like this reminded him how grateful he was to be Wraeththu.

Seel sat down next to Swift, offering a hand and a cuddle, since there wasn't much he could do to help. "I wish I could help. You didn't even get the fun part."
swiftlet: (Leading)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-22 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Swift gladly took both the offered hand and the offered cuddle, but opted to keep his eyes closed for now. Everything hurt and the light in the room was only making it worse. As long as he didn't have to move, though, he was happy. Which really said quite a bit about how badly he was feeling.

At least he wasn't dying. That was a relief. Although he might have expected that response from Seel. It was the truth, certainly, but it was still too easy to pick out Seel's biases in that. He smiled a little and almost laughed except he wasn't going to agitate anything if he could help it.

"It's stupid and I don't like it." Understatement. And also incredibly obvious. "How long does it usually last?"
dreamsallotted: (smirk 2)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-22 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Seel almost shrugged but he didn't want to jostle Swift, and instead stroked his hair. He hoped it wasn't annoying, and remembering his first hangover everything was overwhelming and hurt.

"About a day. I'm sure if we were back home your hostling would be able to whip you up something to make you feel better. But your here and you're stuck with me and all I'm capable of doing is getting water."

Seel almost asked Swift if it felt a little bit like feybraiha, when everything hurt. But, that lead to a whole line of thoughts he didn't want to bring up or give credence. There was too much potential pain with it.

"Do you think if I can find you food, you can eat something?"
swiftlet: (Heir)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-22 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe. If it's light and not too elaborate." Nothing fancy. Bland would have been best, but he didn't want to ask for that outright. Seel seemed to have some experience, anyway, and he could trust that. He nuzzled his face into Seel's chest to block out more of the light and tried to take deep breaths. Maybe if everyone could just be quiet and turn off all the lights for a day or so he'd be fine.

"I think I'd rather die than go through this for an entire day." He wanted to die already and it hadn't even been an hour. How any human experienced this and then decided to keep drinking was beyond him.
dreamsallotted: (smirk 2)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-22 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Seel wrapped his arms around Swift, comforting him like he would Azriel when he didn't feel good during feybraiha (there went those bad thoughts again), and tried to be comforting. He wished he could make it darker for him, but that was hard when there were two suns shining outside.

After a few moments, he detangled himself from him and padded into the kitchen. "Elaborate. What do you think I'm going to find here? A plate full of beef tenderloin with truffle sauce and an amaretto buttercream cake? It's me, not Yarrow." He found a package of crackers in a cupboard and tried one. Eh.

"Don't be such a baby, Swift. Do you have any idea how many times I've been hungover?"
swiftlet: (Find)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-22 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
That was uncalled for and Swift didn't have to go looking for energy to glare. He was not feeling great as it was, and there Seel went being antagonistic for now reason. Pressing his luck. Like always. Swift watched him move to the kitchen and counted to ten. Then did it again. Then gave up and realized he was jut going to be annoyed with everything after that.

"Please don't do this right now. I'm already not in a good mood." He could at least try to pretend to be polite. And if they started fighting now it wouldn't be pretty. Just please, Seel, take the hint.
dreamsallotted: (upset eyes closed)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-22 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Seel scowled, he knew Swift didn't feel good and he wanted to start the damn fight anyway. It felt good, like an itch that he needed to scratch and was finally able too. Taking the damn crackers, he padded back over to the couch and handed them to Swift. Not exactly what they were used too, but it would do.

"What do you want me to say? It's a hangover. You're not dying, you just don't feel good."

Seel really wanted to pick this fight. There was absolutely no reason too, and he just wanted to be a jerk. Even when Swift felt like he was dying he was polite. Seel still didn't know what he did to deserve someone like Swift, who was everything he wasn't.

Scowling, he squeezed his hand into a fist and released it. "Fine. Have a cracker."
swiftlet: (Young)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-22 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you." But his tone was dry and dammit he should be able to make more of an effort than that. At least Seel seemed to have figured out that Swift was not happy with him. That would hopefully get some kind of compliance out of him, if not politeness. He'd been fighting that battle for years and he wasn't about to believe that he'd ever win.

"I've never been sick before now, Seel--my own fault or otherwise. The closest I've ever been before is feybraiha and even then it wasn't nearly as painful as this is now." It was uncomfortable and long and he'd hated it, but it hadn't hurt quite this much. "Just...please. Don't."
dreamsallotted: (upset eyes closed)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-22 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Swift was right. Swift was always right. Seel wasn't sure how he managed that, was it because he was pureborn or was he just always so damn perfect? He rested his head in his hands, trying to let go of the anger he was feeling, control it. Swift didn't deserve this. He was feeling something he hadn't ever felt before and it wasn't fair for Seel to take out his frustration on him. It wasn't his fault. He inhaled and exhaled and then did it again, and again for good measure. And when he felt like he wasn't going to explode he sat back down next to Swift.

"You're right. I'm sorry." Inhale, exhale. "What can I do to help?" Besides not be an ass. He could have figured out that one on his own, it was just a damn struggle to do it sometimes.
swiftlet: (Clouded)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-22 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Swift took the opportunity to try and take some deep breaths himself and calm down. Being angry would make him tense and being tense would hurt. Not to mention the part where he hated when he had to get angry at Seel to make him behave too. Under any other circumstances he may not even have been angry, but...well. These were't other circumstances. They made the best out of what they had.

"I don't know," he finally managed, hiding his face in his hands both so he didn't have to look at Seel and to cover more of the light that was still getting through his now-closed eyes. "I've never done this before. I don't know what helps."
dreamsallotted: (I'm a little upset)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-22 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Drink your water. Eat your crackers."

Seel hadn't had a hangover since he was twelve, which was a really, really long time ago. And it wasn't like they could just run to the medicine cabinet and grab some pain killers. He wasn't sure how to help and he wanted Swift to get better--both so he could feel better and so they could have this damn fight without him feeling guilty about it. Because that was totally a good reason to have a fight.

"Your a har. Whatever this is, it should pass quicker than a human." There, he tried to make you feel better. Being sick was hard. Made worse by Seel not really being the comforting type and feeling ever so frustrated that he couldn't fix this. It wasn't something he could reason away. Or bang with a hammer.
swiftlet: (Call)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-22 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Please don't bang on his with a hammer, Seel. It already felt like someone was doing that inside his head, and he hadn't even done anything to deserve it. Just woke up feeling like hell for no reason. Maybe it was a punishment for something, but he couldn't think what that might have been. He couldn't remember doing anything particularly heinous lately.

He managed for a moment to open his eyes and look up at Seel, frowning, but keeping quiet on why he'd be so angry when no one had done anything to him, but then, that was Seel's default state. It could have been that he saw a brick he didn't like in somebody's wall.

"I can only hope. If this is what happened when humans drank too much I can't believe they ever continued."
dreamsallotted: (all dressed up)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-23 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That at least made Seel smile. It was true. After his first hangover, why had he continued? It was horrible. But, memory fades fast, and getting there was awfully fun. And Cal was such a bad influence. In those days, Seel had been awfully susceptible to his advances and suggestions, padding after him like a lovesick puppy. Seel would have done anything to please him. Too bad he never quite got over this, and it turned into a twisted love-hate relationship he couldn't quite sort out.

And Swift? He hadn't done anything wrong. Seel had to admit, for someone who had never even gotten a cold, he was doing pretty well. It wasn't his fault he was lucky enough to be born second generation and had no knowledge or experience of certain things. It was part of why Seel loved him, what made Swift, Swift.

But it still pissed him off. But most things pissed Seel off.

"It was fun getting there. Keep drinking that water." He offered him a cracker. "Eat." Was that a peace offering?
swiftlet: (Calm)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-23 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The very least Swift could do was accept the cracker Seel was offering. It wasn't an apology, but it was probably the closest he was going to get and he'd learned to live with that. Better than nothing. He took a tentative bite to buy himself some time to think of anything else to say that wouldn't set Seel off again. That was far more challenging than it should have been. Granted, both of the were in a bad mood now, but still, it shouldn't have been so difficult.

Eventually, he just had to go with the the simplest thing he could come up with, and it didn't even really add much.

"Thank you." At least he wasn't being antagonistic, that had to be good for something, right?

"Is that really worth it?"
dreamsallotted: (side glance)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-24 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it was the closest he was going to get at the moment. Seel might apologize later, once he calmed down and steam wasn't coming out of his ears. It was a good thing you were normally so calm and collected, Swift. Even hung over and irritated you were still a saint.

Swift asking his question made him think back. Had it really been worth it? "It sure seemed like it at the time. Liquor, sex." Cal. Even as a human he'd been a good roon. Of course, he'd also been young, and didn't know any better. Maybe it was just a romantic memory of something that wasn't that romantic. "Sneaking around, stealing alcohol from the adults." Honestly, Tyson was like a living flashback.
swiftlet: (Travel)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-24 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll bet." He hadn't meant for his tone to be that dry but, well. He wasn't exactly feeling his best and controlling his voice was work. He immediately regretted it, though and he sighed. That was not helping.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. It's just hard to imagine anyone willingly putting up with this." Maybe it was different for humans, or maybe they just didn't remember the pain all that well. Maybe the fun before really was worth the price after. Right now Swift couldn't see it.

"I should lay down. It won't hurt if I'm asleep." And he couldn't make an ass of himself, either.
dreamsallotted: (side glance)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-24 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Seel glared in response to Swift's dry attitude. Not that he himself was doing much better, but he just normally expected more from Swift. Which was profoundly unfair, holding himself to a different standard. That wasn't how this was supposed to work. They were both supposed to try. That's what was preventing them from becoming Pell and Caeru, right? That was one thing Seel didn't want. That was a horror, no matter how it turned out. He didn't want his marriage to end up like that. Swift didn't deserve that.

"I know. We're both not helping." Swift at least had an excuse. "That's a good idea. Taking a nap might help." He'd offer to come with you Swift, but being together at the moment seemed like a disaster. They both needed some time apart. To cool heads.

"I'll see if I can find you some real food while you sleep. In case you get hungry." They couldn't just eat crackers.
swiftlet: (Listen)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-24 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Swift almost asked him not to go, but thought better of it. Seel had the right idea--more time not speaking to each other would give both of them time to cool off. So they could both take a deep breath and stop picking at each other. They couldn't be falling apart now. That would only make everything that much worse, when they were supposed to be standing together. Swift, at least, couldn't lose that strength.

"Thank you. I appreciate it." He didn't have a whole lot of hope that he'd be able to actually eat it without being sick, but he could try, at least. And maybe he actually would be feeling better after a nap. maybe he should have been a little more grateful that he could manage that--in Forever, he'd never have had the time for it.

"I don't think I'll be that hard to find. I doubt I could walk very far right now."
dreamsallotted: (upset)

[personal profile] dreamsallotted 2017-12-24 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Seel for one was hoping that Swift would be feeling better after his nap, or at least that Seel himself would. He'd use the time wisely. He'd find something for them to eat, even if Swift couldn't eat it now, he'd be hungry eventually. And maybe take a bath. Maybe it would help center him.

"Do you need me to help get you into bed?" He could still be nice when he was upset right? Well, Seel was actively trying not to be an asshole right now, even if it was really hard. He was frustrated and he couldn't help Swift and it made him angry. At Swift. He took a few more calming breaths, trying to remind himself not to be angry at Swift for something he couldn't control.
swiftlet: (Visitor)

[personal profile] swiftlet 2017-12-25 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
"No." Swift stood and immediately regretted it, though, and sat back down before he could fall over. The floor still looked hard. He didn't want to sigh, but he did--this was still incredibly stupid, and it made him change his mind.

"Yes." He closed his eyes again and tried not to think about how awful the whole thing felt. This wasn't even life threatening and it felt terrible, he could only imagine what some other things felt like and he shuddered even thinking about it. How had humans managed to survive at all?

"I'd appreciate not falling over, if you don't mind."
