Test Drive Meme #10

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open June 24th, and apps are open July 1st.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: UNBEARABLE
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect chance to swarm around you and chow down. This time, the Door has brought in several bereskarn, from the Dragon Age video game series.

While they were once normal bears, these hideous creatures have been corrupted by the Blight into something terrible. They are larger than normal bears and have bone spikes jutting out through their skin, which leaves them with constantly bleeding wounds. They are easily enraged, and will attack fiercely if agitated. Have fun!]

SCENARIO TWO: CLAMOROUS CAVES
[Wow, it sure is weirdly foggy out, considering there's no weather in Hadriel. The sun's dim, the light's strange, and hey - is that an air raid siren? Oh shit.

Welcome to Silent Hill, Hadriel edition. When the siren sounds, the city changes into a twisted, darker version of itself, teeming with monsters and looking like something straight out of your nightmares. And if you're really unlucky, there might be a monster lurking in there just for you, your own personal demon ready to hunt you down. Let's hope you can stay alive until the city changes back!

This is a mini version of our Silent Hill event this month!]

R A G E

SCENARIO THREE: NO FLAMES PLZ
[This morning you woke up to a letter on your doorstep, addressed to you. Curious, since there's no mail delivery in Hadriel. Upon opening it, you discovered a carefully written letter containing a brutal takedown of something that means a lot to you. Something you really care about

Maybe they're trashing your favorite sports team. Maybe they're calling your hometown a trash pit full of hipsters. Maybe they're saying your boyfriend has weird hair. Or maybe it's worse than that - maybe they're saying that everything you've been working for is a complete waste of time, and you're an idiot for trying. Whatever it is, it's calculated just right to piss you off, and piss you off real bad. And hey. That letter's signed.

Maybe somebody will come by and talk you down - or maybe the person who comes by is the one who's name is on that letter, even if it might not quite be in their handwriting. What're you gonna do? Fight them? Lay an elaborate trap? Try not to let it get to you and talk it out like adults? Yeah right. Time for a reckoning.]

[Hopefully not, indeed. On one hand, an eight-foot-tall cyborged-up alien with glowing eyes (not to mention other bits) might be a little easy to mistake for a monster. On the other hand, she seems almost as startled to bump into the human, turning her huge glowing eyes down to him, then back behind her, then down to him. Frozen in place for a moment before finding her faintly mechanical voice, she hesitantly finds a few words.]

Oh. Excuse my encroachment. This mercurial mist must be causing the most terrible turmoil across the town.

[After bashing right into her, he stumbled back and regained his footing before looking up. That did nothing to alleviate any fears. He had no idea what he was looking at. He had seen many types of humanoids. Some were other people and some were monsters. He had never seen anything like her.

The eyes reminded him of the race of people who took after butterflies, but beyond that he couldn't place anything. Since he'd never seen anyone who looked like her, he instantly took her for a monster that must be found in this new area. But he wasn't a tank or a melee fighter, so the first thing he did was dart a few yards away to put some distance between them.

It was only when she spoke that it gave him pause. He could have let loose some spells, he was ready to, but monsters didn't usually chat. It didn't entirely have him convinced of her personhood, but he did stop to try and parse her words, repeating them aloud in a quiet voice.]

En... encroachment...?

[He considered the context in which she had been using it and thought he got it. It wasn't the only odd thing she'd said, though.]

Mer... curial...

[He thought mercury was a metal or something. Was there metal in the fog?

While slightly distracted, he did his best to stay in an alert state. It was as if someone was trying to pay attention to a threat while explosions occasionally went off nearby. He would focus on her, and his attention would waver momentarily as he mulled over what she said, until he remembered that there was something dangerous he should be watching. Cowering in fear didn't make him the most intimidating of foes, but he was about ready to blow things up and run for his life if anything looked bad.]

[Under other circumstances, Cdzislava might have had less time for the human stuttering. It wasn't the first time she'd seen discomfort with the Mordesh 'condition' -- or at least, that was how she viewed it.

But not only had all of her beloved little robots wandered off somewhere, even more troubling was the fact that her scanbot was missing. It was programmed to flee in case of danger, to preserve valuable data... but if that was the case, this didn't bode well at all. Could it even find its way back to her lab? Her own datachron seemed flummoxed when she'd tried to use it to get her location earlier. Something was up, and although her speech was unhurried, there was a definite edge of unease in the modulation.]

Mystifying. Unpredictable. Confusing. Certainly I seem to have lost some little compatriots in it.

[To say nothing of little glimpses of something horrible that seemed to be following her. She was sure of it. Mechanics quietly whirred within each glowing eye and she looked nervously behind her again. Although it didn't seem like this human knew any better than her what was going on, he was the first person she'd seen out here, and any company was better than wandering alone out here.]

Come. Surely there is somewhere in the vicinity to verify our whereabouts and free ourselves of this fog.

[She spoke again. He was sort of getting the gist of what she was saying. Some of it reminded him of the way Hatter spoke, but she seemed to mix in a larger amount of unusual words.]

Are... Are you a person?

[He didn't realize how offensive that could sound. To him, it wasn't that unusual. NPC or player? He knew that some people were like him, and some were kind of like soulless mimics, though they couldn't lie about being real people.

But at the very least she didn't seem to be a monster.

He was still scared but easily influenced by commands. Brows furrowed, he edged forward cautiously, staff still raised in his hands as if it would shield him. He was far less aware of other dangers that might be around than she was. So far, she was the scariest thing he'd seen.]

[Well this is a new low, maybe even somewhere past 'space zombies'. Just when she thought she'd gotten used to the rougher ways of exile humans... it's hard to not flash a disdainful sneer, but she makes a valiant attempt, lip curling just a little back from sharp shark teeth.]

Excuse me? I can appreciate that you may have issues or simply inexperience with my kind, this intensity of insult is simply intolerable, and were we--

[Unfortunately, her voice is drowned out by the sudden and extremely loud rising wail of a siren...]
shy_mage: (Concerned)

[Bracken's eyes widened and he stopped going towards her. He'd said something wrong. He wasn't sure exactly what or why it was wrong, but it was obvious she was mad at him. He wasn't one to try and defend himself. He was sure it was his mistake - something he didn't understand but should have.

He shrank back, immediately responding meekly.]

S-Sorry...

[He wished he could contact his friends, ask them what he did wrong. They would understand. He didn't know he was in a new world, where his words would have entirely different connotations.

He would make staring at the ground his new favorite past-time, but things just seemed to keep getting worse and some sort of loud siren was blaring, so he scanned around instead. It looked like the whole place was glitching out - which might have explained why nothing was working right. Pieces of the ground started floating up to the sky and disappearing, and the buildings looked like they might be melting. He'd never seen this happen in any other area before.

Normally he'd stay in place. Be scolded, or whatever was in store for him. But if something happened, if he was erased, he didn't think he could come back like other people did. He didn't want to die because of some sort of bug in the world. His survival instincts fought his submissive demeanor and he started backing away from the evaporating city.]

I-It's glitching!

[His voice was strained when he warned her, and the only thing keeping from bursting into a mad dash was a feeling of obligation that he shouldn't abandon someone. He kept fearfully backing away, waiting for her to get out of there.]
