[Their relationship has been... complicated, to say the least. And of late, it's been even more so. Right up until she died, things were kind of a mess, but at least at that point, they'd started getting somewhere. Working together. Righting wrongs. Trying to stop mass murder that she understands now is not the grandiose sacrifice Stanton made her believe it was.
No, she's the one who chose to believe him, because she'd been looking for a dad who didn't use her for what she could do. Look how that'd turned out.
It's weird to be face to face with her dad again, a dad from a time before she joined the team to feed information to Stanton, before she'd fallen in love with Cameron, before she'd been arrested and all but forced to be a double agent in order to remain free. Turned out to be a death sentence, but hey, she saved lives. It'll be okay. Her dad's team can handle it.
The words do sound strange, and yet they're exactly what Dani expects him to say. It's not uncomfortable, just new.
And nice.]
I'm glad to be here too.
[It's faint, but she can feel the twisted mess of all he's feeling, guilt and sadness and regret, hesitance, love. Maybe she feels it more because their DNA sings a similar song, because she is part him. That seems right to her, the bond of blood, strong despite the odds.]
Guess I'm a fan of second chances.
[She takes a seat across from him, setting the bouquet on her lap.]
