Test Drive Meme #31

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open April 24th, and apps are open May 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: WHAT BIG TEETH YOU HAVE
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Even if the monster looks cuddly.

Direwolves are not quite what you medieval fantasy folks might think they are- they're untameable and almost the size of a bear. While usually a predator like the direwolf might wait for the opportune moment to strike, these beasts hunt in packs and are very, very hungry. You won't be able to tame them, and any attempts may result in a couple of missing fingers.]

S O R R O W

SCENARIO TWO: REGRETFULLY YOURS
[Have you ever done something you regret? A thought or an action you've performed that you look back on and wished you hadn't? Even if it's something outside of your control, something you couldn't have known, if there's something rattling around in that brain of yours, it's coming out in full force right now, leaving you guilt-ridden and prepared to confess all your sins to the nearest bystander.

But what if confessing isn't enough? You need to show them how sorry you are in any attempt at redemption you can muster. Work as hard as you can and maybe someone will forgive you. Work even harder and maybe someday you can forgive yourself.

This is a mini version of our Tears of Joy event this month.]

R A G E

SCENARIO THREE: TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK
[The goal is simple: stay together in this room and use the supplies provided to build the best tower you can. You've got matchsticks, popsicle sticks, Q-tips, four different kinds of glue, and various little wheels and doodads. The team with the best tower at the end of the exercise gets a wish granted! That isn't so bad, is it?

Except your teammate is insufferable. Everything from their ideas, to their building strategy, down to their accent is absolutely intolerable to you. How can you be expected to work with such a difficult partner? If you leave the room your tower is forfeit, but who can expect you to stay in these conditions?

Careful- they're just as fed up with you as you are with them. Can the two of you overcome your mutual disdain to build this arts and crafts masterpiece, or will it be a race to the door?]

"Uh, yeah..." There aren't many times that Church is lacking things to say, but he's got a lot to process at the moment. Not being dead, not being where he was a few minutes ago, giant wolf-things... Tex.

He focuses on her, afraid that if he takes his eyes off her she'll just vanish again. Literally and figuratively. Slowly, questions start to filter through the confusion. Where are they? Is this someone else's mind? How did he get here? How did she get here? What were those things? Did the emp work? Is he dead? What happened to Caboose and the Reds? Are they okay? Subconsiously, Alpha distills it all down to a single statement.

"Okay, what the hell...."

Every other thought is lost as she takes her helmet off. Fuzzy memories of the last time he actually saw her face... before Blood Gulch, before the Program separated them, there was... an argument? It was something stupid, it was always something stupid. He can't even remember what it was.

"I... I don't... you... I mean, you're..." Alive... Beautiful

He knew she was, but seeing her like this again. Wow.

One corner of Tex's mouth quirks up and she sets her helmet on the ground to rake her fingers back through her hair on both sides of her head.

"You sure are talking a lot for someone who's speechless."

Tex isn't in the habit of carrying ponytail holders around. She kind of wishes she'd thought to bring one now, because she'd like to get her hair off of her neck. But eh, it can be dealt with later. She'll take a shower and comb it. She finishes separating her hair with her fingers and picks her helmet back up.

"Come on. I'm taking you to the speakeasy, I need a drink."

That snaps him out it and back to what's going on. He shrugs casually, "Hey, I talk a lot. It's part of my charm, you know that."

He can't help but watch her... at least until he realizes what he's doing and tries to act like he totally wasn't just being an accidental creeper. Hey, look at those buildings over there...

"Great," There's a pause as Church clears his throat. "You're buying though."

"No problem," Tex says, not bothering to mention there's no economy or money here. Instead she looks at Church out of the corners of her eyes and starts leading the way to the bar. There's a lot to hash out with him, it seems. Especially seeing as how Epsilon is here and doing his best Church impression on a daily basis.

"You know, I shouldn't be surprised you're here," she says. "It figures it would take you an extra month compared to me."

"Oh yeah, and why is that?" It's not like he's always tagging along behind her anything. Church trots a couple of steps, just to make sure he's beside her and not behind. See, he's totally not tagging along. But where is here, exactly?

"Speaking of 'here'... What is this place? Some kind of low rent afterlife 2.0?" He looks around at the less than pristine setting. His last outpost was in better shape than some of the buildings here. "Because it looks pretty shitty for the world to come."

Not that he's religious to begin with... never really has been. But, spending a few years as a ghost makes it seem like a legitimate question.

Tex shakes her head.

"Some kind of dimensional nexus, where people are brought from different worlds. We're basically here to supply emotional food to the ones they call 'gods'."

While she speaks, Tex pulls out her communicator and finds the introductory page to show him. Half of what she learned about the place on arrival came from that document, so it's as good a place to start as any.

Well, that's... different. He gives an amused snort and takes the communicator to start skimming through the document. "They must love bickering, then."

He's quiet for a few minutes as he tries to absorb the information. Picking and choosing what seems the most useful at the moment. Emotions, 'Gods', new body, random shit, hey look pong.... wait, what?

Church stops dead as he scrolls back and reads it all over again. A couple minutes later looks at Tex and then back to the device and back to Tex.

"Ho-le-shit."

In retrospect it should have been pretty obvious. Granted, the sensation isn't exactly new for him, which makes it easier for him to overlook the differences. Add to it all the distractions... one in particular... and he hadn't even noticed that he has an actual body again.

"Does this place do pizza?"

She snickers at his comment about the bickering but doesn't reply to it. It seems true enough, doesn't it? The gods must really enjoy that kind of thing if they chose to bring the two of them into this world.

She reaches for her device when he's done and tucks it away.

"Something like it, anyway. Close enough for me." She gives him another sidelong look. "Hungry?"

He tries, and fails, to hold back a smile. God he missed that sound. Hell, he even missed the bickering at this point.

"Are you kidding me? I haven't eaten in six years. I'll make room for a slice or two."

"You figured out you're in a body, then?" she asks. She's wondering how he had done that, considering he hasn't taken his helmet off. But from what she knows, he had actually been implanted in a human body after the Mother of Invention crashed—something she'd never experienced, herself. Maybe it's just a familiar feeling.
