Test Drive Meme #8

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open April 24th, and apps are open May 1st.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: DEAD FLESH BUFFET
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect chance to swarm around you and chow down. This time, the Door has brought in a group of rotfiends, from the video game The Witcher.

These unpleasant-looking creatures are necrophages, meaning they feed on the flesh of the dead, and if that flesh is in short supply they are happy to add to it. Normally found in groups, they are fast and difficult to corner. What's more, when on the verge of death, they have an annoying tendency to explode into a flammable cloud of poisonous toxins. You left your torch at home, right?]

SCENARIO TWO: MMM WHATCHA SAY
[There you were, just walking along the street, minding your own business like a good underground hell-city citizen, when all of a sudden you saw someone. It was like love at first sight - if by 'love' you mean 'deep burning hatred'. You've never wanted to kill someone so much, and why? Well, you're not really sure, but there's probably a reason! You'll just have to figure it out. Or not. Who needs a reason for murder, anyway?

Or maybe you're the one someone else has targeted. Maybe you know they're after you and you're desperately trying to watch your back. Why do they hate you? You don't even know them. Or maybe you do, maybe they're your best friend. Either way, this is a super awkward situation, and someone might end up dead. Hopefully not you!

This is a mini version of our Assassin event this month!]

H O P E

SCENARIO THREE: SCRATCH OFF
[This morning, you received a scratch ticket in the mail (who knew Hadriel even had mail?), addressed to you. The instructions are clear enough - scratch off three matching icons, and you win a prize! Sure, okay. But here's the grand prize: a one-way ticket home.

Unfortunately, try as you might, you aren't gonna win that one, but keep hoping! And hey, just think of all the other GREAT PRIZES you could win: an inflatable duck, a plastic ring to give your sweetheart, an empty can of Red Bull, a cell phone charm shaped like a strange green creature with a boner.

So what if you didn't win that ticket home? You got something almost as good: a shitty prize! Thanks, Hope!]

{Rage}

[The call to violence isn't anything new, nor the feeling of rage rising within him. Not when he lives with both on a regular basis, and it's almost a comfort to feel that old familiar anger pull into sharp focus. It's something familiar to hold against the newness of wherever this happens to be, and that's worth more than he really cares to admit, just at the moment.

But it's not anything he dwells on. Instead, he lets a slow - and not at all comforting - smile spread across his his face, as he sets about stalking his prey. This at least, he knows, and he can patient enough to find just the right point to let his target know of his presence. Delayed gratification is sometimes the best, after all.

It does not, however, occur to him even in the slightest that someone else might be stalking him, even as he stalks down his own prey.]

{Hope}

[Odd though the ticket is, even he can't entirely deny that it might be nice to be home. Or anywhere that happens to be close enough. True enough, there might not be anything much waiting for him back home, but what's the harm in trying?

Unsurprisingly, the ticket is not a grand prize winner, and so it that he's left with a plastic ring to show for it; a cruel reminder of how things could have been a century and change ago, for all that he sounds more disappointed than anything when he speaks.]

I had been hoping for something a little more interesting.

[By which he mostly means anything but this.]
bekommen: (i can't get no satisfaction.)

hope.

Well, hey man, don't stop believin'.

[Nick's own scratch card netted her a pack of cigarettes with only a single cigarette inside. It's enough to be shitty and mocking, but she's not too proud to smoke it all the same, leaning back against a nearby wall, savoring the taste of burning tobacco on her tongue. She's missed this more than she'd care to admit, having run out of her last stash months ago.]

Maybe that asshole Hope will finally decide to do right by ya if you just, you know - hope hard enough.

[If the sarcasm dripping from her tone isn't enough to indicate what she really thinks about all this, the punctuating roll of her eyes probably will.]

borneinblood: (that's not so bad actually)

Mmm, I think I'll pass.

[It's offered casually, as if the 'gift' Hope has seen fit to bestow hasn't stirred up memories long since buried. But even despite that, and despite the sarcasm in her voice - which he ignores with the ease of long practice - there is a fragment of something useful in her words. Something he can use to force the conversation down a different path, and he drops the ring into his pocket without a second thought. He might not have wanted it, but that's no reason to not hang on to it all the same.

And who knows. Maybe some use will come of it, at some point down the road.]

But tell me. What do you know about this... Hope?

[The entity, person, whichever happens to be more relevant, and not the concept itself, which he's more than familiar with.]
bekommen: (now you've made an offer.)

[personal profile] bekommen 2016-05-02 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope? He's a total dick. Real tightly wound, pain in the ass, needs to switch to decaf. You know the type.

[Surely everyone knows that type.]

Some people here like him better than Fear - and I can see why, 'cause Fear's a real creep and a half - but I say they're all assholes.

[She shrugs. This has been Real Talk With Nick Rivenna, folks.]
borneinblood: (that's not so bad actually)

[personal profile] borneinblood 2016-05-11 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Judging by the nod at her explanation he knows the type fairly well indeed. True, he might not actually say as much in words, but he figures there's no immediate need to. It's explanation enough and there's hardly any need to push for more, besides.

Or at least, not on that particular topic.]

I take there's more than just those two?

[Not that he can't deal with them both; hope and fear are things that have been nigh-constants in his life, although it's not usually him feeling the latter.]
bekommen: (and now the old ways don't seem true.)

[personal profile] bekommen 2016-05-12 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
We've also got Rage and Delight - you can probably guess what they're about. Tomorrow, though - who knows, they just keep coming back.

[Another shrug.]

I'm sure it's just a matter of time before we get the full set, whatever that looks like.
borneinblood: (it's a good day)

[personal profile] borneinblood 2016-05-18 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[He can indeed. And one of the two is something that he's more than familiar with besides. What that might end up meaning in the long run is something that he doesn't much feel like thinking about, just at the moment.

(And besides, it's probably not more than an interesting coincidence.)]

Seven is the traditional number.

[Although none of the ones really make even the barest beginnings of a cohesive set. Or at least, not any that he can see.]
bekommen: (now you've made an offer.)

[personal profile] bekommen 2016-05-18 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Is it? I only ever heard of the one. Never had much use for that guy, though.
borneinblood: (watching out of the corner of an eye)

[personal profile] borneinblood 2016-05-20 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
By certain counts, yes.

[Whether or not they're the same counts... that's something he expects that neither of them can be certain of. Not without going and directly asking, at the very least, and that's something he's not particular interested in doing, just at the moment.]
bekommen: (i can't get no satisfaction.)

[personal profile] bekommen 2016-05-23 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's sufficiently cryptic.

[Nick's back to rolling her eyes again. What's with this guy?]
borneinblood: (well that's mildly concerning)

[personal profile] borneinblood 2016-05-28 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Mostly, he's gotten used to not being particularly forthcoming. But even past that, he's not really very good at dealing with younger generations - he is, and perhaps always will be, someone who has at least one foot in the past.]

You haven't heard of the Seven Deadly Sins, even simply as a concept?
bekommen: (and now the old ways don't seem true.)

[personal profile] bekommen 2016-06-03 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Please. Everyone's heard of that. Even us atheists.
borneinblood: (that's not so bad actually)

[personal profile] borneinblood 2016-06-07 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
That'll cover wrath - or rage, if you'd rather - then. None of the others quite match, though.

[In fact, some of the others aren't even things that he'd call sins. Hope and Delight certainly aren't, at least. Which raises some questions, but that's nothing he hasn't dealt with before, in the long run.]
bekommen: (i'm sorry there's nothing to save.)

[personal profile] bekommen 2016-06-13 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe someone oughta tell them they've got their whole schtick wrong.
