Test Drive Meme # 1

Welcome to Hadriel's very first test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open September 24th, and Apps are open October 1st.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: ANYONE GOT A LIGHT?
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something on the rooftops watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to separate you from your group and tear you into pieces. In this instance, the door has managed to grab something truly horrific, and it's definitely out for blood (and brains) tonight.

Smokers are enemies in the video game series Left 4 Dead, who use their prehensile tongues to capture unwitting people and either drag them away for consumption or hang them up to strangle them. With all of the activity of characters trying to find out what's going on and where they are, there are more than a few of them, lingering in the shadows and waiting to try strike at anyone who may be lagging behind.]

SCENARIO TWO: YOUR HEART WILL GO ON
[You awaken in a windowless room, the walls strangely curved. The door, when you try it, is quite firmly locked. No amount of force is able to break through, so it seems to be sealed by supernatural means. Next to the door stands a slender pedestal, about as big around as a large man's thigh. At the top of the pedestal is a indentation, as if something were meant to go there.

But you're not alone in this room. There are two things with you: a person and a corpse. Pinned to the body is a note: Place a heart on the pedestal to leave. Tucked neatly into the corpse's pocket is a letter opener, small and not particularly sharp.

Did you have weapons or tools on you before? You don't now. But look at it this way: what better form of bonding is there than helping a friend or stranger dig a heart out of a corpse with nothing but a letter opener and your bare hands?]

H O P E

SCENARIO THREE: HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BREAK-IN TODAY?
[You're standing outside a storefront, colored glass set into intricate designs. It's beautiful, artistic, but more importantly - there's definitely food inside. Good food, too, by the glimpses you can see through the window. In fact - wait a minute - isn't that your favorite dish in there, just waiting for you? You've been searching for food for hours, it seems, and the city is bare. Your tummy is getting awful rumbly. What luck!

You try the door. Cruelly, it is locked. The food taunts you, just out of reach.

The glass is lovely, intricate, but it's just glass. Or maybe you know how to pick locks. Or maybe there's a back way in. Or maybe some passing friend will be able to help you. There's a lot of options here, if what you really want is a mouthful of the finest... whatever it is you like.]

[thom's been accused of a lot of things over the past year, but somehow 'hideous monster' has never quite been one of them. give the gary coleman lookalike kid time, maybe. or if his dad found out the truth about... anything, really.

for now he's just thom though. healing screw up extraordinaire. the kid who when asked how his power even works can't really offer a satisfying answer.
]

I don't really know, to be honest. [he says and then smiles awkwardly.] I'm kind of still learning. Basically I touch an injury or someone that's sick and my hands get really hot for a minute, and then when I pull them away again it's all better.

[a beat, and then:] Mostly. Really big things or lots of people can still sort of be a problem, I guess.

[Adam can't be too bothered by the non-answer he gets. He doesn't really know how his own magic works, and it's a lot less useful than healing. So all he can really do is summon up a thin smile in response. This guy seems more or less decent, if a little awkward, and Adam himself isn't the best with people either, though he fakes it pretty well.]

In a place like this, I'd say it's definitely useful, even if not for big things. You look like you've been able to stay mostly safe, though.

[Or maybe he just healed himself. Do his powers work on himself? Hm. Adam's interested, though partly as a distraction from the awfulness and monsters around him. Having something else to focus on really does help calm his racing heart and spiky nerves.

He holds out his arms.]

Thank you. Go ahead.

It's not that it doesn't work for big things. [thom tells adam almost idly as he lays his palms flat on the arm the boy offers out to him, letting his powers do their work.] Maybe it would be more accurate to say that they work too well?

It's just that bigger things have a bigger chance of sending me into a seizure or... [he pulls his hands away to reveal that adam's wound is cleared up good as new, and then takes advantage of his hands being free to scratch the side of his neck.] Or send other people nearby into a seizure and short out a power grid?

That was a whole children's burn ward in the hospital though, nothing like this. [and he waves vaguely at their surroundings, as if that's any sort of an answer.]

[Adam looks down at his arm. He's not surprised to see that it worked, not exactly, but he is - sort of impressed. These days he's pretty familiar with magic, but healing like that isn't something he's seen before, regardless of what down sides it might have.]

If it's that much bigger - well, I guess it's no surprise that it wouldn't be easy. You'd have to be pretty powerful to handle something on that scale without any effects.

[He touches his arm, inspecting it.]

That's really impressive. A whole children's burn ward, you said? Why did you try something like that?

[Not that it isn't admirable, but - well. It doesn't seem that smart.]

I... hadn't meant to? [thom's turning a little red at the compliment to his powers. he's still more or less getting a handle on them, but it's still nice to be told he's doing well, regardless.

the idea that his abilities could be considered powerful though was almost humorous. he couldn't even totally control when it came out yet, and he was basically useless on his own in a dangerous situation, outside of offering people healing support. he was trying though. that was honestly the best he could hope for right now.
]

I got dropped into the ward and then kids just started touching me and-- [a shrug. it's not a moment he can really communicate well. his voice goes sort of low and quiet now.] She said it felt nice, to touch me.
unknowable: (mass of blood and foam)

Huh.

[So it's not entirely under his control. Adam knows how that can be. Still, he's grateful - his arm wasn't that bad, but anytime he doesn't have to spend days healing from some sort of injury is nice.]

Well, thank you. It feels a lot better.

[He really doesn't want to pry too much into someone else's life, even if he is curious - and he knows this isn't really a great time. Who knows when one of those monsters might show up again? Adam's not much of a fighter, and it doesn't seem like this guy is either.]

Maybe you should try to get somewhere safe, though. Well, safer, anyway.
