Test Drive Meme # 1

Welcome to Hadriel's very first test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open September 24th, and Apps are open October 1st.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: ANYONE GOT A LIGHT?
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something on the rooftops watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to separate you from your group and tear you into pieces. In this instance, the door has managed to grab something truly horrific, and it's definitely out for blood (and brains) tonight.

Smokers are enemies in the video game series Left 4 Dead, who use their prehensile tongues to capture unwitting people and either drag them away for consumption or hang them up to strangle them. With all of the activity of characters trying to find out what's going on and where they are, there are more than a few of them, lingering in the shadows and waiting to try strike at anyone who may be lagging behind.]

SCENARIO TWO: YOUR HEART WILL GO ON
[You awaken in a windowless room, the walls strangely curved. The door, when you try it, is quite firmly locked. No amount of force is able to break through, so it seems to be sealed by supernatural means. Next to the door stands a slender pedestal, about as big around as a large man's thigh. At the top of the pedestal is a indentation, as if something were meant to go there.

But you're not alone in this room. There are two things with you: a person and a corpse. Pinned to the body is a note: Place a heart on the pedestal to leave. Tucked neatly into the corpse's pocket is a letter opener, small and not particularly sharp.

Did you have weapons or tools on you before? You don't now. But look at it this way: what better form of bonding is there than helping a friend or stranger dig a heart out of a corpse with nothing but a letter opener and your bare hands?]

H O P E

SCENARIO THREE: HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BREAK-IN TODAY?
[You're standing outside a storefront, colored glass set into intricate designs. It's beautiful, artistic, but more importantly - there's definitely food inside. Good food, too, by the glimpses you can see through the window. In fact - wait a minute - isn't that your favorite dish in there, just waiting for you? You've been searching for food for hours, it seems, and the city is bare. Your tummy is getting awful rumbly. What luck!

You try the door. Cruelly, it is locked. The food taunts you, just out of reach.

The glass is lovely, intricate, but it's just glass. Or maybe you know how to pick locks. Or maybe there's a back way in. Or maybe some passing friend will be able to help you. There's a lot of options here, if what you really want is a mouthful of the finest... whatever it is you like.]

Heart-attack
[Trying to get out of the room had been an exercise in futility before Steve had tucked his shield back behind him, arm feeling the ache that he hoped faded before he got out of here. And he would get out of here.

Or, should he say they would get out of here. Seemed he wasn't alone in the room and he had to remind himself of that before he let himself try to rationalize his situation out loud. Him, a stranger, and a dead guy. The corpse had been searched and that note? Not particularly heartening. The pedestal hadn't seemed out of the ordinary before, but now? Maybe it was just perception, but he was looking at it like it was one of those sacrificial alters, even if the sacrifice had already been taken.

The intent was obvious; cut out the dead guy's heart and put it on the indentation. Steve wasn't particularly fond of the wording: 'Put a heart--', but as he had no intention of trying to go for a fresher one, that left him with the obvious. Defiling a corpse wasn't exactly something he was entirely comfortable with, but if it was the dead or the living... he knew which choice he'd make.]

You don't have to watch.

[But he'd have to. Spoken to the other party trapped with him, Steve eyed the corpse as he hefted the letter opener.]

Shattered Glass
[It was pretty. Like a church window without the mournful angels. Steve had been raised to go to church every Sunday like a good little God-fearing boy. It was that smaller, younger part of him that didn't want to have to break the glass. What if someone was watching, after all. He still had no idea how he'd wound up here or why, but small voice or not, he knew that his main objective here was to survive until he figured that out. Or found a way home.

With a silent mental apology to God and his mother, Steve's fist hit the glass, watching the pieces fall out and hit the ground with a sad-sounding tinkle. He really hoped that hadn't sealed his fate in any way, but food was food and he knew he wasn't the only one here. He looked around for something to wrap it up in. Maybe a bag or a blanket...]

Wildcard
[Maybe your character ran into him after he escaped, or while he's walking around with food and they've got the rumblies in their tummies. Feel free to slot something in there.]

hope!

[personal profile] esotericism 2015-09-19 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ god doesn't hear him (probably), but an angel shows up anyway. he's not much to look at, being small and scarred, and he walked instead of appearing in a dramatic ray of sunlight, but all the same, he's there. he'd heard the breaking glass, and honestly, a part of him wonders why he hadn't run away instead. that sound is rarely one with good associations. it means natural disasters, thieves, mobs, looters. and yet, in this case, it apparently means one large, hungry blond man. ]

There are probably bags behind the counter. [ maybe he shouldn't have spoken up so abruptly-- he knows his footsteps tend to be a little unnaturally quiet. still, it's done and.. ah.. maybe this was a mistake? nate would probably yell. you can't trust just anyone, he'd say. and yet, despite everything, it's still raziel's instinct to trust. ]

[He hadn't heard the other man (angel?) sneak up on him, so there was a jolt as the voice broke the quiet. But it was just a voice and it offered useful information, so Steve turned to offer the guy a nod, then went to look behind the counter for a bag or three.]

You hungry? It's not mine to ration, but I'd suggest only having a little now so it can stretch out.

[Steve planned on handing it out to those who needed it, but he'd definitely be preaching the wisdom of rationing until they could find another source.]

Heart-Attack

[personal profile] shwarm_after 2015-09-19 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
[They were in the middle of a Saw movie. That was it. They were stuck in a room that was too small with a dead body and no way out. Hell, Tony was half expecting to see the body get up or that creepy puppet to show up. But no matter what it was, Tony wasn't going to play a part in a B-horror movie. Maybe it was pride, maybe it was stubbornness, but he wasn't going to do it.

They'd pounded a the door-Steve used his strength and shield and Tony... well, tried. He been stripped of any and all tech. Even control nodes implanted in his body didn't seem to be working. He couldn't get a signal out to anything on his end and aside from the pedestal, there was nothing else in the room that he could use to get them out.

That left them with only one solution.]

Rogers, stop.

[There had to be another way. He'd find another way to get them out of here.]

[ooc: Yo, not sure what canon point you were going with, but I was gonna go somewhere mid-IM3 because the arc reactor could be fun to work with. But if you're going with AoU timeline, I can easily switch to that, too]

[Steve hadn't quite gotten to the horror genre yet, so the similarity was lost on them, but the seriousness of it certainly made itself known. The sick joy someone might be getting out of making them desecrate a corpse for freedom. He could only hope that the corpse had a heart and this wasn't some weird attempt to get the two living parties to go all gladiator on each other.

Make-shift weapon clutched in his hand, aimed at the already deceased, he looked up at Tony, brows furrowing.]

You got a better idea, Stark? Because I'm all ears. But if not... I don't think waiting this one out is going to work.

[ooc: tbh, I hadn't actually settled on a canon point for him quite yet (wanted to see how this went), but there's no reason they couldn't come from different points =) (I've been playing him post TWS mostly since I only recently got to see AoU.]

[personal profile] shwarm_after 2015-09-19 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
We're not waiting this out- [He dragged a hand over his face.] Just give me a sec, Cap.

[So whoever trapped them here wanted a heart. There was the obvious option, which was their new dead friend in the room. But it was almost too obvious. For all they knew, it could be a trap and there was a bomb waiting to be detonated inside that body. Yeah, it was a little farfetched, but nothing was out of the question when you were in the business of weapons manufacturing.

But that left them with two, very alive, hearts that neither of them were willing to part with.

That's when he got an idea-An incredibly stupid idea, but it was better and less messier than their current option. It was also less likely to end in a potential explosion.]

So whoever dragged us in here wants a heart, right? They never said who's heart, or what part of the heart had to be there... So just use mine.

[The look he gave the other man was incredulous. It didn't take him more than that fraction to realize what Tony meant, but he still gave him a sideways look.]

You really think they're going to make it that easy? By all means, please remove the electromagnet keeping you alive to test a theory.

[Because really, Tony... It wasn't necessarily a bad idea, but given their current situation, he had a feeling that whoever had tossed them in knew just how detachable parts were. But he also knew Tony and stubborn were like water and wet, so trying to talk him out of it beforehand was just an exercise in frustration.]
shwarm_after: (pic#7990798)

[personal profile] shwarm_after 2015-09-19 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, it's a nuclear reactor connected to the electromagne-You know, the details aren't that important. [At the moment.] But look, if you wanna dig through some guy's chest, then be my guest. I won't stop you.

[Actually, he probably would but that was beside the point. The body was too obvious. Sure, it was some twisted bullshit blatantly ripped out of a gore film, but there was no point to it. Someone took them here for a reason. So why drag them here and give them an obvious way out? It didn't make sense.

Or maybe Tony was just making this more complicated than it needed to be. That happened sometimes.]
I'm just saying we should give it a shot.

If it doesn't work, then we can go Cannibal Holocaust on this guy. You'll even get first dibs.
americanclassic: (Sitting - Thinking 1)

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-09-20 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
[He hoped he was capable of transmitting via his dad look just how much Tony was already managing to get on his nerves. No, he didn't want to dig into a corpse, but he also didn't want to stay in a strange room in a stranger place when they knew nothing about where they were or who had taken them.]

By all means.

[He gestured at the pedestal.]

It's your body to mess around with.
shwarm_after: serious arc reactor (Being away from you I found)

[personal profile] shwarm_after 2015-09-20 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Was Steve really giving Tony the dad look? Seriously? Didn't that ever get exhausting?] Keep looking at me like that and you'll get wrinkles, Grandpa.

[Tony pushed off the wall he was leaning against and past Steve to the podium. Alright, so they wanted a heart and he'd give them... not really a heart, no. But he'd give them something. Maybe it would work. Probably not.

He pulled the band shirt and long sleeved shirt he'd been wearing over his head and revealed the Arc Reactor in his chest. He looked from the reactor to pedestal. Alright, he could do this. He used to take this out all time a year ago, he could do it again.

He glanced back at Rogers and gave him a smile.]
Don't worry, I know what I'm doing.

[He twisted the Arc Reactor and it came out with soft click and a slight jerk of his body. He had a few seconds, maybe a little over a minute, tops before he'd start to go into cardiac arrest. He had to do this quick. He placed the reactor atop the pedestal and waited.

...nothing happened.

Well, crap.]

americanclassic: (Look - Side 4)

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-09-20 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[No, Tony, it didn't. He'd been perfecting it while dealing with someone's dad, so...]

You'll beat me to it.

[Yeah, yeah, pick on his age. Get a new schtick, Tony. Talk about beating a dead horse. He was old. He got it. Coffee shouldn't cost five bucks and women shouldn't wear... whatever they were obviously not wearing to beaches.

Tony took his shirts off, then went to the pedestal, giving Steve reassurance that Steve was pretty sure was actually meant for Stark himself.]

Try not to blow us up.

[He flinched at the sound of the reactor coming out of the other man's chest, watching with the edge of his nose wrinkling up. Eww, Tony. That was so unsanitary. Then-- nothing.]

Put it back in before I have two corpses to pick from.
shwarm_after: (Hey hey hey hey)

[personal profile] shwarm_after 2015-09-21 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[If he wasn't somewhat risking his life, he'd have had a couple of words about wrinkles. Some people just didn't appreciate the effort others.

He glanced back at the Arc Reactor glowing on the pedestal. Well, they didn't blow up, and nothing in the room had changed. At least that was plus? Then again, absolutely nothing had happened and they were still stuck here with a dead guy.

Fun.

Tony dead-eyed Steve as he made the comment about having a second body. He'd have snapped back with one of his own, but the sudden pain in his chest was a reminder that maybe he should actually listen to Cap for once. He picked up the reactor and slipped it back into place with a click and sharp breath. Life was fun when your life depended on a permanent night-light being installed in your chest.]

So we're moving on to plan two? [Don't mind him putting his shirts back on.] You can be in charge of the cutting.
americanclassic: (Side - Look 1)

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-09-22 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
[The command, such as it was, was actually given out of concern. He knew exactly why Tony had the reactor in his chest and what would happen if that magnet wasn't continuously powered. For all that they could butt heads, repeatedly, Tony was a friend.

An annoying jerk of a friend. And a comrade in arms. Another soldier who'd earned Steve's respect, albeit slowly and after what was likely a huge show of self sacrifice that he might not have expected from anyone else.

He had no idea what it was about Starks that rubbed him the wrong way off the bat. Probably privilege and means when he'd grown up... well, the way he'd grown up.

Still, he breathed easier when he heard that click and breath, when he heard the snarky little comment that told him everything, so far, was okay. Which, of course, had him looking at the corpse with a wrinkled nose. It wasn't the first dead body he'd seen. Hell, he'd left a trail of his own, all justified in his mind because of their own actions. This? He had no idea who this guy had been or what he'd done to deserve being tossed in a room to be used as some sick piece to a sicker puzzle. A heavy sigh, then he went over and gently lifted the shirt, as if the body could somehow still feel what he was doing.]

I hope you didn't have anything to eat before this.

[He hefted the letter opener again, offering a silent apology to the unknown body.]

You might want to turn away, Stark.

[And in this, he wouldn't hold it against him.]
shwarm_after: (to amount to anything else)

sorry this is late orz

[personal profile] shwarm_after 2015-09-23 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Lucky for you I forgot to eat. Don't think I'll be hungry any time soon, though. [Definitely not any time soon.

He watched Steve as he lifted their dead friend's shirt. Oh, he'd seen plenty of dead bodies before, but it was rare for him to see them this close. These days, there was usually a suit of armor between himself and the deceased. Apparently not today, though.

A part of him wanted to take the letter opener from Steve and do this himself. This wasn't some self-sacrificing thing Steve had to do alone. Granted, the guy was a sanctimonious ass at times, but nobody should have to reenact the Temple of Doom Heart Scene by themselves.]

Don't worry about me, I'll keep looking. [No. No, he wouldn't.] Think of me as your... emotional support.

10 points from Ravenclaw

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-09-24 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
[He looked at the body, trying to think of the least messy way to do this. Straight through would be a logical assumption, but he'd have to break through the rib cage, crack it and pull it open, exposing the insides to the room. He wasn't sure if the pedestal would accept the organ if it was damaged too much either, so he had to be careful. Under the ribs, up from the stomach. He'd have to shove his hand and arm up a bit, but it would expose the least amount of insides to the outside and wouldn't damage the heart.

Taking a breath, he moved to unbutton his shirt, rolling up the sleeve as he fought down the nausea of what he was going to have to do.

It was easier to snark back at Stark then to let himself think about this too much.]

Support's supposed to actually support you, isn't it?

[Letter opener in hand, he made a quick stab into the body, under the ribs and into the flesh. He could only hope he didn't perforate a bowel or anything to add to the slightly sweet scent of decay he could pick up.]
shwarm_after: (pic#8923674)

Re: 10 points from Ravenclaw

[personal profile] shwarm_after 2015-10-02 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I am suppor-

[Oh, no he wasn't. No, no no. The stench of decay hit his nose and he had to stop himself from gagging right then and there. Okay, maybe he wasn't the right kind of support for this. Maybe he was just going to observe and give a few pointers to Cap for this.

Tony was usually one to get his hands dirty, but this was something entirely different. Oil and mortor fluid? Easy. Blood and decaying flesh? No so much.

He wasn't going to puke. Not in front of Captain America. And if he had to swallow down some bile that had come up, well... could you blame him?]

You know what you're doing?
americanclassic: (Thinking - 1)

[personal profile] americanclassic 2015-10-03 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
If you're asking if I've done this before, no. But I do know basic human anatomy.

[Art, Tony. Steve was an artist and he'd learned about the human form long before he'd become a peak representation for it. He steeled himself, feeling the cold and clammy sensation of wet organs and fluids that were no longer doing what they should have been. The wet was slimy, congealed, which he wasn't sure was a blessing or not. He looked at the dead man's face instead of the gaping hole in his chest that he had his hand in, searching upwards with each push until... Yep, that was a heart.

It was next to impossible to carefully rip someone's heart out of their chest, but Steve did his best. Careful tugs to disconnect the heart from the arteries, then he cradled it in his hand, protecting it from anything it might scrape against as he moved to pull it out.

And there it was. A glistening lump of flesh that used to be what powered the human body. He pulled the shirt back down over the body, covering up what he'd done before he stood and moved over to the pedestal. The only thing he could hope at this point was that Tony didn't make some wise-ass remark.]

Whoa - hold up, big guy - [ and this kid is gonna put himself between him and the corpse - ]

- this could be a trap. There's no guarantee we're gonna get out of this place even if you went around stabbing and opening this dude over here.

[ to his credit, he's really trying to be calm, but the idea that someone's going to rip out a heart in front of him - or while he's in the same room - is just horrifying to kuroo. ]
