Test Drive Meme # 1

Welcome to Hadriel's very first test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open September 24th, and Apps are open October 1st.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: ANYONE GOT A LIGHT?
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something on the rooftops watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to separate you from your group and tear you into pieces. In this instance, the door has managed to grab something truly horrific, and it's definitely out for blood (and brains) tonight.

Smokers are enemies in the video game series Left 4 Dead, who use their prehensile tongues to capture unwitting people and either drag them away for consumption or hang them up to strangle them. With all of the activity of characters trying to find out what's going on and where they are, there are more than a few of them, lingering in the shadows and waiting to try strike at anyone who may be lagging behind.]

SCENARIO TWO: YOUR HEART WILL GO ON
[You awaken in a windowless room, the walls strangely curved. The door, when you try it, is quite firmly locked. No amount of force is able to break through, so it seems to be sealed by supernatural means. Next to the door stands a slender pedestal, about as big around as a large man's thigh. At the top of the pedestal is a indentation, as if something were meant to go there.

But you're not alone in this room. There are two things with you: a person and a corpse. Pinned to the body is a note: Place a heart on the pedestal to leave. Tucked neatly into the corpse's pocket is a letter opener, small and not particularly sharp.

Did you have weapons or tools on you before? You don't now. But look at it this way: what better form of bonding is there than helping a friend or stranger dig a heart out of a corpse with nothing but a letter opener and your bare hands?]

SCENARIO THREE: HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BREAK-IN TODAY?
[You're standing outside a storefront, colored glass set into intricate designs. It's beautiful, artistic, but more importantly - there's definitely food inside. Good food, too, by the glimpses you can see through the window. In fact - wait a minute - isn't that your favorite dish in there, just waiting for you? You've been searching for food for hours, it seems, and the city is bare. Your tummy is getting awful rumbly. What luck!

You try the door. Cruelly, it is locked. The food taunts you, just out of reach.

The glass is lovely, intricate, but it's just glass. Or maybe you know how to pick locks. Or maybe there's a back way in. Or maybe some passing friend will be able to help you. There's a lot of options here, if what you really want is a mouthful of the finest... whatever it is you like.]

A little bit, yeah. I'm just hoping the food doesn't end up being inedible.

[He reaches over to help pull, slipping slender fingers in through the gap. Surely there must be an easier way. Maybe the owner had a key of some kind, or there's a button somewhere inside. Anyway, Adam's pretty sure they're doing this wrong, but it's the only way they can do it, so it'll have to work.]

Careful of your fingers. We'll have to get out of the way quick if it starts to slide shut.

[But it doesn't seem to be about to do that, and in fact their combined effort is steadily pulling the door to the side. There's plenty of resistance, but it's going, slowly but surely.]

[gansey groans.]

Don't say that! Don't even think it. The food will be edible and we'll take everything we can and make sure Noah and Ronan get fed too.

[don't ask him how they're going to find ronan and noah in this enormous city without working phones. he hasn't gotten there yet. power of positive thinking and all that.]

I think this is going to work.

[of course, it's probably going to take them several minutes to get the doorway open wide enough to be able to slip through, and there's no guarantee it'll stay open, but these are bridges gansey is willing to cross when he gets to them. no amount of planning and forethought have seemed to do them much good lately.]
unknowable: (can you read my mind)

No doubt the universe will arrange itself to suit your needs.

[There's wry humor in his voice as he teases Gansey, but really, Adam hopes so too. Food would be very nice, is starting to feel pretty necessary, and - well. He's already tried to keep an eye out for Noah and Ronan, but there's been no sign yet. He's trying not to worry about it. Failing, but trying.

They drag the door open a few more inches, with concerted effort. He thinks it's wide enough for them to slide in - but they'll have to be careful.]

You go first. Try to keep pushing against the door as you go through, I'd rather not have us trapped on opposite sides.
mintly: (run past all the light)

[personal profile] mintly 2015-09-29 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You jest, but we did just end up here.

[because at least some small part of the universe arranged itself to his command, although saying it suits his needs is a bit of a stretch.]

Sorry about that, by the by. I didn't realize it was going to be quite that literal.

[he turns his attention back to the door. adam's right, he could probably squeeze through, if only just barely.]

Right, pushing on the door as I go.

[he rearranges his grip, slowly shuffling through the door. once he's in the middle of it, it's actually a bit easier to push than it was to pull, and he brute forces it a few more inches with his arms, enough to get his foot up and push it a few more than that. let it never be said that crew did nothing for him. he goes back to bracing the door with his hands, arms now partially extended.]

Can you squeeze through there? Or at least start?
unknowable: (begins to vaporize)

[personal profile] unknowable 2015-09-30 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think either of us did. I ought to apologize as well. I didn't realize what Cabeswater was getting us into.

[Or out of, or - whatever. Whatever it is that got them here. It could be worse, theoretically, but it's already pretty bad.

He watches Gansey, holding onto the door with all his strength, in no mood to let his friend get crushed or cut in half or something equally awful. Assessing the entrance doesn't take much effort. It isn't that wide, but Adam isn't a large person, all fine bones and a disappointing lack of real muscle.]

Yeah. Just hold it, and give me a second.

[He tosses his bag through first, not wanting to chance leaving it behind, and then he carefully fits himself through the gap, keeping pressure against the doorframe so it isn't entirely up to Gansey to keep it open. He gets through without disaster, at least.]

There - you can let go.

[gansey's arms are getting tired, so it's good when adam says he can let go. he slips the rest of his body through the door and lets go. it begins to trundle slowly closed--certainly wouldn't have crushed them, but they had no way of knowing it.]

Okay. Now, food. God, I'm starving.

[considering what they've been through, he probably shouldn't be, but he is anyway.]
unknowable: (the sooner the better)

[personal profile] unknowable 2015-10-06 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[So is Adam, and he nods in agreement. They're in the back of the store - or building, or whatever it is - something like a storeroom, small and without much it in. But the door from it into the rest of the store opens easily.

And there's the food. Quite a lot of it, luckily, and a wide variety. Adam's stomach rumbles, and he reaches out to pick up an apple, fresh and nicely red.]

I hope this isn't some kind of weird trap.

[But he bites into it anyway, making a sound of pleasure at the discovery that it is, in fact, a real apple, and a very good one.]
