Test Drive Meme #3
Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open November 24th, and apps are open December 1st.
Two quick points here as well:1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon!
Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R
SCENARIO ONE: GIMME A HUG
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.
Watch out as you explore the streets of Hadriel, because you're not alone, and there's always something on the rooftops watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to separate you from your group and tear you into pieces. This time, the Door has brought in a large slithering beast for you meet.
This Titanoboa is not the friendliest of snakes. Over fifty feet long, it requires quite a lot of meals in order to keep going, and it seems to be most interested in making you one of them. A giant anaconda, this is a constrictor rather than a venomous snake - but don't worry. It's got teeth, too, in case it needs to do a touch of nibbling. We're sure you'll get along just fine.]
SCENARIO TWO: THE DOCTOR IS IN
[You awaken on an operating table. How did you get here? What's going on? You don't remember checking into a hospital or seeing a doctor, and when you try to get up you quickly discover that your hands and legs are secured tightly to the table, the straps digging into your skin.
Next to the table is a tray of gleaming steel surgical instruments, their sharp blades glittering as the overhead light flickers. They seem to be the only clean thing in the room, as you begin to realize that the walls of this operating room are moldy and stained, and there's something dripping from the ceiling. This may not be a legitimate hospital at all.
There are footsteps outside the door. It could be a friend - or not. Will you call for help? Try to free yourself? Lay back and wait for the doctor to arrive?]

SCENARIO THREE: HOPESGIVING
[You find yourself in a kitschy, brightly lit, utterly pleasant gift shop. Lining the shelves are all manner of stuffed animals, inspirational figurines, greeting cards, and delightful ornaments. Some even look familiar, like something you might have seen before.
The door isn't locked. You can just leave, if you want. But on a pedestal where the registers should be is a globe of glittering light, and within it, a picture of the person you care for most in the world. Carved on the pedestal are the words Bring someone hope, and you will bring them happiness.
Of course, you aren't alone in there. Will you find something on the shelves to show to your companion, something that might bring them hope? Or maybe you brought something from home. Or maybe you don't care at all, and just want to smash everything in there. It's all up to you.
This is a simplified version of this month's Hope event.]
no subject
Excellent. With me, then. [ His presence is reassuring, though she could bet on his not being happy to be here. It isn't as if anyone is, really.
Cecily nods once, still watching the monster like- well, a hawk. She begins to move, also looking out for the Champion, just in case, as he's thinking, that the creature lunges. ]
Careful. [ Comes the soft warning. She's seen enough of Hadriel's workings to know that any second could make the difference for its prisoners versus its nightmares. ]
no subject
But first he needs to keep this giant snake from eating him.]
Careful. Right. I can do careful.
[Sometimes. If he tries really hard.
Bit by bit, Hawke continues to cautiously back away from the creature.]
Tell me you have some kind of plan.
no subject
[ Because it involves the only solution that's worked thus far; running away. She'll explain after, when he's unhappy with her, how they've tried fighting, arguing with their "gods," and an assortment of other potential fixes that, if anything, just make the monsters more angry.
And, more importantly, do nothing to get them home. ]
You'll have to trust me. [ She says quietly. Can he trust the woman who'd chosen to leave someone behind in the Fade, even if it had been to save his life? She isn't sure that she would, herself. ] And run.
no subject
You know, I did trust you right until you said that.
[He gives Cecily a look and sighs heavily.]
Here we go with this again.
[Then Hawke turns and sprints like his life depends on it, because he knows behind him there's fifty feet of muscle and scales that wants to eat him whole.]
no subject
[ At least he reacts just as quickly as he had last they met. When he moves, so does she, dashing off with the enormous reptile at their backs. The only real advantage that they have is her knowledge of the city, which has the pair of them slipping down a side street just ahead of the Titanoboa.
Cecily tugs him into an alcove with a sharp jerk, indicating that they should slip into the vacant, unlocked shop. Afterward, she shuts the door and presses her back to it, gradually catching her breath.
The Inquisitor's eyes flit to the door; the enormous snake surely knows where they are, but as it slithers past, she exhales in relief. ]
We're too much trouble. [ She breathes, looking over at Hawke. ] With so many others-... Well. At any rate, they don't seem to hunt in the center of town so much.
no subject
While the snake waits outside Hawke never says a word. He only continues to catch his breath, but his body remains tense, ready should the beast try to force its way inside. When it finally leaves he lets his head slump forward.]
All we are is trouble.
[He smirks, but it fades when he considers the rest of her words. That confuses him slightly.]
Center of town? There are towns in the Fade now?
[Because honestly where else would they be?]
no subject
... Ah. In all that fun, I'd forgotten that you've just arrived. [ And that he's due an explanation, at any rate. With an apologetic sort of look, the Inquisitor crosses her arms over her chest, mirroring his stance as she sets herself against the counter. Oddly enough, the store is still full of little things, mostly useless, as if the shop had only just closed for the day. ]
This isn't the Fade. [ Were it only that simple. ] We're in Hadriel, and... I'm afraid it seems like an extended stay. I've been here... three months, already.
[ Long enough to know that she isn't waking up or escaping soon, despite having already begun to incite sedition. ]
The beings in power here claim to be gods, Hope and Fear. Mostly, I think we're caught in the middle of their bickering, really, and they say they aren't responsible for our arrival.
no subject
Hawke slowly stands and brushes some of the dirt of his legs before facing her again.]
What in Andraste's burning bush are you talking about?
[Things are just making less and less since to him as time goes on.]
I know for a fact I haven't been on the road to Weisshaupt for that long. In fact I'm pretty sure Thedas would have shaken itself apart if you were gone any longer than a week. It'd be like a bunch of headless chickens trying to run a farm.
[He leans a bit closer to her, inspecting her.]
Are you ill? Do you have a fever? Should I be covering my face?
no subject
Time is... strange, here. [ She thinks back to compare it with something, but there isn't much. ] They say things from our homes are frozen, or something like it, while we've been taken. And that when we return, it's right back to where we'd been.
[ And then there's the matter of Cullen being from two years in the future, but she isn't about to touch on that. ]
So, not ill; just a free-range prisoner, for the moment.
no subject
None of this makes any kind of sense to me.
[He's in a place that's neither the Fade nor Thedas apparently with new gods that sound just as annoying as the ones they have to deal with at home.]
I miss the days when stabbing things solved nearly all of my problems. This new mess of troubles makes me not want to get up in the morning.
[Taking a deep breath, Hawke lowers his hand and gives her a serious look.]
Alright, before I take your word that any of this is true I have one question. Can you prove to me that you're actually the Inquisitor?
[No offense, but he remembers running into a spirit that disguised itself as the Divine Justina not long ago. Hawke just wants to make sure this isn't a repeat.]
no subject
[ Aside from Hope and Fear, who she still distrusts. ]
You aren't alone in that sentiment. [ She chuckles, admitting another small smile. ] Well, the idea of things being simpler, at least.
[ Maybe not the stabbing necessarily.
At the question, she sighs, shaking her head. ]
I can answer any questions that may implicate me, or... I have the anchor. Warden Blackwall [ does he know about the truth? ] and Dorian Pavus are here, too. And Commander Cullen.
[ As if to imply: you can ask them if you don't believe me. ]
How should I prove it?
no subject
None of that disappointment shows though as he just smirks at her.]
I think the anchor is enough. The power to shut giant, demon spawning holes in the sky seems to be fairly unique to you. Not sure how a look alike would even replicate that.
no subject
[ Still, she extends a hand, stripping the shooting glove from it, turning it palm-side up for him to examine. ]
I'm afraid to say I can't make it spark at will, but the odds are that it'll happen sooner, rather than later.
[ And the actual mark is still there, the crescent shape of the anchor embedded within. ]
It'd make for a brilliant party trick, though, if I can manage it.
no subject
[Seeing the mark is enough for him. Sure it wasn't exploding with weird magical energy at the moment but that's probably for the best.]
You could make your very own stay at home fireworks show.
no subject
[ But, since they'd defeated him, she can rest a little more easily. Never mind that she's seen a phantom Corypheus since then, in Hadriel. ]
I knew Varric would only bring on allies with fantastic ideas. [ She smirks, deeply grateful for Hawke's presence at the moment and, really, for his easy acceptance of her identity. ] Though, not inside, I think. The fire hazard might be a bit much.
