Test Drive Meme #34

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open July 25th, and apps are open August 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: OOZES GEOMETRICALLY
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

The only warning you may get is the squish slick sound of movement before a gelatinous cube is upon you. Leaving gross trails behind them and with their see-through bodies filled with the bones of those that they've dissolved in their jelly, these cubes have no real vulnerability other than their limited movement.

Gelatinous cubes are exactly what it says on the tin, giant translucent cubes of jelly whose main attack tactic seems to be cornering people in small hallways and just sort of absorbing them into its mass. They then digest all meat and flesh and leave only floating bones and various metals their victim may have been wearing stashed inside of their jiggling forms.

Maybe it's time to apologize for the last time you brought a jelly mold to a potluck.]

SCENARIO TWO: MY LOYAL SERVANTS
[Thanks for your service to the gods! In order to power each of them up, it's up to you to pick a deity you like most (or dislike least, as it were) and simply say their name in order to be influenced by them and encouraged to inspire their emotion in others!

What, you don't want to play? Too bad, accidental name calling works just as well, even if you didn't mean to incite them- you'll feel their presence pulling their chosen emotion out in you anyway. Hope you picked a good one!

C O N F U S I O N

SCENARIO THREE: I MISS GPS
[Sure, you might be a little confused at being here at first, but that generally goes away within a few days. This time... well, this time, that feeling of befuddlement isn't quite going away. Roads that you take seem to disappear behind you when you turn around, your right turns are left turns on the map you're following, and you're pretty sure that everyone except for you put their shirt on backwards this morning.

Is everyone high? What they're saying makes absolutely no sense to you. You can't find your way out of a paper bag, let alone back to where you've been staying lately. Is that a dog or is it an eldritch horror coming up to lick at your calves?

During this prompt, everything will feel off and it can be very difficult to get your bearings at all. That's Confusion for you!]

[Wow look at her and her fancy paperless future world. Actually it sounds pretty tight, let's be honest.]

Yeeeah, from what I've seen, this isn't so much a peaceful coexistence situation as it is a reluctant cooperation for the sake of survival sort of deal. At least for some people.

[it’s true, her society does have its bright spots. just don’t ask her about Daxamite terrorists]

But it can’t be like that for everyone. [she sounds uncertain] Can it?

No, no, not everyone. A lot of the people I've met are pretty cool. It's just, in a situation like this where all of us are forced to live together in a place we don't want to be, not everyone's going to be on board with the whole coexisting in harmony thing. I mean, it sucks, but that's just the reality of it.

Maybe. [she looks dejected] Where I’m from, we do coexist in harmony. [she bites her lip and looks down] I’m from the United Planets. There are worlds that had been at war with one another just five years ago that have joined and made peace. So it’s. . . strange to me that other people wouldn’t try to do the same.

[That sounds SUPER cool but maybe he should focus on the actually important part of this conversation]

I'm sure most people here would be totally on board with the whole peace thing. There's a lot of good people here, but there are also a few who maybe aren't as cool.

[she smiles] Absolutely! I'm an alien, technically. Bgztl had humanoids evolve the same way people on Earth did. We're actually in perfect sync with Earth's rotational axis and path around the sun, but we're in a different dimension.

[it is super cool and she'll be happy to to tell him all about it but yes, the important part of the conversation]

Is there anyone in particular I should be aware of?

[Bgzwhat oh man he doesn't know if he can even pronounce that BUT IT'S STILL AWESOME]

I'm kinda still new myself, so I'm not super positive about who all is bad news. Aside from the gods themselves and the killer robots, I heard that there's some kinda demon? Whose name I don't... remember. Not. Not super smart on my part.

["Big-zi-til" is the commonly accepted pronunciation. her native tongue has a lot of strings of consonants with no vowels in sight.

she gets a concerned expression on her face] Killer robots? I've never heard of such a thing. Do they attack often? And I thought demons were only a myth on Earth. They're real and they're here?

Sorry, that's the Null. As far as I know they really don't turn up all that often? I just know that it's bad news when they do.

See, it's kind of weird here. There are a few different versions of Earth that people here came from. Something that might be a myth on one Earth might be something that totally exists on another.

The Null. [she says slowly, pondering the words and the information as she does so] How long ago did they last attack?

Different Earths? Something like parallel worlds, I assume. I've heard the theory, but [she flushes faintly] I'm not really one of the Legion's scientists. I wish Brainy or Lyle were here, they'd have fun sorting out all of the differences.

But I've been rude and haven't introduced myself. I'm Tinya Wazzo, code name Apparition of the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Before I got here. Someone said it's been a few months, I think.

[The Null are interesting and all but Peter's gonna just home in on THE COOLEST SHIT HE'S EVER HEARD IN HIS LIFE]

Legion of Super-Heroes? That's a thing you guys have? That is awesome!

[oh hold up now he's the one being rude]

Ah, s-sorry, uh. I'm Peter. Peter Parker. I...yeah, that's. Yeah.

Has there been word from them since the attack?

[at his reaction to the Legion, she smiles proudly. the Legion has been her home for the past several months and she can't help being proud of it, despite being so far away from it. and despite not knowing if the Legion has won its worst battle by far. and despite not knowing if she's alive or dead]

Mm-hmm. There are ten of us, not counting me. We're all from different planets and each of us has a unique superpower. Mine is this. [she phases her arm and puts it through a nearby building with no harm done to her or the wall. and her smile widens] It is pretty awesome.

It's nice to meet you Peter. Have you been here long?

Not that I know of, but I think someone caught one or something?

[He watches her just stick her arm into a building like it's no big thing, it takes him a second to process what he just witnessed, and another couple seconds to form words again because that was freaking awesome.]

I uh. I've been here a few weeks maybe. But like never mind that, you just phased through solid matter!

[As if he's trying to prove the thing he just saw to himself, he walks over to the building and starts putting his hands all over it, YEP SOLID]

I think that's that coolest power I've ever seen!

Caught one? Sounds like something worth looking into.

[she grins at his reaction. on Bgztl, it's no big deal, but it was enough to earn her a place in the Legion and she's very proud of that. and it should probably be noted that she's wearing this costume.

she withdraws her arm from the building and unphases]

It's actually something everyone on my home planet can do, but I just happened to phase through the wrong thing at the right time, then save Saturn Girl from a White Triangle assassin. That was enough to earn me a spot in the Legion.

[she beams]

Really? Thank you so much! It's useful, especially in a fight. [but she's not thinking of the moment when she was distracted and solid and maybe--no. there's no time for that now] Have you seen many powers before?

[That sure is a super hero costume. Maybe Spider-Man should start wearing a cape, because that shit right there is badass.

Knowing his luck though, it would totally just get tangled in his webs and then he'd look like a jackass, so maybe no cape.]

I've been meaning to myself, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Most people where I'm from don't have any powers or anything, but there's a few people who do. One guy was just a straight up wizard like, I don't even know how to describe the stuff he could do. Others were more physical, like having super strength or something.

[she designed it herself, despite what their "image consultants" had in mind. and she wasn't about to part with her cape.

capes are easy when you can phase it away from anyone or anything trying to reach for it]

I wonder where it is and if they'll let us see it?

An actual wizard? With real spells and magic? We don't have one of those! [she smiles at the mention of super strength] My boyfriend has super strength. He has other powers, too, but he can only use them one at a time.

[You keep that cape girl it is fancy as hell]

I haven't asked around yet, but it's definitely on my to do list.

But yeah, legit wizard. I'm pretty sure, anyway. I saw him make portals and stuff, super cool. What other kinda powers does your boyfriend have?

[walk, walk, fashion baby]

Portals? Were they from place to place or into other worlds or dimensions? Maybe he could track this place down.

[she smiles. she already misses Jo like crazy, but she's not going to pass up the opportunity to brag about him] He can be invulnerable, he can fly, he's super fast and has incredible stamina, and he has penetra-vision, so he can look through walls and for long distances.

I... actually have no idea what kind of portals they are. When I saw them, they were just from one place to another, but maybe he can do more with them? I never really had a chance to ask.

[And holy crap girl that is a lot to brag about. THAT'S SO MANY POWERS.]

All that, and he can fly? Okay, this dude definitely won the super powers lottery.

[And here Peter was thinking that sticking to walls was cool.]

That's too bad. Do you know a lot of people with powers? If you do, they might be looking for you anyway, which would eventually lead them here.

[she looks pleased at Peter's reaction]

He really did. He's not in the Legion, but his team has helped us out a few times. That's how we met. [she laughs] During a prison riot.

Not a lot of them, but... Y-yeah, maybe you're right.

[He doesn't actually look very sure about that, but heeey.]

Wow, jeez. I mean, I guess there are weirder places to meet people? As long as your first date wasn't at the same prison, I think you're good.

I know I'm right.

[she looks very sure. after all, she believes that her teammates will be looking for her as soon as they defeat the Daxamites. if they beat the Daxamites]

No, our first date got interrupted by terrorists trying to steal advanced weaponry.

Guess I can't argue with that.

[He wishes he could be as positive about this as she is, but at the very least her optimism about it is helping.]

...Okay, between you and me, that's probably about as bad as my first date went. Well, it was my school's homecoming, but it still counts.

[only because it's the closest thing hes ever had to a date but shh]

[teasing] Nope, so you shouldn't try.

[she has to be optimistic. or else she has to face a possibility she really doesn't want to face]

You know I have to ask what happened, right?

[He puts his hands up in that playful "I surrender" sort of way. She wins this round.

But dang, now he's kind of set himself up for story time, hasn't he? In all fairness, it wasn't like the whole secret identity thing was as important here as it had been back home. Still, he takes a quick look around to make sure nobody else is within earshot. He wasn't so sure he was okay with everyone knowing about him yet, but maybe it was better for him to be able to talk to at least one person about it.]

Okay. So, I ditched my date at Homecoming like, as soon as we got there, because I had to go fight her dad. He'd been stealing alien tech and building weapons out of it, and then selling it on the street, and I couldn't just let him, y'know?
