test drive meme # 39

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open December 25th, and apps are open January 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: HE MADE HIS LIST
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

You were hoping for something seasonally appropriate, right? Well, the Door doesn't know it's December, so this must be a coincidence - because this time, it's brought in the Krampus.

This creature is the opposite of Santa, and if you've been bad (and let's be real, who in Hadriel hasn't), it'll be all too happy to punish. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll just scare the crap out of you and give you some coal... or maybe it'll decide your punishment needs to be much, much worse. Don't you wish you'd been good this year?]

SCENARIO TWO: HADRIELITE VANDAL
[Last night everything was fine. You went to bed happy and content - well, as happy and content as you ever are. But this morning, as you stepped out of your house, something was wrong. Maybe you didn't notice it at first - maybe someone had to point it out to you. But there it was, in big bold letters: someone had painted an insult across the front of your house.

Maybe it's a rude name. Maybe an insulting comment. Maybe just a picture of a dick with an arrow pointing to it that says your name. Whatever it is, someone did it specifically to fuck with you. But who? And why? Maybe you already think you know who, and all you need to do is hunt them down. Or maybe it's time for an investigation. Or... maybe all you want to do is clean it off before someone sees.

Good luck. That paint is already dry.]

C O N F U S I O N

SCENARIO THREE: ALL FLIPPY-FLOPPY
[You didn't realize there was anything wrong, not until you saw that person you've always thought was your best friend. They seem the same as ever, it's just - you really don't understand what you saw in them anymore. They're kind of whiny, they're way less cool than you remember, and that hair? Ew.

It's not just that. You ran into your worst enemy earlier, and maybe... you were wrong about them? It really seems like they have some good points, and that annoying expression they always make actually seems kind of cute now. Maybe it's time to kiss and make up, possibly literally!

This is a mini version of our Your Best Enemy event this month.]

Said by who? Does anyone know for sure? Is there anyone else here who bears a Charter mark?

[Sword finally wiped clean, Sabriel sheathes it and kneels down to pet the Dog, scratching her behind the ears.]

And- who are you? There's Charter marks on your collar, but no bell... [And the collar doesn't seem to be a binding the way Mogget's is.]

Who ever put the words in that strange little box. And by people here.

[Because the general consensus does appear to be that things are as they are set out, although not everything may be told. The Dog is willing to accept that. After all, she skirts around answer left and right.

Her eyes do half close in pure bliss at the scratching, as she is already high in her books for the Dog not even having to try to wiggle a pet out of her. Still, if Sabriel does come close enough, she may well have a tongue darting for her cheek or the tip of her nose.]

The Disreputable Dog, unless you desire to get technical, although most people don't.
bindsthedead: (curious)

This box? [It's odd and flat and Sabriel can't see any hinges or sense any magic in it. But she also notes that the dog only answered her direct question.]

Why are there Charter marks on your collar? And why did you call me Abhorsen?
standformyself: (Share?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-01 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
That very one. It... is a means of communication.

[Very magical, if one were to ask the Dog. They seem to be able to do the most amazing of things. Like the fact that it still shows Mogget's name, which means the little white cat is somewhere around. Possibly sleeping, or catching mice-like creatures.]

You would need to direct those questions to my mistress. She's the one who did the spell.
bindsthedead: (curious)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2019-01-01 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
How does it work? [Sabriel has so many questions- who is the Dog's mistress, and is she in this place? Is it always dangerous? But a way to communicate with others... that's useful. Perhaps it's something like a telephone. Then she sees one of the names.]

Mogget- Mogget is here? Is Touchstone here too?

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-01 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
You push buttons.

[Otherwise, the Dog actually has no explanation for it. Some seem to be familiar with such a technology, and the Dog has even heard of moving pictures called movies. Her ears give a little perk and there is a slight wuffle from her.]

He is, yes. Seems to be keeping out of trouble.
bindsthedead: (art-speech)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2019-01-01 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Well she can't find Touchstone's name on the list, but Sabriel's relieved to hear that Mogget hasn't somehow gotten his collar off- which is presumably what 'keeping out of trouble' means.]

Good. This place... Is it always dangerous? Are there Dead, or Free Magic creatures here?
standformyself: (No bunnies?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-01 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't like where we came from.

[Free Magic and the dead do not traverse about like they would in the Kingdom. The Dog does settle, turning contemplative.]

It is not without its dangers, but it is not always dangerous.

[Sabriel curls her fingers around the Dog's collar, feeling the marks that lay on it and in it.]

That's a relief. And I can feel the Charter here as well. Is there a town nearby?
standformyself: (Share?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-01 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
[There may well be some familiarity from the collar, although the Dog doesn't comment on it, or give any insight in to who, or what, she is. Rather, she aims a lick at Sabriel's wrist before swinging her head back.]

There isn't much of a town, but there are stores and residences that way.
bindsthedead: (Art-Notice; Almost a smile)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2019-01-01 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Strange... the collar feels almost like a Charter stone. Sabriel stands up, reluctantly.]

Then lead the way. Perhaps we'll be able to find a map there. Are there any other Charter mages about?
standformyself: (is disreputable)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-01 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
[The Dog rises, stretching, before giving a shake of her head.]

There are some mages, I think, but no Charter.

[She starts to pad forward, giving Sabriel a look and waiting for her, before starting up again, matching the pace of the other.]
bindsthedead: (art-breath)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2019-01-01 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
But not Free Magic sorcerers or necromancers? Perhaps there will be no reason to take up Father's role here.

[Sabriel follows with long, fast strides. She's eager to reach civilization, or whatever passes for it here.]
standformyself: (. . . . food?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-01 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing that I've sniffed out yet.

[A few strange scents that she isn't entirely certain about, but that's not surprising. This place has many different things in it, many that the Dog hasn't seen before. Or smelled. It's all very exciting for her.

Although she gives the darker haired woman who bears a resemblance to her own mistress a side long look. It hasn't been her father's role for some time, the Dog knows.]

There is a little thing about death, in that those who die don't stay dead, but they come back alive, and not, well, dead. Apparently.
