Test Drive Meme #30

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open March 25th, and apps are open April 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: CHOMP CHOMP
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Or sticking out of that pipe, even. Yes, that's right, the Door seems to have brought in an infestation of piranha plants, which may be familiar to you, since they've been in nearly every Mario game.

Piranha plants are large orb-shaped plants with big ol' teeth, all the better for biting you with. They can't walk around, but their stalks can stretch pretty far, so they'll be perfectly happy to stretch out and bite the heck out of you if you get too close - and some of them are good at hiding. You might not see them until it's too late. Luckily, while the biting is pretty bad, it's just about all they can do. You'll be fine, as long as you keep your distance.]

SCENARIO TWO: THEY'RE COMING TO GET YOU
[You've got a scratchy throat, a little cough, a general feeling of awfulness. It sucks being sick, doesn't it? Maybe you can find someone to get you some juice, or hold your hand, or just be sympathetic to how crappy you feel. After all, no one likes being sick. But how can you know that person is actually trying to help you? They have an untrustworthy look in their eye, and you're pretty sure you just heard them mutter something about leaving your body in a ditch.

Or maybe you're the one trying to take care of a sick friend. You have only the best intentions, but they don't seem interested in cooperating at all. In fact, it seems like they think you're trying to hurt them! What the hell? And here you were trying to be a good person for once. Oh shit - did you just sneeze? This isn't going to end well.

This is a mini version of our Flu Season event this month.]

H O P E

SCENARIO THREE: FONDLY YOURS
[When you stepped out of the house this morning, you found a small bouquet of flowers on the doorstep, just waiting for you. They're just the sort you like - your favorite kind, in fact - so they must be meant for you. But who could they be from?

Of course, there must be someone you wish they were from. A lover, a long-term flirtation, your best friend thinking of you. Or maybe you're hoping for something else: an apology from someone who hurt you, or an olive branch from and enemy. Whoever you're hoping they're from, well - the only way to know is ask, right?

Unless you'd rather leave a secret bouquet for them, instead.]

[Their relationship has been... complicated, to say the least. And of late, it's been even more so. Right up until she died, things were kind of a mess, but at least at that point, they'd started getting somewhere. Working together. Righting wrongs. Trying to stop mass murder that she understands now is not the grandiose sacrifice Stanton made her believe it was.

No, she's the one who chose to believe him, because she'd been looking for a dad who didn't use her for what she could do. Look how that'd turned out.

It's weird to be face to face with her dad again, a dad from a time before she joined the team to feed information to Stanton, before she'd fallen in love with Cameron, before she'd been arrested and all but forced to be a double agent in order to remain free. Turned out to be a death sentence, but hey, she saved lives. It'll be okay. Her dad's team can handle it.

The words do sound strange, and yet they're exactly what Dani expects him to say. It's not uncomfortable, just new.

And nice.]

I'm glad to be here too.

[It's faint, but she can feel the twisted mess of all he's feeling, guilt and sadness and regret, hesitance, love. Maybe she feels it more because their DNA sings a similar song, because she is part him. That seems right to her, the bond of blood, strong despite the odds.]

Guess I'm a fan of second chances.

[She takes a seat across from him, setting the bouquet on her lap.]

Thanks.

[The words land somewhere where it hurts: in his hopes. Hoping almost scares him more than an actual threat. No, not almost. It does. Because hoping for something means that if you lose it it will hurt all the more than something you had already committed yourself to losing.

He doesn't want to lose this. Her. again.]

Maybe, um, maybe you could draw them?

[Its an attempt at affectionate conversation. Tentative, hands rubbing a bit awkwardly at his knees as he leans in towards the table, eyes flitting between her and the surface of the table then back to her again]

I have paints and paper if you should need them. Or...want them.

[She doesn't want to lose it either. For all that this place is... weird as hell, really, but she's alive here. And her dad is here. Death does a lot to change a person's perspective. The hurts of the past are still there, but they're... fainter. Duller, in some ways.]

You do?

[She almost asks him where he got them, but it's not relevant.] Yeah, I'd love that. I thought I was gonna have to start drawing murals caveman style if I wanted to get anything done. I still might.

[A new medium, a new project.]

Not enough to do here.

You always were talented at adapting to new surroundings.

[Not necessarily a trait she got from him.]

The paints and paper are at my apartment. You are welcome to get them whenever you'd like. And, um, of course you are welcome to come over if ever you, um, if ever you feel you'd like to.

[please]

[Moving through life like a shadow, flowing from place to place with the ease and grace of water in a stream, always moving -- yes, Dani is adaptable. When everyone's emotions hit you like the music at a good rock concert, you learn to bend and twist so it hurts as little as possible, and so the highs are higher. Medicine helped, but by and large, it's her approach that kept her alive through the years and questionable decisions she made since leaving home.

She still doesn't regret leaving. Her dad betrayed her trust. Hell, he did it again when he got her arrested (which... was also her fault, she can admit that). He was willing to put her in harm's way to keep her out of Binghamton, and in such a way that she didn't have much of a choice.

It's nice to get he chance to reconcile, but it's... too soon. Death dulled the hurts, but she's still raw inside. She barely got to be happy with Cameron before Stanton killed her. She can't just... give in and give up. For once in her life, she needs to think hard and maybe, maybe manage to be rational.]

I'll head over later. [After a walk.] I'm... trying out being by myself a little. It's quieter that way. Easier to think.
