In good news, Carlisle is informative and not completely useless, granted Shadow ever needs someone to heal him! Bad news is that he can be obnoxious, so no worries if you want to pass on CR for now!

It wouldn't be the first time someone has walked away from him -- whatever is IC for you! I'm pretty easy-going as a player and he is truly insufferable sometimes, so I just didn't want you to feel like you absolutely had to agree to anything that didn't sound fun.
