ALRIGHT HERE WE GO you asked for this

Obviously, Ronan doesn't really let people in- and when he does bring someone into his inner circle, he doesn't let them go. He can be surprisingly clingy and protective, though he normally lets that show more in actions than words. One of the things that I both love and hate about their CR is that so much of it is unsaid- they're so good at reading one another that not much needs to be said, and Ronan doesn't really know how he'd say things anyway.

What he lacks in articulation though, he makes up for in depth. Ronan feels things very intensely, though he likes to pretend otherwise because it leaves him very vulnerable. With Adam, he's been slowly learning to let down his walls and start to let Adam see just how earnestly he feels- about wanting to go home, about the various events, about how he feels about him. It feels like a lesson in futility sometimes, because Ronan is quick to throw up his defenses again and/or get angry the second something happens that he isn't 100% okay with, but the fact that he's letting Adam see that part of himself more often is pretty huge, and more often than not, it pays off with both of them being able to support one another on a deeper level. And that's positive reinforcement! It's good! It means that Ronan is more prone to doing it in the future, especially now that they're both edging toward actually being in a relationship.

And that's kind of the scary part- or, well, it should be, but Ronan isn't really scared about it. His self assurance and frankness are big assets to him here, because in his mind it really is kind of simple: he likes Adam, Adam likes him, and Ronan knows that it isn't going to change from his side any time soon (and he's relatively confident that it won't change from Adam's side either, so there you have it). He understands Adam surprisingly well, and he knows that Adam probably feels out of his depth here, or at the very least, is paranoid that He Will Fuck This Up. To compensate, Ronan is very determined to be the rock in this, to always be blunt and unwavering so as not to give Adam cause to doubt him or this.

While Adam hasn't really known love, Ronan has known it intensely and painfully, and as much as he's not really scared about being in a relationship with Adam, some part of him is scared to feel that because he knows very well how it can be ripped away and he's intimately familiar with its absence. So, he's not at that point yet- I think he could be if he let himself, but his self preservation is still kicking in a bit before he could really consciously think about opening himself to Adam as wholly as he possibly could. But if they keep on like this, it'll happen- sooner, rather than later, to be honest. The groundwork is already there, he just needs to let it happen.
