Test Drive Meme #8

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open April 24th, and apps are open May 1st.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: DEAD FLESH BUFFET
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect chance to swarm around you and chow down. This time, the Door has brought in a group of rotfiends, from the video game The Witcher.

These unpleasant-looking creatures are necrophages, meaning they feed on the flesh of the dead, and if that flesh is in short supply they are happy to add to it. Normally found in groups, they are fast and difficult to corner. What's more, when on the verge of death, they have an annoying tendency to explode into a flammable cloud of poisonous toxins. You left your torch at home, right?]

R A G E
SCENARIO TWO: MMM WHATCHA SAY
[There you were, just walking along the street, minding your own business like a good underground hell-city citizen, when all of a sudden you saw someone. It was like love at first sight - if by 'love' you mean 'deep burning hatred'. You've never wanted to kill someone so much, and why? Well, you're not really sure, but there's probably a reason! You'll just have to figure it out. Or not. Who needs a reason for murder, anyway?

Or maybe you're the one someone else has targeted. Maybe you know they're after you and you're desperately trying to watch your back. Why do they hate you? You don't even know them. Or maybe you do, maybe they're your best friend. Either way, this is a super awkward situation, and someone might end up dead. Hopefully not you!

This is a mini version of our Assassin event this month!]

H O P E

SCENARIO THREE: SCRATCH OFF
[This morning, you received a scratch ticket in the mail (who knew Hadriel even had mail?), addressed to you. The instructions are clear enough - scratch off three matching icons, and you win a prize! Sure, okay. But here's the grand prize: a one-way ticket home.

Unfortunately, try as you might, you aren't gonna win that one, but keep hoping! And hey, just think of all the other GREAT PRIZES you could win: an inflatable duck, a plastic ring to give your sweetheart, an empty can of Red Bull, a cell phone charm shaped like a strange green creature with a boner.

So what if you didn't win that ticket home? You got something almost as good: a shitty prize! Thanks, Hope!]

[[ it's great :3 I am totally cool with him killing her at any point ngl! ]]

[ Moments pass where Kate can't breathe, fighting for air as lightheadedness threatens to engulf her. Her fingers claw into his arms and her eyes are wide and wild, survival and sheer, ever present defiance screaming at her not to simply give in.

So, when he suddenly, inexplicably begins to weaken - did she squeeze his arms that hard? She can't quite tell - Kate doesn't even wait for her head to clear of the dizziness caused by the lack of oxygen before attempting to wrench his hands from her throat, hoping to at least push him away, if not toss him clear out of the way.

(She can't even feel the burning in her ankle any more. There are more important things for her body to complain about, like the way her head throbs and the shaking of her overly tense arms - the only things, right now, capable of giving her a chance to get away.) ]

[ ur a three foot hedgehog who the fuck are you calling weak

She's free, her throat throbbing from giant red marks in the shape of hands hot and bright. Kate's jaw tenses as she looks down at him, at the venomous glare he shoots her. She could just run, dash off and lure him to the caves to deal with the monsters in there.

But he speaks like there's a war going on in his head and - against all her better judgement and self-preservation - there's a voice in hers saying that dragging him off to the caves right now would be more dickish than self-preserving. ]

... Dammit. [ Kate considers pulling out the rope at the bottom of her bag and tying him up, but whether she could manage it before he slipped out of her grasp is another matter entirely. So, plan #2: lead him to one of the spires and lock him in a room? ... Might be a better option. And out of everything, probably the least objectionable. ]

It happens here, sometimes. [ Although, not to her. Not yet. So far, Kate has seen nothing but happiness from the Gods. Happiness and booze. ]

[ Yeah, probably. Although, at least this is because she's sort of trying to do the right thing? Not just... Being dumb af? It's an improvement over years prior, anyway.

Kate's muscles relax, just a touch too much as he doesn't try to do anything. She hadn't expected that to work, not like that. But it did and now dragging him to the caves is definitely out of the question. Now- ]

Yeah. [ the attacks just before she arrived, now this... Yeah, Kate is expecting that this sort of event would continue. But, to the more pressing issue at hand; ] I think y'might need to be- isolated, I guess, until whatever this is ends. [ she swallows, and adds; ] Think I know a place.

[ Killing - whether out of self-preservation or orders - never really suited Kate, from the way blood makes her breath catch in her throat to the way it weighs on her conscience. She's more than aware that her past contains enough blood to paint the spire where she lives red and the thought is more than enough to keep her from simply dashing for the caves and hoping it distracts him. Even if he survives, she can't say the same for whatever's in there.

(Why are we doing this? We don't know anything about them. They might be no different than us.)

It would be, could be easier and safer to simply take him as an enemy and fight or run. But in a place like this, such an answer seems too simplistic. Too uninformed, like the sparse files thrown at her with kill orders years ago. It feels like doing so would play into the hands of whichever god started this fight. And Kate is tired of playing the good soldier, had thought herself free of that role since Rosenberg's demise.

But it looks like she'll have to fight orders - compulsion - yet again. ]

Not far. Follow me. [ The spires, at least, have decent locks to protect against free roaming beasts that may come into town. Whether he can break out of the place, Kate isn't sure, but it might at least buy her the time to disappear.

At the very least, a room like that is a better restraint than a rope.

She hops off, towards the towering buildings across the way, her hand lingering close to her hip bag.

(Just in case.) ]

[ It doesn't take all that long to get to the Spires, even at a slightly reduced pace because fuck this ankle decides to make itself known now of all times. She'll rest afterwards, if she's still alive anyway.

Inside, the building is a spiral of thin stairs, with numerous well-locked doors leading to different flats. Thankfully, whoever restored these saw fit to leave keys hanging from the keyholes, so it's relatively easy to see which doors lead to unoccupied flats.

(God, she misses her friends. She misses Marc in a burning way she hasn't since his funeral. He would be able to think up a better plan than this, hell, he'd have a much easier time fighting than this--)

Kate's hand remains against the flap of her bag as she ascends the stairs. Up several floors until she stops at a door. Most of the variety of deadbolts and locks are interior, but the key's lock seems to do a good enough job at keeping things secure, in her experience. She opens the door. ]
Here. Get in.

[ the stairs do absolutely suck tbh. And, really, Kate doesn't know if the door will hold, but it's supposed to protect against the crap that lurks in this hole in the ground so it can at least withstand attacks for a while. All she really needs is enough time to disappear. ]

Accommodation. S'posed to keep out the creatures around here out. [ The keys dig into her palm. She can keep these until there's some chance of whatever is fucking with people's minds is over.

If he doesn't break down the door first. ]
