Test Drive Meme #27

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open December 25th, and apps are open January 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: DON'T FEED THE WILDLIFE
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

This time, the monsters are very large and very scary, with the crocodiles from Lake Placid, a 1999 movie that was about... well, giant crocodiles.

These critters are massive, measuring over 20 feet in length and full of raw power. They're capable of taking down bears, eating full cows, and decapitating unsuspecting victims. Despite their size, they are quite fast and could definitely take someone by surprise with their quick movement. Look out for those formerly-still ponds, they back a serious bite...]

SCENARIO TWO: SHINING, SHIMMERING, SPLASHING
[Everyone's gotta drink sometimes and when you're in a new environment, that dehydration is kicking in double. Unfortunately, the water in Hadriel right now is... tainted. Nothing about it tastes particularly off, but one drink of it and you'll find yourself with strange and unusual powers. These abilities aren't necessarily gamechangers, and they aren't the full power, but they're definitely there at your fingertips.

Give your friends nightmares, give your enemies a super strong punch to the jaw- the sky is the limit, but be careful for when it wears off and those you've affected seek their revenge with their own water-powered abilities. Maybe you should find the memory erasing pond...

This is a mini event, based off of our shining, shimmering, splashing event going on this month!]

S O R R O W

SCENARIO THREE: HAIR OF THE DOG
[Were you partying last night, or are the gods just exceptionally cruel? Either way, you have what seems to be a killer hangover. Stomachaches, headaches, and general feeling like the undead- it's all happening and you're feeling the worst of it.

You're welcome to try and attempt your own hangover cures, but little seems to alleviate this. It just takes time, and maybe a friend or two to rub your back and make some food for you- that is, if you can keep it down. Or maybe your friends are in the same boat as you are and you need to commiserate. Either way, you're in for a hell of a day.

Maybe just take it easy for awhile.]

two....

[Dropping unconscious just moments after seeing someone he is very, very sure is Ravus Nox Fleuret is not exactly how Ignis wanted his afternoon to go, but luckily for him he does come 'round again immediately upon being shaken.

What he does next is, in all likelihood, entirely predictable - he scrambles backwards and up onto his feet, a weapon already in his hand and his expression immediately wary as the line of his jaw tenses.

Good morning, indeed.
]

You.

[Ravus backs off as soon as Ignis scrambles to his feet, eyebrows raised as the other man goes for his weapon. It's a touch overdramatic, but he supposes it's only natural he'd be alarmed. He makes no effort to draw his sword in response, though he's more than ready to do so if attacked.]

Me. [A beat, then, to point out the obvious--] You fell asleep.
claritatis: (003 !)

[personal profile] claritatis 2017-12-26 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ignis looks ready to defend himself, but not aggressive - Ravus is larger than he is, his weapon heavier, and he would have many disadvantages should they actually come to blows.

Though, if Ravus wanted him dead, he could have easily cut his throat while he was unconscious.

He doesn't expect the casual 'conversation', and one of his blades lowers about half an inch. His eyebrows twitch in the shadow of a frown. Just what is Ravus trying to pull, here?
]

... Not intentionally, I can assure you.

[personal profile] glaivekeeper 2017-12-26 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd question the sanity of anyone who would willingly fall asleep in a place like this.

[Ravus is studying him a little too long, surprised that not only can Ignis see, but that his face and eyes are undamaged altogether. He keeps such thoughts to himself, however, preferring to remain focused on the matter at hand.]

... It may have been my doing. Ever since I drank from one of the pools, anyone who comes within my vicinity has been stricken with the same affliction.
claritatis: (007 !)

[personal profile] claritatis 2017-12-28 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[This is... peculiar. He expected more active animosity from Ravus and the lack of it has him shifting out of his immediate defensive posture more quickly than he had thought he might.]

... I see.

[A simple explanation, and one that could easily be true. Ignis fights against his instinctive mistrust of the man in an attempt to judge this situation objectively. Slowly, he lowers his daggers entirely, then sheaths them both.

He lets out a short sigh and adjusts his glasses with a small nudge of one forefinger.
]

We're dealing with several unfortunate side effects from the water sources at the moment. So far, none of them have been worse than extended dehydration.

[personal profile] glaivekeeper 2017-12-28 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Ravus decides he's pretty nonchalant about what Ignis does or doesn't think of him, or what he does or doesn't remember, all things considered. As long as there's no unnecessary hostilities between them, it doesn't seem like it will be a problem.]

And who are "we", exactly? Is the King and his full retinue here?
claritatis: (002 !)

[personal profile] claritatis 2017-12-28 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

[Ignis sighs. If this is how things will be between them, for the moment, then it suits him well enough. The last thing that Hadriel needs is them tearing the place up trying to take chunks out of one another for no good reason at all.]

You see the full compliment of Lucians in this place stood before you now.

[Him, and only him. Wrap your head around that, Ravus.]

'We' are myself, and the other individuals trapped here.

[personal profile] glaivekeeper 2017-12-28 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Good. Then Noctis may continue his journey uninterrupted.

[Minus one retainer, but would Ignis even have continued to journey with Noctis, after everything that happened in Altissia? He wonders... though he's also sure he knows the answer already.

After a thoughtful pause, he looks back at Ignis.]

You seemed to be rather ill at ease, so I will state my intentions plainly: I have no quarrel with you, least of all here.
claritatis: (035 !)

[personal profile] claritatis 2017-12-29 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Nor I with you.

[It doesn't make him feel any less ill at ease to know that Ravus means him no harm. The fact that he is standing here at all is unsettling in a way that Ignis can't quite put his finger on, and he finds his attention briefly drifting to the metallic arm by the other man's side.

Of all the people from his home he would have hoped to see here, Ravus did not rank highly on the list. That said, there are certainly others he would wish to see far less.
]

Being at odds would be of little use to either of us. If you have need of aid, or information, I will provide what I can.
glaivekeeper: (007)

[personal profile] glaivekeeper 2017-12-29 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ravus notices the attention on his arm, but doesn't react to it. He's used to the prosthetic getting its fair share of stares, by now.

What he dislikes is being at an informational disadvantage, and admitting that disadvantage is something he likes even less. But he's not going to rectify the situation with stubbornness, so--]

Very well. Tell me what you know of our present situation.
claritatis: (003 !)

[personal profile] claritatis 2017-12-30 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ignis considers his position once again, then nods and clasps his hands behind his back. He tips his head slightly to indicate that Ravus should follow him, then begins to walk.]

This is Hadriel. Until recently, the city was contained within a large cavern which was regularly transported to a new location by one of the native beings, until we arrived on this planet. [He glances briefly up to the other man, as if gauging his reaction. It all sounds like make-believe, after all.]

Said beings model themselves as 'gods', and their respective abilities would lend some credence to that title. Each is capable of manipulating and feeding on a different abstract concept or emotion, and they draw that nutrition from us.
glaivekeeper: (002)

[personal profile] glaivekeeper 2017-12-31 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Ravus follows and listens patiently, and not once does he look sceptical of Ignis's explanation. Perhaps it's simply due to his family line having a far closer connection to the gods than most, but it makes it far easier to accept something so out of the ordinary, when the divinities of Eos could seem impossible to understand, at times. Although...]

These 'gods' seem to function in a very different manner to the Astrals, it seems, if they can feed on us in such a way. Do we have any means of communing with them, or else understanding their motives?
claritatis: (022 !)

[personal profile] claritatis 2017-12-31 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I have thought as much, myself.

[Creatures not of literal divine power, but brought forth from elsewhere with such vast abilities that to mere mortals they do seem like gods. They were like the Astrals in many ways, yet unlike them in just as many, and Ignis could not draw on too much of his knowledge of the capricious gods of Eos while attempting to understand the creatures who 'rule' in this place.

He is not surprised, though, that Ravus drew the same conclusion. Ignis knows that he is subconsciously explaining their captors in terms that they will both understand.
]

They are easily contacted. Whether they choose to respond, and in what manner they respond may vary, but they do not hold themselves away from us entirely. Some are more... approachable than others.
