test drive meme # 37

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open October 25th, and apps are open November 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: PICK ON HIM
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

And this one is seasonally appropriate (wait, what time of the year is it in Hadriel? Oh well, who cares). Roaming the streets of the city is the pumpkin-headed ghost from the 1989 video game Monster Party.

This ghost is... actually kind of cute, with that white body and spinning pumpkin head. Besides, all it wants is to not be picked on! Maybe you guys can be friends? Or maybe not, since upon seeing you it will begin throwing pumpkin-shaped projectiles that hurt, like, a lot. If you don't get away fast enough, it'll be perfectly happy to kill you, too. All tricks and no treats - who decided that?!]

SCENARIO TWO: UNEXPECTED GIFTS
[You didn't think you'd ever see it again. Your teddy bear from childhood, the necklace your best friend gave you - or maybe something more prosaic. Your favorite flavor of soda, a brand new pair of those headphones you like. Whatever it is, you didn't expect to find it here, of all places.

Or maybe you're not the one who found it. Maybe you see it in the hands of someone else, someone you don't know. Or someone you do know - but can't stand. What the hell are they doing? That's your jacket, and you haven't see it in months. Better get it back... somehow.

This is a mini version of our Gifts from the Door event this month.]

C O N F U S I O N

SCENARIO THREE: THAT'S TOO CORNY
[You're not entirely sure how you ended up in this corn maze. Maybe going in seemed like a good idea at the time, but your memories are a little fuzzy about specifics, like where the hell you are and, oh right, how to get out of this maze.

You can see the sky above you - gray and looking like it might rain - but the corn is much too tall to see over. So what's the plan here? You don't remember how you got in, so you can't backtrack. Pick a path at random? Take every right turn? Say fuck it and push your way straight through the corn?

Don't worry, though - you're not the only one in here. There are plenty of others just as lost as you, and hopefully you'll run into each other. Maybe together you can find the way out!]

[For a moment she jerks violently, eyes wide and wild and her face thin and fearful. And then she flies back into the row, unsure of what to do. She's in her calmest mood possible with the situation at hand, strange worlds and missing wards, but finding herself with someone when she was certain she was alone is a still quite a surprise for her.

She doesn't come back out at first, instead getting a good look at the young man before deciding that he's not bad. Eyes glowing from the maze slowly cease their sickly haze as she calms, pondering him and his words. No, it's not a monster doll or magic beast. Just a mask. Nothing frightening there. He's a just barely a man at all, young and sweet still. A child, nearly. So she settles back through the corn and smooths out her skirt.

He seems like a nice young man. Worth talking to. Older than the children she usually finds, but still in need none the less.]

Forgive me, please. You frightened me. Silly, isn't it? A grown woman startling like that. [Her expression softens considerably, and she plumps up a bit. Not looking quite as feral and sick, a feeling of warmth spreading out from her in a gentle aura.] I've lost my children. Every one of them. How can I call myself their matron, if I can't even keep track of them? I've looked here, there, everywhere. Through this maze five times over. But they're gone. [She wrings her hands a bit, and sighs.] I'm nowhere near home, I'm afraid. And I can't remember what's happened to them.

[Sal is quite used to similar reactions so he doesn't move or try to say anything right away, simply withdrawing a little bit — a step or two back to give her more room, while he waits to see if she'll calm down.]

Don't worry about it. You're never too old to be afraid.

[He reassures her, though hearing that she lost her children and couldn't find them...oh no.]

Hey...it's not your fault. People just kind of end up in this place through no control of their own. I'm sure they're safe wherever they are...I'm really sorry you can't get to them, though.
