Test Drive Meme # 1

Welcome to Hadriel's very first test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open September 24th, and Apps are open October 1st.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: ANYONE GOT A LIGHT?
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something on the rooftops watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to separate you from your group and tear you into pieces. In this instance, the door has managed to grab something truly horrific, and it's definitely out for blood (and brains) tonight.

Smokers are enemies in the video game series Left 4 Dead, who use their prehensile tongues to capture unwitting people and either drag them away for consumption or hang them up to strangle them. With all of the activity of characters trying to find out what's going on and where they are, there are more than a few of them, lingering in the shadows and waiting to try strike at anyone who may be lagging behind.]

SCENARIO TWO: YOUR HEART WILL GO ON
[You awaken in a windowless room, the walls strangely curved. The door, when you try it, is quite firmly locked. No amount of force is able to break through, so it seems to be sealed by supernatural means. Next to the door stands a slender pedestal, about as big around as a large man's thigh. At the top of the pedestal is a indentation, as if something were meant to go there.

But you're not alone in this room. There are two things with you: a person and a corpse. Pinned to the body is a note: Place a heart on the pedestal to leave. Tucked neatly into the corpse's pocket is a letter opener, small and not particularly sharp.

Did you have weapons or tools on you before? You don't now. But look at it this way: what better form of bonding is there than helping a friend or stranger dig a heart out of a corpse with nothing but a letter opener and your bare hands?]

H O P E

SCENARIO THREE: HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BREAK-IN TODAY?
[You're standing outside a storefront, colored glass set into intricate designs. It's beautiful, artistic, but more importantly - there's definitely food inside. Good food, too, by the glimpses you can see through the window. In fact - wait a minute - isn't that your favorite dish in there, just waiting for you? You've been searching for food for hours, it seems, and the city is bare. Your tummy is getting awful rumbly. What luck!

You try the door. Cruelly, it is locked. The food taunts you, just out of reach.

The glass is lovely, intricate, but it's just glass. Or maybe you know how to pick locks. Or maybe there's a back way in. Or maybe some passing friend will be able to help you. There's a lot of options here, if what you really want is a mouthful of the finest... whatever it is you like.]

For what?

[He came over to the door, watching her with a bundle of sheets that all but hid her.]

To make a tent? They might have one in here. Or one of the other apartments, if this is a tenant building. But good thinking. Never know what we might need. Maybe spread it out and we can use it to carry everything else?

[She had the instinct, which again made him wonder just how rough this girl's life had already been.]

[personal profile] whichend 2015-09-24 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, okay, but then we have to be careful that nothing inside gets stolen.

[ She had a bundle of things once, long ago in Flea Bottom, but she wasn't careful enough and everything was stolen the first night. She's not that stupid little girl anymore.

She looks around the apartment once more. ]

Although, if the owner's dead and we can defend the place well enough, we might as well camp here. It'll be more secure than the roof. We might even be able to lock the door.

Let's check the rest of the building first. Make sure it's clear of... that it's clear, and if there might not be a better base camp, so to speak.

[Translation: maybe one without a dead body would be nice for a kid to camp out in. He gathered up the cans and boxes of food that would keep that he'd found and brought them over to the sheets, setting them down and looking around for other things to add.]

I don't suppose you know what a lighter is, do you?

[personal profile] whichend 2015-09-25 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Very well. It's a big building, though.

[ Oh, Steve. Don't worry about the dead bodies. Arya comes from a family where their idea of a fun time is going to visit their dead relatives in the local crypts! And the House of Black and White has done more than its fair share of desensitizing her to death.

She shakes her head. ]
No, I don't. Is it an object traditional to the United States of America?

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-09-25 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
It is, but I'll sleep better knowing that there's not a room inside here somewhere with one or more of those things hiding in it. Wouldn't you?

[Let her figure it out. Sure, they could barricade the room, but why not clear the whole building? There had to be other survivors. Other people to keep safe. Having a full building they could check off just seemed... logical.]

Not exactly. I think it's something more used to the, ah, world I come from than yours. Or time. I'm not exactly sure. It's a little thing, about yay big [fingers held apart to show her] with a metal wheel and a plastic... well, plastic. You can use it to make fires quickly. Always good to have around.

[personal profile] whichend 2015-09-25 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She shrugs. ] The dead don't kill people. They're already dead, and I think we've fought off what killed them. It's nicer here, in a way. Fewer people trying to kill you. Just monsters, and the monsters don't really mean it, I don't think. They're better than evil people.

[ Better than Cersei, for sure. Or Ilyn, or Raff, or any of the other people in her prayer.

A fire-making tool sounds wonderful. She'll definitely keep her eyes out for that. ]

It sounds useful. Shall we try the next room, then? Maybe there'll be fewer corpses.

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-09-26 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[It hurt a part of him to hear her talk like that, because it was far too adult for a child to know. Attributing monsters as less evil than bad people was... well. He hadn't expected to hear that from someone her age. It made him a little sad.

Then she moved topics and sounded so incredibly blase about corpses that he had to huff out a laugh.]

Sure thing. Let me just bundle this up and we can go.

[Food and other bits of things lay in a small pile in the middle of the sheet and Steve grabbed the corners to make an overlarge bindle out of it. No stick to sling it over the shoulder, but he had a feeling that they'd be filling the large bedsheet with more things as they went. As it was, it was a small lump of things, so he thought the girl could carry it easily enough. And it would let her know that he didn't think she was incapable of helping or being useful. That he trusted her.]

You got that?

....if steve learns what her last name is though

[personal profile] whichend 2015-09-26 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Arya grabs the bundle and slings it over her shoulder. It's light enough, much lighter than the buckets of water she had to carry all through Harrenhal. She smiles up at Steve, a true smile, and nods. She's glad to be useful. She's starting to trust Steve, too.

She just hopes he doesn't leave, or worse, die. Like the others did. ]

Yes. Ready to move on!

americanclassic: (Smile - 2)

goddamn starks. y u always messing in his life?

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-09-27 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's got that and he gets the door, closing it behind them so that it can stay 'safe'. Then they move on to the next apartment. And the next. There's more sheets, more bundles of useful things they gather up and Steve has a majority of it slung over his shoulder, but he makes sure she has something to carry, lets her crawl into the smaller places to check things out, trusting that she's a survivor type and will know to get out of a bad situation before it's too late.

And look, he found a few lighters.]

B)

[personal profile] whichend 2015-09-27 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The small places are Arya's favorite. She's had practice being a mouse, after all. Mostly, she's just found lots of lint and a few rat and insect corpses, but she's also found what looks like money. Seems like whoever used to live here had to leave in a hurry. In one of the apartments, she finds a small, but sharp paring knife. ]

Do you have a blade?
americanclassic: (Look - 4)

=)

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-09-28 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
[He patted the military issue knife tucked horizontally at the back of his belt, nodding.]

I know you've got your, ah, sword, but I'd rather you have more weapons if you need them. Or if we come across someone else.

[He had his shield, after all.]

[personal profile] whichend 2015-09-30 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Arya nods at Steve's knife appreciatively. Now that's a knife. The United States of America must treat their Knights well. She wraps the knife in a towel and slides it with the rest of her things. ]

My sword's named Needle.

[ Needle's not just a sword, after all. It's home. It'll always be her weapon of choice, but it's good to have a backup, too. ]
americanclassic: (Judging - 1)

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-10-01 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
You named it?

[Of course she named it. That had always been a thing, hadn't it? People naming their swords? Heck, he knew guys in the army that named their weapons too. Knives, guns, batons... all given affectionate names in some leftover sense of a name giving something more power. Funny, he'd never thought about naming his shield.]

Why Needle?
