Test Drive Meme #27

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open December 25th, and apps are open January 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: DON'T FEED THE WILDLIFE
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

This time, the monsters are very large and very scary, with the crocodiles from Lake Placid, a 1999 movie that was about... well, giant crocodiles.

These critters are massive, measuring over 20 feet in length and full of raw power. They're capable of taking down bears, eating full cows, and decapitating unsuspecting victims. Despite their size, they are quite fast and could definitely take someone by surprise with their quick movement. Look out for those formerly-still ponds, they back a serious bite...]

SCENARIO TWO: SHINING, SHIMMERING, SPLASHING
[Everyone's gotta drink sometimes and when you're in a new environment, that dehydration is kicking in double. Unfortunately, the water in Hadriel right now is... tainted. Nothing about it tastes particularly off, but one drink of it and you'll find yourself with strange and unusual powers. These abilities aren't necessarily gamechangers, and they aren't the full power, but they're definitely there at your fingertips.

Give your friends nightmares, give your enemies a super strong punch to the jaw- the sky is the limit, but be careful for when it wears off and those you've affected seek their revenge with their own water-powered abilities. Maybe you should find the memory erasing pond...

This is a mini event, based off of our shining, shimmering, splashing event going on this month!]

S O R R O W

SCENARIO THREE: HAIR OF THE DOG
[Were you partying last night, or are the gods just exceptionally cruel? Either way, you have what seems to be a killer hangover. Stomachaches, headaches, and general feeling like the undead- it's all happening and you're feeling the worst of it.

You're welcome to try and attempt your own hangover cures, but little seems to alleviate this. It just takes time, and maybe a friend or two to rub your back and make some food for you- that is, if you can keep it down. Or maybe your friends are in the same boat as you are and you need to commiserate. Either way, you're in for a hell of a day.

Maybe just take it easy for awhile.]

[ Noctis is rapidly beginning to feel like some twisted soul just decided to tip in the entire population of these massive beasts for the hell of it, because he's just killed five of them and it's beginning to get very, very tiresome.

You get the hang of killing those things by the second, third time, but it doesn't mean they're any less of a pain -- and in the meantime, there are no answers to be found, no one to demand it from (he's pretty sure the people in the arena with him are just as lost as he is), but not getting eaten takes priority over disgruntlement, all things considered.

Even so, Noctis should have paid a lot more attention to just who it is that's in the arena with him, because a familiar voice just addressed him off to the side: ]

I know as much as y --

[ His words die in his throat when he realizes who it is. Ravus. Ravus, whole and not collapsed by his father's sword, nor resurrected cruelly into a state worse than death. No, this is --

-- he stares, wide-eyed, and almost drops said father's sword. He's seen him just moments before he was here; he's seen Ravus, begging for death, and despite all that's happened the tragedy of it made his chest hurt. But the question now is, how has he managed to come out of all that unscathed and very much alive, like it all never happened? ]

Ravus?

[Ravus is likewise caught offguard at the person who addresses him, and he turns, eyes wide, at the person he sees. Noctis.

His memories of the end are... hazy, thanks in large part to the daemonification that stripped him of almost all sense of self, and in part, because he isn't sure which memories are real and trustworthy. He distinctly remembers dying, and yet here he is, as of yet unaware that it was Hope that pieced him back together into what he used to be, rather than allowing him to be yanked through the Door as the twisted creature he ultimately became.

He also distinctly remembers Noctis's rejection as he swore his allegiance to the King of Light, could even recall it was Noctis who cut him down. So for all his attempts to school his expression into something neutral, he can't disguise the wounded expression on his face as he offers his reply.]

Noctis. [He simply feels sad, resigned. If Noctis were to attack him once again, he wouldn't put up much of a fight. What would be the point? Instead, his mismatched eyes travel down to the glaive in the King's hand.] Good, you have your father's blade.

[That part of his memories, at least, seems reliable. He's grateful for that much.]

[ To say that Noctis doesn't have the faintest idea how to react to this is an understatement. For one, the man isn't looking to kill him. For another, he looks... sad? The last time they met face to face (with Ravus conscious and entirely in one piece), Ravus had been a heartbeat away from cutting their throats open. There had seemingly been a change of heart along the way from the letters he had seen, and the change, while jarring, brings with it a measure of relief.

He's alive, seemingly well and a far cry from when he had last set eyes on him -- a reanimated, wretched existence that begged for death's release (an image that would haunt Noctis for a long, long time). Still, Noctis' chest is tight; he had been responsible for Luna's death, he hadn't been strong enough to defend her, and he wouldn't really blame Ravus if he takes that grief out on him, too. Six knows he fucking deserves it.

But he looks at him like that, and Noctis swallows hard. He has to be worthy of them, of all of them; he has to bring back the light, and in this moment he finds that he knows what to say. ]

Thank you. [ He says at last, quiet but no less genuine. He can say it to him now, when he's alive. ] I'm sorry I was too late.

[ For Luna, for you. He discovered too late that Ravus was helping the effort instead of hindering it, but maybe now things will be different when they eventually return from this place. ]

[If only Noctis knew just how much Ravus had tried to take his grief out on him. If it weren't for Ignis's intervention -- and Ardyn's, to a lesser extent -- he would have been long dead, killed on that altar in a fit of rage and grief. He's tried to move past that, to put his loyalty to his family and to Lunafreya above everything, be a better person than one consumed by thoughts of revenge.

Which had made Noctis's decision to apparently reject him hurt, but in a twisted way, he could also understand it. The Chosen King he'd sworn allegiance to had every reason to mistrust him, he supposed. Yet...]
