The (Modified) Hearts + TL;DR CR Meme!

The (modified) Hearts Meme + The TL;DR CR Meme

Welcome to another combo meme! This meme is one parts my modified version of the hearts meme, and another part the tl;dr CR meme.

  • Comment with your characters.
  • Others comment with appropriate hearts for how their character feels about yours.
  • If desired, ask for tl;dr CR at the same time/instead of hearts!
  • If asked for tl;dr, respond with however much you'd like to write about the CR between the two characters.
  • Profit!
  • Have fun everyone!

  • As a note, remember that you can change the alt text so that the hearts say different things when you hover your mouse over them. Look for title="" in the code you are copy and pasting, and change the text between the quotation marks to whatever you like!

This meme has been modified from it's original format to add more hearts, so be sure to read the descriptions! Also feel free to suggest more heart categories~

    tl;dr you didn't ask for...

Adam is simultaneously overjoyed that Gansey is back and very upset about it. It didn't feel right for the three of them to be there without Gansey, as his place in their group really can't be filled by anyone else - and his place as Adam's friend can't, either. But on the other hand, Gansey was safer at home. Not safe, of course, but at least he wasn't menaced by monsters and tortured on a daily basis. Plus, Cabeswater told him Gansey as all right, and that helped a lot. So Adam is pretty torn over Gansey's reappearance.

But it's also true that just having Gansey there gives him a little more balance. Their friendship has had its ups and downs, but Gansey is easily one of the most important people in Adam's life. The first real friend he had, and one of the truest. And Adam understands that better now, even though Gansey can still do things that irritate or anger him. It sort of helps that in Hadriel there are a lot bigger things to worry about - it also sort of helps that money is mostly out of the equation, though Gansey's occasional Ganseyness could still cause problems.

Also, as reluctant as Adam is to talk about personal things, Gansey is the person he's most likely to do it with. He's actually barely opened up to any of the friends he's made in Hadriel, and Ronan is a different thing entirely, as is Noah. So it's a comfort to have Gansey there to talk to, even if Adam doesn't actually want to talk very much. Of course, it's also added stress, because Adam desperately wants to keep him safe but knows that might not be possible. So that's fun.

    tl;dr: he loves u gansey

Ronan is, above all else, one of Adam's best friends and one of the people he trusts most in the world. He's also one of the people Adam feels safest around - while he would still maintain that he doesn't need protection, he can't deny that when he's with Ronan he knows on some level that nothing is going to hurt him if it's within Ronan's power to stop it. He's conflicted on whether or not he's comfortable with that, given his own issues with self-sufficiency and independence, plus that fact that, frankly, he's never felt that before. He knows it's not just him - he knows that Ronan will protect any one of them like that - but for Adam, who's never had anyone treat him like he was worth protecting, it means something. He's just not sure what it means.

They've gotten a lot closer since they left Henrietta, and Adam has even let Ronan see some of his vulnerability. He still isn't comfortable with that, though, and probably won't be for awhile, because Adam hates showing that part of himself and there's always a part of him that thinks Ronan will think less of him because of it. He's worked so hard to be able to stand on his own, and the fact that it's still hard for him sometimes is difficult to admit to. But it's even more difficult to ask for help, so, you know. Adam Parrish Problems™.

So Adam's feelings about Ronan are confused, to say the least. It's not helped by the attraction or the budding romance, since Adam knows he's bad at those things and he's still worried about a repeat of what happened with Blue, that Ronan will wake up someday and see Adam the way Adam sees himself, and want nothing more to do with him like that. The idea of that becomes more and more frightening as Adam's feelings for Ronan grow deeper, complicated by the fact that Adam is determined that no matter what happens, he'll keep Ronan's friendship, even if everything else falls to pieces.

But man, he likes Ronan so much. He's known that on some level for awhile, and he was the only thing standing in his way. He needed to figure out himself, to decide that the chance of hurting Ronan, while still there, is dwarfed by the possibility of what they could have. He's finally decided on that, obviously, and he isn't going to change his mind, but he's worried that Ronan will or that Adam's own demons will fuck everything up. He knows he's broken on a pretty basic level, that he grew up not knowing love or how love was supposed to be expressed, not really used to affectionate human touch, and he fakes it all pretty well and he's good at covering it up but he really doesn't know how well that will hold out if they actually start a real relationship. It's not Ronan's job to fix him, he's doing what he can to slowly fix himself, but he doesn't know if it'll be enough.

He really does want to try, though. Slowly, maybe, and carefully, but he wants to. Ronan is a giant asshole, and they'll fight for sure, and Ronan will do things that piss Adam off and Adam will definitely do the same, but he's also loyal and devoted and often kind in his own way, and Adam remembers every time Ronan's touched him and every time he's wanted more, and he's not willing to want that without doing anything about it anymore.

I really want Clear and Adam to thread again! I don't think they have since the yeti, and a lot has happened... Adam isn't sure what to think of Clear, really. He's friendly and simple and open, but the whole yeti thing freaked Adam out. That isn't really Clear's fault, it's just that it touched on some of the trauma Adam hasn't dealt with yet (and there's a lot of that, so no surprise there, really). He knows that, so he's not going to avoid Clear or anything like that, but he'll probably be more wary around him. He doesn't think Clear means him any harm, but he's very aware that Clear could hurt him anyway, and trust is a hard thing to come by for Adam.

I'm interested to see what might happen in the future!

They should definitely talk again. Adam doesn't really know what to make of Sharon, but he kinda feels her pessimism. At least her outlook on life seems pretty similar to his sometimes, even if her way of facing it is a little confusing to him. Also, Ronan probably punched her at least once and Adam owes her an apology for that.

Noah! Adam had gotten used to him being a living breathing boy, and then he died again, and everything went really shitty at about this same time - not Noah's fault, obviously, but it was one more thing that Adam didn't really know how to deal with. He does understand why Noah chose to come back as a ghost instead of a person, but even if he understands, he doesn't agree with it. Obviously he wouldn't, when Adam has always been about surviving and struggling past the difficulties in his life. So he gets why, but he's not happy about it.

He is pretty happy that Noah is back, though. He knows that he's not as important to Noah as Ronan or Gansey is, but Noah is still one of his best friends and one of the few people he trusts. Having him back is a relief, both because he wants Noah to grow and be happy, and because - well, they're all back together now. For awhile Adam was pretty much alone, and that sucked. A lot.

On the other hand, Adam is still just a little wary of Noah. He does trust Noah, but that trust was shaken by him telling Gansey about his death, and in general by the reminder that Noah can rummage through their minds and do whatever he wants with what he finds there. Adam frankly really hates that, because he's such a private person and he wants to be able to make decisions about his feelings on his own terms. This was more ok when he didn't think about it, or when he didn't think Noah would tell, but now he can't be sure of that.

Not that it matters TOO much right now, since Adam is slowly figuring his shit out, but it might take awhile to really build that trust back up. Regardless, he's delighted Noah is back.

    I would like!

Adam has difficulties with people, he's polite but distant, he has no problem talking to them but it's very hard for him to trust anyone or let them close to him. Somehow that has happened naturally with Arya, and he's probably closer to her than he is to anyone else he's met here. There's a lot about her that's familiar, and while he doesn't like seeing that because he knows it means she's been through a lot of shit she didn't deserve, it makes it easier for him to talk to her and relate to her.

He hasn't opened up to her as much as he could - mostly what he's talked about are either general things that reflect the shittiness they've both been through, or the nice things about his world like helicopters. That's on purpose. Adam tends to both downplay his own abuse to himself (telling himself it's not as bad as things that happen to other people, so there's no point talking about it) and to just flinch from talking about it, because it's so personal and he frankly doesn't want to. So while Arya is easily the person he'd be most likely to tell (he hasn't told anyone in Hadriel anything about his life except bare details, yet), he thinks she deserves better than to have to listen to his unpleasant story, when she's been through much worse. Still, on some level Adam is aware that keeping these things a secret is why it's so difficult for people to get close to him. If the subject comes up naturally, or if she asks, he would probably be willing to open up more to her than to anyone else.

Also, the fact that she's able to sometimes convince him to drop everything and do dumb fun things like snowball fights is a gift. Ronan's about the only other one who's good at that, and there hasn't been much opportunity for it recently. Adam desperately needs to have more fun and relax a little more often, and when he's with her he can tell himself that obviously he's doing it because she deserves to have fun and play like a kid, and then they both profit and Adam doesn't feel like he's being immature or ignoring his responsibilities.

I debated for about five minutes before deciding not to give Arya the family heart. Not because she isn't basically the little sister he never had, but because he doesn't consciously think that. Family for Adam has always been painful and fraught, he's never had a family bond that didn't hurt him in some way. Arya has never done that, and Adam doesn't think that she ever would, so it's hard for him to fit her into his own unfortunately unpleasant concept of family. If he's ever able to get to a place where he can think of family without feeling lonely and frightened and tense, he would think of her as a sister, but as it is - she deserves far better than to ever be considered part of the Parrish family, even metaphorically.

Lloyd is such a strange and foreign type of person to Adam. People so easily proposing friendship and being so accepting are a rarity in his life, and at first Adam was pretty wary of it, because of course he'd assume that it was fake somehow. But every interaction with Lloyd has proven that it's not, that Lloyd really just is that nice, and as weird as Adam finds it, he's also growing to like it.

It's really one of those things where he's fully aware that Lloyd is like that with everyone, that Adam is in no way special, but because Adam's never had anyone like that in his life before, it means something to him anyway. He still is hesitant to share anything too personal with Lloyd, but that's not because he thinks Lloyd would react badly, it's only because he thinks Lloyd doesn't deserve to have to deal with that kind of thing. He's just so NICE and should be allowed to remain nice and good and not have to know about Adam Parrish problems and things like child abuse and PTSD.

Adam also appreciates that Lloyd is a badass. He really does not like having people protect him, but he's grown to understand that it's necessary while he's here, sometimes. When you can't fight monsters you've gotta accept help from people who can. So he is somewhat reluctantly willing to accept help from Lloyd on that front, so long as he can repay it with things like making sure his wounds get taken care of and that he has warm clothes and dumb crap like that.

Also, Adam is pretty crappy at making friends, so he deeply appreciates that Lloyd is super good at it. It makes it so much easier! Lloyd is a precious jewel and his dog is cute, ok.

Adam thinks Rainier seems like a decent person. He's generally always going to be more wary around adult men, even subconsciously, but Rainier's done nothing for him to be wary of, which goes a long way towards very slowly making Adam more comfortable. He appreciates that Rainier is willing to teach him things, and even if they're not particularly close on a personal level, Adam does like him. He's still in the 'carefully feel out just how much they can be trusted' stage, but for Adam, that sort of counts for quite a bit anyway.
