Well, you see, in order to be afraid of bad luck, you have to have something to lose, don't you? The very worst that could befall me at this point is physical injury. And I'm hardly concerned about saving my own life and limb, much less kissing a complete stranger to do it.

[And, actually, all of that is true. He doesn't have anyone he cares for, and he can endure physical injury extremely well. And, in the off chance he's killed, well, at least it was fun.]

[He's already had more than enough of it, let's face it. He looks awkwardly over, really not sure how to proceed. Another world surely operates by its own rules, though...]

[He doesn't care for your concerns, Kain. Not one little bit. Although, he might pretend to care a little bit longer if you do tell him what you have to lose.]

[He stands perfectly upright, as if daring the man to kiss him. Although, he's fairly certain Kain doesn't have the spine to force a kiss on someone.]

[Kain has a spine.... for battle. For charging at an enemy lance in hand and fighting them with all his might. He has no courage whatsoever when it comes to kissing or any similar physical contact. He's always far too uncertain, after his experiences. He frowns, eyeing the other man closely.]

It just... requires a kiss, then? And all bad luck is dispelled after that?

That would seem to be the case, yes.

[Yukari tilts his head slightly, watching Kain back.]

Although, it would have to be under this specific one. You can't kiss under another mistletoe and have the bad luck from this mistletoe dispelled.

Just this one. Fine, I understand. I'll have to keep watch where I go from now on until this season ends, though, clearly...

[Kain glances over and grumbles in a lower voice.]

I'm not very used to this...

[Yukari smirks a bit at Kain.]

Still though, you haven't told me what you will do.

[He's a little preemptive, just in case this man gets a little bold in the name of a little good luck. He might have to back down from his dare.]

[Kain straightens up, acting all stiffly about the whole matter. He clears his throat. Yeah, no, he has no idea what he's doing. But what's the harm? If it'll help matters, it has to be done.]

If we must kiss to prevent this bad luck from befalling us... then so be it. If you're not against it.

[Yukari's eyebrows actually go up, both in amusement and disbelief. He was expecting many things. But being asked permission wasn't exactly one of them. Yukari's eyebrows go back down and he chuckles.]

You know, it is dangerous to buy so easily into whatever you're told. Someone could really take advantage of you.

[It's definitely not something Kain wanted to hear, given his past and the ways he's already been manipulated. He doesn't need to go through anything like that again.]

I got you to believe that you would have to kiss me, and all I said was it causes bad luck if you don't. If I had deeper ulteriour motives than just pulling your leg, I could have done many things to you. You probably would have even slept with me if I worked my way up to it.

And I didn't have to try very hard at all for you to accept what I was saying, did I? Even though you were visibly uncomfortable, you didn't attempt to deflect any of my lies. You are very gullible, and I must say it's quite obvious. I'm sure plenty of people have already taken advantage of you, haven't they?

[Readily manipulated? Easily led astray? Why does it all seem like the same thing? Kain very much hates to admit that such a thing could ever be true. Yet it had happened, hadn't it? He'd let himself be deceived yet again.]

Never mind that. It was simply that you sprang a clever trick on me, and nothing more. I've never been taken advantage of in my life.

'A clever trick?' While I certainly appreciate the flattery, I think it's only fair to give credit where it's due. You were much easier to manipulate than most I've dealt with.

[How delightful that he gets to taunt Kain further, even after the initial prank is over.]

If you want, I can break you of that nasty habit. So you can tell when people are taking advantage of you.
