Test Drive Meme #29

Welcome to Hadriel's test drive, and thank you again for your interest in the game! As always, our reserves page is here, and our applications page is here! Reserves open February 21st, and apps are open March 1st. Please remember that there is an app cap of 20 apps.

Two quick points here as well:
1. Any thread made in Hadriel's test drive will be accepted as the sole Action Log sample in the application.
2. All threads made in the test drive can be considered game canon, either through handwaving or through a shared mental experience while coming through the Door!

Test drives will be broken up into specific god mini-events, during which your characters can see how well they fare under the watchful eye of one of the gods. Choose wisely or just simply pick 'em all, and have fun!

F E A R

SCENARIO ONE: FRACTURED FUTURE?
[The Door brings in all that is chaotic and evil in the world. This may include you, may include the person next to you... and may include the monster behind you.

This time, the Door has decided to bring in some monsters who already have a taste of what it's like to win their war. Welcome to the Risen, from the Fire Emblem franchise!

Risen are reanimated corpses, dedicated to obeying their master's will. While they have some form of sentience, they cannot be dissuaded from their goal and attack all who oppose them with a singleminded desire to execute their purpose, which unfortunately for you is "killing indiscriminately". Still, they're not all bad and some of them may even be relieved to finally be put to death. Have fun!]

T R A N Q U I L I T Y

SCENARIO TWO: ONLY THE GOOD STUFF
[Tranquility has decided to take over Hope's food supply regimen and- well, if anyone thought he was a self righteous hipster before, this is probably what's going to seal the deal. All the food provided in the shops is now extremely vegan-only, from basic lettuce to the most bland fruit you can stand to look at.

None of it even tastes like anything, either- it's all like you're eating water. Maybe to Tranquility, this is a feast, but for you, it's difficult to register that you're even full. Better start prepping those salt mines- it's gonna be a long month.]

R A G E

SCENARIO THREE: YANDERE LIFE
[Unfortunately for you, you came at a time when Rage was very unhappy with everyone- and now you get to suffer for it. Is there anyone who catches your eye? Anyone who you might want to get to know a little better? Well, you're about to get to know them a lot better, because now you're obsessed with them.

It's not the innocent kind of obsession, either- this is a full speed ahead, breakdown, pull out the knives and rope kind of obsession, where your desire to be near someone is synonymous with stalking, being a creep, and overall just not really anything remotely approaching healthy.

Better look out and hope that nobody gets a crush on you either.

This is a mini version of our Kiss me Kill me event this month.]

"Yes, I am aware." However, Lent at the castle was a bit more than lettuce and fruit. So, he could do it. He just didn't want too. Also, it wasn't Lent. Maybe he if looked around he could find some bread to offset the vegetables and fruit. And something a little better than lettuce.

Kelson caught the fruit with his free hand easily, and looked it over. "I've never seen anything like this before. Do you know what it is and how to prepare it?" Assuming it was edible. He hadn't the faintest idea what it was, was it okay to eat raw or did you have to cook it first? He walked around, looking at what was available. He had to admit, most of it was things he didn't quite recognize.

"Beggars can't be chosers they say," he hums with a shug of shoulders. In a way he can understand the disappointment and frustration in the food situation. Eating only bland greens can't be too appealing, thought. Not that Edgar can relate to it.

"But I think it's something to look into. Who knows, maybe meat is sacred here?" He remembers meeting people around the world who wouldn't eat meat either from worship or loath.

"It should be edible. Why else wouldn't it be here in the pantry?"

Having never been anything remotely close to a beggar, Kelson not sure that's actually accurate for him. And he's never heard of the saying. But for some people it was accurate. Just not him.

"Perhaps. It's possible. We don't know anything about the culture here. I would suggest not making any assumptions, however."

Kelson however just shrugged at the mention of why would it be here if it wasn't edible. "I don't know. I haven't had a lot of experience cooking by myself." Or really, any. He'd seen enough cooking though to know the basics. Spit, pot, fire, water. It just wasn't exactly included in his education.

"Like I said, who knows. I'm just throwing in ideas." So far he hasn't even met anyone he could call a native, he thinks. Seems like 'gods' are only original people to this country.

"I only know how to make soup, I'm afraid." A very special kind of soup -- one that most likely wouldn't suit this man's taste.

As far as Kelson was concerned, those were most definitely not Gods. The entire ideas was ridiculous, although he would have loved to hear a certain Bishop's thoughts on the matter. Too bad. No. They weren't divine. Most likely mortal, who gained power and passed themselves off as divine. People believe it. He himself as well as his ancestors used their own magical abilities to claim divine right of kingship. Why shouldn't others do the same? Although Kelson drew the line at sacrilege.

"Well, I'm certain we'll all have to learn new skills here. Not necessarily a bad thing."

"'Adapt to survive' like Darwin said." He smiles. Normally he'd be more discreet about giving out information that could tell something about his possible time period but Origin of Species is one of his favorite theories.

He nonchalantly leans on the basket where he had found the fruit, placing his weight on he elbow. "What about you? If you can't cook can you hunt at least?"

Kelson, having been born in 1106, had absolutely no idea who Darwin was. If he had, well, hard to tell how he would have taken it with his feudal sensibilities. Meanwhile, the king had started grabbing food that looked more edible to his standards. There wasn't really a lot. At all. But he was trying.

He smiled at the question about hunting. Finally. "Oh yes, hunting is a favorite past time of mine." Of course normally he had about 15 others with him and a pack of dogs or falcons. Still, it wasn't that difficult, provided you could find an animal. And a bow.

"Do you hunt?"

Now that's interesting question. Not necessarily unusual, depending on the time period of course but still not something he hears often enough. There is still some of the childish roundness in his face along with rosy cheeks and lips, making him look very young. Someone who's not the most suitable for hunting trips. Unlike this man -- he looks like a person who could take part to fox hunts. Looks can be deceiving, of course. On both accounts.

"I've been to hunting trips with my family," he settles on neutral reply. It's not a lie at least -- the prey he hunts isn't the usual game. "I've fired gun before, too. Can't say I'm much help if we are going to have to hunt our food."

Kelson isn't one to judge someone on their age. He was well aware that circumstance sometimes separates one from childhood, and some are asked to grow up before their time, or that age majority differed between lands. Gwynedd's adult age was fourteen, and Kelson had become King two weeks before his fourteenth birthday. Kings are asked to grow up quickly, others may enjoy their childhood up until eighteen. No. He wasn't one to judge. Edgar might look young, but it was up to his actions to determine how mature he was. Looks were not everything. In some cases, they weren't telling at all. Kelson was already sufficiently impressed that he had knowledge, an intelligence and a drive to learn. Where ever he was from, he was educated.

" Gun?" That was a term he wasn't familiar with, but the word 'fire' seemed to indicate it was some kind of long range weapon. "Like a bow? As for being much help, can you teach some of the basics for food preparation?" As far as Kelson was concerned, everyone pulled their weight. He was going to contribute. Both of them were.

Oh? And here he thought he had played it safe but apparently he was wrong. He didn't exactly think someone wouldn't know what something as general as 'gun' is. They're being used all around the world and almost in every culture there is by now.

"A firearm." Edgar clarifies, looking at him with more curiosity than before. "The idea behind it is same as with a bow. In a way at least. It shoots metal bullets with a sulfur based powder."

His suggestion earns an amused laughter from Edgar. "Hah, I can do that sure. But don't come complaining if the food tastes weird."

Kelson shook his head as Edgar tried to explain to him what a gun was, but there were several words in that sentence he didn't recognize. "I can't say I understand still but if it's similar to a bow that's all I need to know for the moment. If there is an opportunity perhaps you could show me?"

If there were other weapons out there that he wasn't familiar with, he wanted to be. At the very least to be safe, and so he could learn how to circumvent them. Every weapon was vulnerable right? Without a battalion of Haldane Lancers around, Kelson was on his own. He could stop arrows with the right concentration, maybe he could stop bullets too?

He smiled at the other. "Maybe we can work together on that then. Teach me what you're doing and maybe I'll do some taste testing." He was sure someone in his guard or advisors would think that foolish but what choice did he have? Hopefully this person wasn't going to poison him.

"I could if we ever come across one," which, he admittedly wishes. He's never been one depend on such humane things as weapons were they guns, knives or bow and arrow. He had his way to survive without them but meeting the undead monsters in the arena had him nervous. There needed to be a way for them to defend themselves.

"Hah. Don't come tell me I didn't warn you, then." He laughs. "I don't have sense of taste." While he wouldn't go as far as poison the man intentionally it might actually happen in accident.

"It's true, we might never find one. But, if we do, it's best to be prepared." He looked at the other man curiously. "You don't taste?" What an unfortunate problem to be born with. Kelson enjoyed good wine and perfectly good venison, he couldn't imagine not being able to taste, if that was indeed what they meant.

"I suppose we have a choice then. Eating something that doesn't taste like anything, or eating something that potentially tastes horrible."

"Let's hope for the best and fear for the worst, then."

And with that question Edgar's expression changes. The corners of his lips curl up into a grin, revealing a part of his white teeth. His brows presses down which adds cunning gleam into his stare. "I do not. Most of things at least," he answers, voice smooth and soft. "It takes a very delicate and precise flavor to stimulate my taste." And then, he's back to the way he was just a moment ago. A cheerful and friendly smile on his lips and blue eyes blinking as if nothing had happened.

"Well, maybe you could try approach it as a test of bravery?"
