Near, being the paranoid reclusive weirdo that he is, typically only leaves the house for supplies. Which he kind of has to do because Mello went and murdered someone and had to go on the run for a while. You know how it is. If he's left the house, he's most likely to be getting stuff at the shops or at Sorrow's orchard.

So they could run into each other scavenging for supplies! That seems most obvious to me.

It works wonderfully. Thank goodness something forces Near to leave the damn house every few days. It's been almost a whole month since Mello's been on the lam and Near hasn't starved yet. He's clearly so good at this adulting thing now.
