test drive meme #13
Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open September 24th, and apps are open October 1st.
Two quick points here as well:1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!
Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R
SCENARIO ONE: DON'T LOOK AT ME
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.
Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect chance to hop right on you and chow down. This time, the Door has brought in several Boos, from the Mario video game series.
These monsters can be menacing, but are also incredibly shy. When looking directly at them, they will cover their faces and fade into the background- however, when turning away from them, they advance on you until they're in the perfect spot to take a nice big bite. The only way to defeat them is to escape this part of the level- that is, run madly away and try to keep up eye contact while you do so. They may look cartoonish, but those ghost teeth can be sharp!]
SCENARIO TWO: YOU'VE GOT RED ON YOU
[Hadriel is home to many things- temples, irate gods, angry citizens and... well, zombies, apparently. Beware as they start to walk/stagger/generally kind of shuffle around the streets of the city, since where there's one or two, there's usually a hundred more just waiting for the right moment to strike.
Zombies attack Hadriel by the dozen for this prompt, and nowhere in the city is technically safe from them! While they're not necessarily fast or intelligent, they have an advantage on you in that they have a lot more friends and they can't feel pain. So saddle up, bunker down, and try to survive the infestation!
This is a mini version of our Dead Men Walking event this month!]

SCENARIO THREE: CAPTURE THE FLAG
[Hey, what's Hadriel without a few mind-numbingly stupid games to forget the fact that you're in a murdercave that routinely tries to scare the crap out of you while also maybe killing you every once in awhile? You're not quite sure who came up with this particular mind-numbingly stupid game, but you seem to be playing, so get your running shoes on and grab that inhaler!
This is a game of Capture the Flag, and thanks to Rage, you're really starting to feel that competitive spirit. You're going to win- you have to. So what if you incur a few fouls along the way?
There's a red team and a blue team for this prompt, with both teams trying to protect their corresponding flags. Try to strategize to take the other team's precious flag, chase someone from the opposing team down, or just go all out and full body tackle that poor guy who got a little too close to your territory- it's all on you!]

Which probably doesn't help the breakdown. Especially when the answer was that she was dead, alive, fake and real, all wrapped into one. They say you shouldn't stare too carefully at a sun, and that still applied here. Will had more than enough of a shock. ]
You can't. Because you're already awake.
[ Yet he was already curling up. She was more concerned than anything, pursing her lips for a bit out of thought more than anything else. So she made the decision to place a hand on his shoulder and give a gentle nudge. Usually Trance is oblique more than bossy, but maybe he needed something firmer to follow. ]
You need to listen. These things are very bad, very dangerous, and they can spread their affliction to others. So you need to clean up, drink some water, and then I can bring you to someplace safer.

Flinching at her touch, curling up tighter for a moment then uncoiling as his sweating muscles cramped up. ]
... They'll eat us alive. That is their design?
[ If he was going to stop questioning the reality of those monsters and take advice from an upbeat purple woman, he might as well go the whole hog. Nodding his head, clambering to his feet and looking at the gore he'd managed to get covered in. ]
Then I thank you for your assistance. Please?
[ Nodding towards her water bottle, his arms held out before him. ]

So she tilts the canteen enough to provide a small stream of water, talking in the meantime. ]
That's right. Well, they'll probably continue after you've just died, but I'd rather get you somewhere else before it comes to that.
[ The smile fades however, as she observes his face better. It wasn't immediately apparent with the blood he had smeared on part of his face, but she was getting a better assessment of his condition. She even glanced over his entire self to make sure, though his symptoms might not be completely apparent. Like Will's empathy, it was almost a different kind of sense. ]
It doesn't look like you were bitten... The infection can get pretty nasty.
no subject
Spitting out into his hand... Nothing. Thank God for that. The relief left Will like shedding a wet clay jacket. ]
I think they assumed I was one of their own.
no subject
So she held the canteen out, offering it as a drink now. There was still water left inside it, after all. ]
That's some good news. Other than shocked, I'm guessing, how are you feeling?
no subject
Thank you.
[ Nodding, avoiding eye contact as he handed her the canteen back. Will already knew how strange he might come across as, but he must have seemed like a total fruit-basket to this young woman. Great. ]
Heh... You sound just like my therapist. I feel... I don't know what I feel but it's unsettling to say the very least. I'm far away from home... I'm surrounded by the dead and otherworldly... How am I suppose to be feeling right about now?
[ Will might have sounded patronizing, but he didn't mean to. Gritting his teeth as he spoke, trying not to fall apart at the seams. ]
no subject
Oh, I don't really know much about that stuff. It's not my place to say how people should feel. See, before this place, I was the physician on a ship. It just looked like you might be sick... or coming down with something.
[ Because she totally has the air of a doctor. ]
no subject
I've had this horrible pain in my head... Throbbing, burning. Maybe that could be something to get looked at, huh?
[ Trying to shrug off the seriousness of what he was saying. Spying a look at the zombies still meandering behind Trance, they'd avoided drawing much attention to them since they settled by the crates, but how long would they really be safe for? ]
no subject
[ Well, at the very least, she knows that humans aren't supposed to be burning. Seeing his attention being caught by something else, Trance followed the look before returning her attention to Will with a cocked smile. ]
First, I should bring you somewhere safer. Those aren't exactly the immediate problem, but there will soon be one regardless. I'll take a path that's easier for you, but it's very important you keep with my pace as it'll change a few times. Probably.
[ Not that it'd be hard, but there were better chances for them if she said it now. One thing for sure is that she wasn't going to be going through the side that still has the zombies around it.
Never mind how she got in that way in the first place. If only because Will didn't see that.]no subject
[ Will looked at her, offering the most awkward of smiles. It wasn't as if he actually smiled often anyway so it always looked crooked and out of place on his lips, like a bandaged covering a wound. ]
... And here I thought this was just another dull day at work.
no subject
[ Well hey, he tried to give a smile, and she's certainly seen worse attempts. Which is why he gets one back before Trance sets off for another of the doors. She waits a few seconds before slowly and quietly sliding it open, poking her head out. Then she stays that way for what feels like a long time before the long tail sways a bit. Which is the only indicator before Trance dashes out and makes a hard right around the outside.
Lucky, because there's a lone zombie not too far from the left, which would have just shambled into view by the time Will came out to follow along. ]
Ready? Try not to focus too much on what they're doing.
[ When she said 'keep with my pace' it seemed to mean keep up with her speed as well because Trance barely finished saying that before sprinting straight across the wide road where there's a wide enough gap between the undead, but not enough of one to take your time. Right for another door, which she pushed hard enough to stay open long enough for Will to keep going uninterrupted. The building seems conveniently empty, too. It's not the end of this, no way things would be so easy, but Trance pauses for a moment to check back to Will.
She really hoped he didn't get caught up in seeing what a few of those zombies were distracted by. ]
no subject
[ Gesturing with his hands to the question about his job. She didn't need to know what he did for a living, he didn't want to be reminded at the moment either, distractions right about now could mean the difference between life and death.
Nodding, managing to take in all she said even though she spoke as fast as she moved. Will could keep up, he was only human but he'd been on missions for the FBI that had him thinking fast on his feet and keeping his toes moving.
What he didn't expect however, was how he'd react when he saw those zombies out on the streets again. Will stared as he moved swiftly past, stopping in the door Trance had left ajar for him. As he looked down at the zombie enjoying it human meal. he was reminded of someone; Dear little Abigail. The ghost of her father taking form as his mind started to play it's usual tricks on him.
He'd been standing there staring for a little while now, his survival partner might have gone on ahead without him by now. ]
no subject
This is why I said to not focus.
[ She returned to the door, making a grab for his hand so she could pull him back on the path. They didn't have the best amount of time, but even then she wasn't going to grab him roughly. Just something that had the briefest moment of warmth radiating to Will to hopefully reach enough senses to snap him out. ]
C'mon, you need to keep moving.
no subject
S-sorry! ... Yes, keep moving, good plan.
[ Nodding his head, looking back at the zombie as it shuffled away from its meal and more so towards their direction. Maybe they were making too much noise? Maybe this was more dangerous than his new companion was giving it credit for? Maybe it really was just a nightmare and if he went along with it, he'd wake up soon enough. ]
I'm focused. Shall we?
[ Gesturing for her to lead them on once more. ]

Depending on their timing, the next victim would still be alive enough to gurgle out a scream.
Giving a nod, the alien woman moved briskly but started to keep low, leading her new friend across the floor and through the next couple of rooms. Reaching a room that had no other door out and a wide window with a work bench in front of it, Trance took the initiative of climbing on the bench first to jimmy and open the window for them both. Choosing to give something of a warning, she kept her voice low but firm enough to be serious. Something which didn't quite fit the pixie-ish appearance. ]
When you land outside, you'll need to keep low, quiet and as still as possible until my signal. It's not going to be easy.
no subject
Uncomfortable with the physical contact, yet finding there was very little he could do about that, Will let her lead them onward. If they happened upon anyone still alive, still holding on to life and crying for help... Well, Will wouldn't be able to stop himself. For their sake, lets hope the dying died fast.
Will watched as she slipped out and propped the window ajar from him. Nodding to her advice as he slipped one leg out first, then the other. His landing was a little louder then he would have liked and just a tad on the sloppy side. Scraping his leg on the way down as well as landing on his ankle at a funny angle. Hopefully that wouldn't slow him down to much.
Whispering as he gained her attention. ]
Where to now?
